Two teams that prefer to run the football, Head Coach Jeff Monken and the Army West Point Black Knights (+11) are set to face off against the No. 21 Navy Midshipmen (-11) at Lincoln Financial Field. This afternoon game is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET and fans can catch the action by tuning in to CBS.

The line for this game is sitting at 11 points in favor of Navy. The Black Knights are currently getting +315 moneyline odds while the Midshipmen are -425. This tilt will probably present some in-game betting possibilities. The over/under has been set at 41.5 points.

The game's total has moved downward after originally being set at 45. The opening line (-11) hasn't shifted.

The Black Knights fell to Hawaii 52-31 in a blowout where the Black Knights completed 5-of-11 passes for 127 yards and two interceptions. Jemel Jones went three-for-4 for 43 yards and one interception while Christian Anderson completed one-of-four for 15 yards. Sandon McCoy (91 rushing yards on 15 attempts, two TDs) and Christian Anderson (114 yards on 12 carries) provided the ground attack while Michael Roberts (two receptions, 11 yards) and Artice Hobbs IV (one catch, 69 yards) manned the receiving duties in the defeat.

Navy is coming off of a 56-41 win over Houston two weeks ago. As a group, the team collectively completed two-of-four passes for 107 yards. Malcolm Perry went two-for-four for 107 yards while Carlinos Acie was -of- for yards. Perry (146 rushing yards on 18 attempts, one TD) handled the running game while Keoni-Kordell Makekau (one receptions, 60 yards) led the pass-catching corps in the win.

Army West Point has run the ball on 85.3 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Navy has a rush percentage of 87.6 percent. The Black Knights have rushed for 312 yards/game and have 44 touchdowns on the ground this year. The Midshipmen are putting up 361 rush yards per contest and have 48 total rushing TDs.

If 2019 numbers are any indication, then it appears the Midshipmen may own an advantage in terms of effectiveness in the ground game, as their running backs has produced 6.0 yards per carry while their defense has allowed 3.4 yards per rush attempt to opponents. The Black Knights have recorded 5.4 yards per carry while allowing a YPC of 4.2 to opponents.

The Black Knights have averaged 87 yards through the air overall and have six passing scores so far. The Midshipmen have recorded 104 pass yards per outing and have eight total pass TDs.

Army West Point seems to hold an edge when it comes to limiting the pass. The team's let opponents run for an average of 144 yards and pass for 194 yards per game. Navy has allowed 109.7 rushing yards per game and 232.6 to opponents in the air. Both teams allow similar adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) to the opposition, as the Black Knights have given up an ANY/A of 6.33 to opposing QBs, while the Midshipmen are allowing an ANY/A of 6.59.

Kelvin Hopkins Jr. has amassed 521 pass yards on the year. He's completed 28-of-68 attempts with four passing touchdowns and four interceptions. Hopkins Jr.'s got a 5.38 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 2.80 over the past two outings.

Kelvin Hopkins Jr. (498 rushing yards, six rush TDs, 0 receiving yards on the year), Christian Anderson (196 rush yards, two rush TDs, 0 receiving yards) and Connor Slomka (573 rush yards, five rush TDs) have each played key roles lately.

In the home locker room, Malcolm Perry has produced 865 yards, five TDs and three INTs. Perry's ANY/A sits at 10.46 for the season and 10.42 over his past two games.

We're expecting the Midshipmen to dictate tempo by feeding the ball-carriers early and often. In addition to Malcolm Perry (zero receiving yards this season), Keoni-Kordell Makekau (142 rush yards, 116 receiving yards) and CJ Williams (233 rush yards, three rush TDs, 177 receiving yards, two TDs) have been key factors in the Navy offense.

When these two schools met a year ago, Army West Point won by a touchdown 17-10.

South Florida Bulls vs Portland Pilots NCAA Basketball Betting Pick & Prediction 11/21/24

Even though it is called the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, the matchup between the Clemson Tigers and the LSU Tigers on Monday January 13 will decide the 2019 college football national champion. Some would say that these are the two best teams in the country. Others would say that Clemson faced the #2 team in the country in its win over Ohio State.

Whatever is being said about this game, know that LSU is anywhere from -5 to -6 as of New Year’s Eve with a total anywhere from 69 to 70. Also know that if this game had been played at the end of the regular season, Clemson could very well have been a favorite. At a minimum, LSU wouldn’t have been higher than -1.

Did the previous two games for each team really swing the balance that much? LSU rolled over Georgia with a dominant performance in the SEC Championship Game and Joe Burrow put on a dazzling show in the first half against Oklahoma that put that game away by the intermission in the first College Football Playoff Semifinal.

Clemson did what it needed to do with a win over Virginia and then got taken to the final minute by Ohio State. Let’s also call it what it is. Ohio State was the better team in that game. The Buckeyes left a ton of points on the field in the first half and also fell victim to what is being considered a terrible replay review ruling on a scoop and score in the second half that would have given Ohio State the lead.

That was the knock on Clemson all season long. Through no fault of their own, Dabo Swinney’s team hadn’t played anybody. Now they have. And they did enough to win. But, they didn’t do enough to impress oddsmakers or bettors. Now we have a growing favorite in LSU that is power-rated as the top team in the country. This line effectively amounts to close to a touchdown difference in perception between the two teams from what we saw at the tail end of the regular season.

Is it warranted? Is it justified? We have a lot of time to decide.

Oklahoma wasn’t the fourth-best team in the country. Any of the top three teams would have likely taken Oklahoma to the woodshed. Maybe not to the degree of LSU, who scored 49 first-half points and 14 more in the second half for good measure in the 63-28 win. It was a highly emotional day with the death of Carley McCord, the daughter-in-law of offensive coordinator Steve Emsinger. The additional layoff means that the LSU family has some time to process the loss and be there for Emsinger.

Emsinger was coaching with an obviously heavy heart, but it didn’t show, as he and Joe Brady called a dynamic game that allowed Burrow to throw for 493 yards on just 29 completions, seven of which went for touchdowns. Fourteen of the completions went to Justin Jefferson and so did four of the touchdowns. Jefferson had 227 yards receiving.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire actually had two carries for 14 yards. With the additional break in between games, LSU should have him back at something resembling full strength and that would go a long way. We saw JK Dobbins slice and dice through the Clemson defense before he suffered an ankle injury. Edwards-Helaire is plenty capable of doing the same thing.

Clemson was outgained 516-417 by Ohio State. The Buckeyes fell on the wrong side of just about everything in that game. They were -2 in turnover margin. They were terrible in the red zone. They were the victims of a targeting call that got Shaun Wade kicked out of the game. Before Wade left the game, Clemson had done nothing on offense. After Wade’s targeting call was confirmed by review, the Clemson offense had far more success.

The Buckeyes bottled up Travis Etienne in the running game, but not in the passing game, as Etienne maximized his three receptions for 98 yards and a couple touchdowns. They also failed to account for Trevor Lawrence as a runner. Lawrence had 107 yards on the ground, including a 67-yard scamper for six.

Was it a performance worthy of knocking Clemson down a few pegs? You could certainly say that. It was easily Clemson’s worst defensive performance of the season and it didn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence with Burrow on the horizon. The Tigers did sack Justin Fields four times, but a knee injury limited his mobility. Most of the sacks came in the second half after defensive mastermind Brent Venables made adjustments.

LSU has been great in its major tests. Clemson has only had one major test and could very well have lost in blowout fashion if the Buckeyes didn’t settle for three first-half field goals in the red zone. Give Clemson credit for making adjustments and making plays. But, it’s fair to wonder if they’ll get the same opportunities against LSU.

Recency bias is a real thing, but remember that Clemson closed -2.5 against Ohio State. Are we really saying that Ohio State would be +8.5 against LSU? Is that a thing?

Now, we also have to factor in that LSU is playing this game in New Orleans, so there will be a ton of purple and gold in attendance. Clemson fans traveled very well out to Arizona. Tickets are going to be much harder to come by in the Big Easy. LSU may be getting as much as 2 or 2.5 points for home field in the minds of some. Does LSU -3 make more sense? Is that a fairer number?

LSU sits second in yards per play on offense and Clemson sits fourth. Even after the performance against Ohio State, Clemson is second in yards per play allowed on defense. LSU is 27th. LSU played the much, much tougher schedule.

I hate to keep asking questions when you came here for answers, but that really is the story of this game. Are the recent performances for the two teams enough to make LSU a favorite of this magnitude? That yes or no question is remarkably complex, but it is the answer to this handicap. If your answer is yes, then you are on the LSU side. If you’re answer is no, then you are on the Clemson side.

Personally, my answer is no. This line is now too high. Georgia’s offense really wasn’t very good. As impressive as that win looks on paper, the Bulldogs couldn’t compete with LSU. Oklahoma sure as hell couldn’t. Clemson stacks up from a talent standpoint. Dabo’s Tigers spent a lot more energy in their win than Coach O’s Tigers did, but that still isn’t enough for me to get to this high of a number on the game.

The Buckeyes had 5.34 yards per play in the second half once Clemson adjusted. Suffice it to say that they were caught off-guard playing a team that athletic and that talented. But, they made adjustments. They confused Justin Fields. They gave him odd-man fronts and got more pressure. Yes, they also got fortunate that JK Dobbins went out and that Master Teague just isn’t good enough to be on Dobbins’s level.

Again, though, this line is just too high as far as I’m concerned. Even if Clemson could have and maybe in some respects should have lost to Ohio State, doubting Dabo isn’t an option now that he is 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS in his bowl and CFP games dating back to 2012.

CFP National Championship Game: Clemson vs. LSU College Football Betting Odds, Pick, & Prediction 1/13/20

It wasn't all that long ago that the Nevada Wolfpack and San Diego State Aztecs we're serious contenders for spots in the Final Four. SDSU is a little below that level right now, while Nevada still has a ways to go. These Mountain West Conference teams will clash on Thursday night at 10 p.m. Eastern at the Viejas Arena in San Diego.

You may remember Alfordas an All-American guard under Bob Knight and Indiana, and then the coach of several programs, including Iowa and UCLA. What he has now is the 28th least experienced team among the 351 Division 1 squads. He did manage to win 19 games with this crew last season. But losses to opponents like Air Force and Grand Canyon indicate but they are not operating on the same level as Thursday night's opposition.

San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher had the unenviable task of taking over for Steve Fisher, who had become something of a legend at the school, this coming after he had won a national title at Michigan. Of course, this is the alma mater of Kawhi Leonard, but perhaps their best team was in uniform last season, as the Aztecs won their first 26 games and were firmly embedded in the top 10.

This year they have yet to hit their stride, losing games to BYU and Colorado State, but they do have victories over UCLA, Arizona State and Saint Mary's.

The Aztecs swept their two games against Nevada last season, and one of those was a rather dominant defensive performance, as they held the Wolf Pack made just six out of 29 from INSIDE the arc in a 68 - 55 win.

This is a team that is very dependent upon 3-point shots, taking 45% of their attempts from downtown. And their accuracy absolutely justifies it; at 38.4%, there are among the top 30 in the nation. Jordan Schakel, a 6 - 6 junior, is hitting 45.5% from long range, while mighty mite guard Terrell Gomez is 43.6% accurate.

San Diego State will absolutely work the ball around for a good shot, and more often than not they will get one. This is a patient', experienced team oh, so much so that only seven teams in the nation have a greater aggregate of experience.. And generally they are pretty good at driving their opponents outside to take shots; Nevada is not a particularly good team shooting from either inside or outside the three-point line. And while San Diego State prides itself on creating turnovers (almost 24% of all possessions), Nevada is only 215th in the nation in turnover percentage on offense. This may not trigger a transition game, but it will eventually cause some quality shots on the part of the Aztecs.

Because of their ability to hit those triples, we're going to give SDSU a lot of weight in our analysis, as it at least gives them the ability to extend margins. So we are going to lay the points with the double-digit favorite here.
