Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs Marshall Thundering Herd Betting Pick & Prediction 2/3/24

Playoff series are all about adjustments. The Denver Nuggets made theirs. Now the Portland Trail Blazers need to make one of their own. The series between the #4 and #5 seeds in the Western Conference is tied 1-1 heading to the Moda Center in Oregon. It will be a huge game for both teams, as it could very well dictate and decide the rest of the series.

Portland is the favorite of -4 with a total of 227.5 according to <strong><a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/bookmaker/">Bookmaker Sportsbook</a></strong>, which leaves bettors with a big decision to make. Denver was -1 in Game 1 and -2 in Game 2, but is now a pretty clear-cut underdog in Game 3. The total has also been elevated after both games in this series went over the total in Denver.
<h2><strong><u>Denver Nuggets</u></strong></h2>
It wasn’t just the adjustment on Damian Lillard that the Nuggets made in Game 2 that was the difference. The Denver offense also had a much better performance. That’s not to say that Denver was bad in Game 1. Far from it. The Nuggets shot 50.5% from the floor overall, but were only 11-of-36 on threes and just 4-of-8 at the free throw line.

Denver was 12-of-28 from three in Game 2, but went to the line 30 times and made 24 of those attempts. They were 53.5% from the floor overall and had 29 assists on the 46 made field goals. After being held to one assist in Game 1, Nikola Jokic had five dimes in Game 2. The Nuggets really attacked the basket effectively and were able to get lots of buckets close to the rim and lots of free throw attempts.

It was actually a foul-heavy game on Monday night. Fifty-two fouls were called and 58 free throw attempts were taken. Compare that with Game 1 when 32 fouls were called and Portland had 19 free throw attempts to just eight for the Nuggets. It’s hard to play like that when something that wasn’t a foul in Game 1 is a foul in Game 2.

Jokic has scored 72 points over the first two games of this series. In Game 1, it was Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon that supplied the secondary scoring with 25 and 16 points, respectively. In Game 2, Jokic led five scorers in double figures, as the Nuggets were able to empty the bench late with the big lead. Jokic was 15-of-20 from the floor in that game.

The big free throw disparity was a huge part of Game 1, as the Nuggets were outscored by 14 points at the line. In Game 2, both teams were able equal, but Denver was more efficient from deep and also smarter with shot selection.
<h2><strong><u>Portland Trail Blazers</u></strong></h2>
Game 2 looked like it was going to be another Damian Lillard Show. After scoring 34 points in Game 1, Lillard scored 32 points in the first half of Game 2. He buried eight three-pointers over the first two quarters. However, Portland still trailed by 12 going into the break. It’s a wonder that the Blazers scored at all in the second half.

Portland put 6-foot-9 Aaron Gordon on Lillard and he shut down the Blazers star. Lillard only had 10 points in the second half and only made one three-pointer. He wound up with 42 points for the game, but he was visibly frustrated and flustered with the lack of help and with what Gordon’s length did to him. Now we wait to see if the Blazers figure out a way to get Lillard away from Gordon.

With the 12-point deficit and no real comeback mounted by the Blazers, they probably kept some things under wraps for getting Lillard open. They’ve had three days to sit on those adjustments and work through them. One adjustment could be more production from the rest of the team. CJ McCollum and Norman Powell were the only others in double figures for the Blazers in Game 2.

In Game 1, there were seven players in double figures, led by Lillard’s 34 points. The Blazers are 35-of-73 from three-point range in the series, but only secured a split. Can they keep shooting the lights out and take control of the series in Game 3?
<h2><strong><u>Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Free Pick</u></strong></h2>
Doesn’t 4.5 seem like too big of a number here? The Blazers had that big free throw edge that dictated the outcome of Game 1. Without it, Denver controlled Game 2 and that was even with a huge first half from Lillard that was all for naught. The Nuggets got their bad shooting performance from three out of the way in Game 1.

You could look at this another way and say that Jokic and Lillard cancel each other out. Which supporting cast do you trust more? For me, right now, that’s Denver’s.

Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Game 3 Free Pick - 05/27/21

<p>The over/under line for Tuesday's Pirates vs. Rangers interleague matchup is currently at 8 runs, with the under paying out at -112 compared to -108 for the over. Texas went into the matchup as -158 favorites and squeaked out a 4-3 win. The Rangers offense only had two more hits than the Pirates and struck out 11 times.</p>

<p>Pittsburgh had a three-run 4th inning but didn't score another run in the game. As for the Rangers, they scored one run in the 1st inning and didn't score another run until putting up three in the 3rd. Heading into the game, the Rangers had the 2nd worst offense in the league in terms of runs scored.</p>

<p>Dane Dunning got the start for the Rangers, going just four innings while giving up three runs and striking out four. Jose Urena got the win out of the bullpen, and Kirby Yates got the save. Luis L. Ortiz only went six innings for the Pirates, giving up four runs on five hits.</p><h3>Pirates Records & Stats</h3><p>Pittsburgh is 58-66 overall and 14 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central. The Pirates are also 5th in the division, trailing the Cubs by 2.5 games for the 4th spot in the division. The Pirates have dropped two straight games, and they are just 2-8 over their last 10 games.</p>

<p>At home, the Pirates are 29-32 this season, and they are 29-34 on the road. As the underdog, Pittsburgh is 33-45 this year, and they are 25-21 when favored. Edmonton Oilers vs St. Louis Blues Betting Pick & Prediction 2/15/24

The narrative will be that Jake Allen was the cure to what ailed the St. Louis Blues. Allen is 2-0 in the series against the Vancouver Canucks and has stopped 61 of 64 shots. The real story is that the Blues opened it up offensively in Game 3 and then got the penalty kill working in Game 4.

In that respect, you could say that Allen, who stopped all seven power play shots from the Canucks in Game 4, stepped up when the Blues needed him the most. Whatever the reason, the Blues have drawn even at two games apiece in this best-of-seven series with the Canucks and the all-important Game 5 is on Wednesday night. St. Louis is listed as a -145 favorite at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betdsi"><strong>DSI Sportsbook</strong></a> to pick up the swing game and put the Canucks on the brink of elimination.

The Blues allowed six power play goals over the first three games of this series. They allowed zero in Game 4. It marked the first game that the Blues power play outscored the power play for the Canucks. The Blues just shut it down defensively across the board. In fact, it was a pretty slow game without a whole lot of offensive chances for either side. In other words, the exact kind of game that the Blues would like to play.

There were only 21 total scoring chances at 5-v-5 in Game 4. There were 70(!!) in Game 3. The Blues had 49 of those. Jacob Markstrom was outstanding in that game, as the Blues fired 48 shots at 5-v-5 and scored on only three of them, including Brayden Schenn’s overtime game winner.

In Game 4, the Blues scored two power play goals, including a 5-v-3 tally just before Zack MacEwen’s roughing penalty expired. That insurance marker loomed large, as the Blues really shut it down in the third period. Whether or not Allen’s insertion into the lineup has led to a change in St. Louis’s play remains to be seen, but they sure do look a lot more like the team that won the Cup last season than whatever they looked like through the Round Robin and the first two games of this series.

Markstrom has given his team a great chance in this series with 143 stops on 154 shots. He was coming in off of a career year and a pretty strong effort against the Minnesota Wild in the first round. The forwards need to help him out some more, though. They need to find a way to generate some sustained attack zone time.

The Blues may have figured out the blueprint. They allowed 41 shots in Game 3, but held the Blues to just 23 shots in Game 4. Elias Pettersson went from six shots in Game 3 to two shots in Game 4. Bo Horvat has been quiet since his Game 2 game-winning goal in overtime. The Canucks even had three third period power plays in Game 4 and couldn’t do anything with them.

Now the last change reverts back to St. Louis, who squandered that in Games 1 and 2. In theory, it means that they should be able to match up even better with Vancouver’s top six forwards, especially now that they have gotten their legs under them in the series.

The big story is Vancouver’s lack of offense and that has been the focus of this Game 5 preview, but it is also worth noting that five of St. Louis’s six even strength goals have been scored right in front of the net. The Canucks need to figure out a way to keep St. Louis to the outside in the defensive zone. If their offensive chances are going to be limited, then they’ll need to find a way to do the same to the Blues.

It sure seems like the balance of power in this series has swung wildly in favor of St. Louis. They’ve figured out how to lock it down and Allen is playing with a much higher confidence level than Binnington.

The total of 5.5 would appear to be too high here, so the under at -135 looks like a good play. Even with all the chances in Game 3, that game stayed under and there was minimal offense in Game 4. The Blues are back to playing the game that they want and their physical nature is starting to slow Vancouver down a bit.

To me, this game is about whether or not you’d rather lay the slightly higher juice with the Blues or take the under. Vladimir Tarasenko left the bubble to tend to his shoulder injury, so St. Louis is down a big offensive piece and a major threat. With that in mind, it’ll be the under for me.
