The Connecticut Sun barely outlasted the Washington Mystics 90-86 on Tuesday night to force Game 5 in <a href="http://bangthebook.com/wnba-playoffs-preview-predictions-and-betting-odds/">the 2019 WNBA Finals</a>. Now, the series heads to Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., where we’ll see the decisive clash between these two teams Thursday night. With both Connecticut and Washington searching for their first-ever WNBA Championship, we expect to see a tremendous battle.

<strong>Injuries/Suspensions</strong>

Both Connecticut and Washington are coming in full strength.

<strong>The Line</strong>

The Mystics opened as 7-point home favorites with the total at 175.0 points and the Sun at +250 money line odds. The Mystics are 8-4 SU and 7-5 ATS in their last 12 outings at home as favorites of seven or fewer points, while the Sun is 5-7 SU and ATS in its previous 12 showings on the road as a dog of seven or fewer points.

<strong>What's at Stake?</strong>

As I’ve already mentioned, both teams are searching for their first WNBA title, so this is the biggest game for each of these two franchises.

<strong>The Spot</strong>

Connecticut is coming off a huge home win, playing with its back against the wall. It should be a huge boost to the Sun’s confidence. However, the Mystics thrashed off the Sun in two of their previous three encounters at Entertainment and Sports Arena.

<strong>The Matchup</strong>

The Sun went off to a fast start in Game 4, taking a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter. They allowed the Mystics to make a comeback in the third quarter, but the Sun put on a strong performance down the stretch to seal the victory.

Connecticut made 42.9% of its field goals on Tuesday night, while Washington shot 47.1% from the field. However, the Sun outrebounded the Mystics (39-29) while making 24 assists and only eight turnovers. Likewise, the Sun earned 22 fouls and shot 23-for-26 from the charity stripe.

The key player for the Sun is Jonquel Jones. She was terrible in two losses in this series. On the other hand, she was exceptional in two Sun’s victories. After posting 32 points and 18 rebounds in Game 2, Jones led the way for the Sun in Game 4 with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Alyssa Thomas is also doing a great job, playing 40 minutes in each game of the Finals. She had 17 points and 11 assists in Game 4.

On the other side, Elena Delle Donne is playing through pain in her back. She tallied 11 points and five boards in Game 4, spending 30 minutes on the floor. Kristi Toliver had a bad game Tuesday night, scoring just seven points along with five assists. Toliver is averaging 13.8 points and 5.4 dimes per game this postseason.

Once again, the Sun will try to slow down the Mystics’ offense that is scoring 91.4 points per contest in the postseason. Although their offense is so lethal, the Mystics are surrendering 90.5 points in a return. Washington will have to defend Jonquel Jones well and do a much better job on the glass.

<strong>The Bets</strong>

The Mystics should take advantage of their home court and beat the Sun. I think they are a better team than Connecticut, especially on the offensive end, but covering a 7-point spread could be a tricky job. This is a winner-takes-all battle and seven points seem like a high line.

Therefore, I would stick with the totals once again in this series. All previous four games went in the over, and I think we’ll see another high-scoring affair. The over is 9-3 in Connecticut’s previous 12 games overall, and it is 8-1 in Washington’s last nine contests overall.

The Mystics fully deserved their win, having a comfortable lead for the almost entire game. Now, the Mystics will look to extend their lead in this series, hosting the Sun in Game 2 on Tuesday night.

Washington is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its last ten outings at home as a fave of eight or fewer points, while Connecticut is 3-3 SU and ATS in six showings on the road this season as a dog of eight or fewer points.

This is a huge game for both teams. The Mystics will be one step away from the championship if they win Game 2, while the Sun will be in dire straits with an eventual loss.

<strong>The Spot</strong>

While Connecticut finished the job in the semifinals in three games, Washington had to play Game 4 at Las Vegas. However, the fatigue is not a factor, and the Mystics look keen to defend the home court. Washington is on a 13-game winning streak in front of the home audience.

<strong>The Matchup</strong>

As we expected, Elena Delle Donne led the Mystics in Game 1, tallying 22 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists while making eight of her 13 field-goal attempts. Kristi Toliver added 18 points and five dimes, but an X-factor was Ariel Atkins who dropped 21 points on Connecticut, missing just one shot in 24 minutes on the floor.

Atkins is averaging 10.3 points per game on 41.6% shooting from the field this season. In four semifinal games against the Aces, she scored 18 points in the total. Still, she was unstoppable in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals and will try to continue with a strong performance.

The Mystics were on fire on Sunday, making 54.0% of their field goals including ten triples out of 21 attempts from deep. Likewise, the Mystics shot 63.6% from the field in the first half. On the other side, the Sun shot well, too, hitting 48.5% of their field goals and 39.1% of their 3-pointers. However, it wasn’t enough for the red-hot Mystics. If they want to win Game 2, the Sun will have to find the way to slow down the Mystics’ offense. When you play the most efficient team in the league who’s averaging 89.3 points per game, you cannot rely on your offense to beat them.

Courtney Williams scored 26 points in Game 1, while Alyssa Thomas added 20 on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Alyssa also had six boards, six assists, and five steals. Jonquel Thomas, on the other hand, had a bad day in the office. She scored just seven points on 3-of-14 shooting, while she’s leading the Sun this season with 14.6 points per game.

Connecticut is scoring 80.8 points per contest (4<sup>th</sup> in the league), allowing 77.9 points in a return (7<sup>th</sup>). On the other side, the Mystics are surrendering 77.3 points per game (4<sup>th</sup>).

<strong>The Bets</strong>

Although the Sun defeated the Mystics twice at home this season, they lost 102-59 at Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington back in June. The Mystics are terrific on the home court, and I think they will record the 14<sup>th</sup> straight victory in front of the home fans. Still, I would take the Mystics at the alternative 6-points spread at slightly lower odds.

When it comes to the totals, the under is 4-1 in the previous five encounters between Connecticut and Washington. However, I don’t think the Sun will manage to slow down the Mystics, so I expect to see another high-scoring affair. The line is a tricky one at 169.5 points, and I would stick with the spread and take the Mystics to cover instead of betting on the totals.

The Washington Mystics put on a strong performance in Game 3 of <a href="http://bangthebook.com/wnba-playoffs-preview-predictions-and-betting-odds/">the 2019 WNBA Finals</a> to take a 2-1 lead in the series. They easily defeated the Connecticut Sun 94-81 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville and will try to finish the job Tuesday night in Game 4 on the road. The Mystics bounced back from a 99-87 loss in Game 2 on the home court, showing once again that their offense is unstoppable. However, the Sun won’t go away easily and will try their best to force Game 5 in Washington.

<strong>The Line</strong>

Despite a tough loss in Game 3 at home, Connecticut opened as a 1-point fave with the total at 172.5 points and the Mystics at -105 money line odds. The Mystics were listed as 2.5-point underdogs in the previous clash.

<strong>What's at Stake?</strong>

Both the Mystics and Sun are playing for their first-ever WNBA Championship. Connecticut is in the Finals for the first time since 2005, while Washington lost to Seattle in the 2018 WNBA Finals.

<strong>The Spot</strong>

The hosts are playing with their backs against the wall. After pulling off an upset in Game 2 on the road, they suffered a tough loss in Game 3 at home which certainly damaged their confidence. On the other side, the Mystics cannot be at the better place, especially with Elena Delle Done back on the floor.

<strong>The Matchup</strong>

Elena Delle Donne is a key player for the Mystics and arguably the best player in the league. She played just two minutes in Game 2 and the Mystics looked lost without her. Elena returned in Game 3 to account for 13 points and six boards in 26 minutes on the floor. What’s more important, the Mystics were confident on both sides of the ball with their best player in the game.

The Mystics hit whopping 16 triples out of 27 attempts from deep while making 50.7% of their field goals. After losing the battle on the glass in Game 2, the Mystics outrebounded the Sun 34-27 on Sunday. On the other side, Connecticut made just five of its 20 attempts from beyond the arc and couldn’t find a way to slow down the Mystics’ offense.

Jonquel Jones had another poor game for the Sun. After posting 32 points and 18 rebounds in Game 2, Jones had only nine points and nine boards in Game 3. Alyssa Thomas tallied 13 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists, while Jasmine Thomas and Shekinna Stricklen both added 16 points each. Kristi Toliver led the way for the Mystics with 20 points and 10 assists, while Emma Meesseman added 21 points off the bench.

Although Connecticut is allowing 79.2 points per game this postseason, the Sun just cannot deal with the Mystics’ offense. Washington is scoring 92.1 points per game in the playoffs while making 47.6% of its field goals.

<strong>The Bets</strong>

I think the Mystics will finish the job in four games. Although Delle Donne is playing through pain, that herniated disk allows her to play, and her presence is invaluable for the Mystics. Connecticut is struggling defensively in this series, so I’m backing the Mystics to win.

When it comes to the totals, I expect to see another high-scoring affair. The Mystics’ defense is fragile, too, as they are surrendering 90.6 points per contest this postseason. The Sun should shoot the ball well at home, so I’m backing the over.

All previous three games in this series went in the over, as well as eight of the Sun’s previous 11 games overall. Likewise, the over is 7-1 in the Mystics’ previous eight outings. Washington is 8-4 SU and 5-7 ATS in its last 12 games on the road, while Connecticut 12-2 SU and 8-6 ATS in its previous 14 games at home.

Elena has a herniated disk in her back and will have treatment in order to get ready for Game 3. On the other side, the hosts are coming in full strength.

Connecticut opened as a 2-point fave with the total at 175.0 points and Washington at +110 money line odds. The bookies believe that Delle Donne will be limited even if she takes the floor on Sunday. The Mystics will be road dogs for the first time since a 95-72 win in Las Vegas on June 20, 2019.

<strong>What's at Stake?</strong>

There’s so much on the table for both Washington and Connecticut. Whoever wins this clash will be one step away from the WNBA championship.

<strong>The Spot</strong>

Connecticut is arguably at the better spot than Washington. The hosts are coming off a surprising victory in Game 2, while the Mystics have to recuperate after Delle Donne’s injury and put on a fight.

<strong>The Matchup</strong>

In the WNBA Finals, Washington has outscored Connecticut by 12 points with Delle Donne on the court. However, their inside game fell apart in Game 2, and Connecticut topped them 99-87. The Sun outrebounded the Mystics 41-27, posting 17 offensive rebounds. Likewise, the Sun shot 50.0% from the field and dominated the Mystics down the stretch.

After a poor performance in the opener, Jonquel Jones stepped up in Game 2, accounting for 32 points and 18 rebounds. She was completely unstoppable, also adding three blocks to her stats. Alyssa Thomas logged for 40 minutes, tallying 21 points, 12 boards, and six assists while doing an excellent job on the defensive end.

On the other side, Emma Meesseman led the Mystics, scoring 23 points off the bench. Kristi Toliver had 13 points and seven dimes, but she made just six of her 20 field-goal attempts. Tianna Hawkins had a solid role off the bench, posting 16 points and six rebounds while shooting 6-of-8 from the field.

The Mystics desperately need Elena Delle Done back on the court. She’s averaging 19.5 points and 8.3 rebounds this season, shooting 51.5% from the field and 43.0% from beyond the arc. Also, the Mystics will have to do a much better job on the glass, while their defense will need to bounce back from a poor display in Game 2. Delle Donne guarded Jonquel Jones in the opener, and Jones didn’t have a single offensive rebound while scoring 12 points.

<strong>The Bets</strong>

The good thing for the Mystics is a long stretch between Game 2 and 3, so Delle Donne will have five days to recover and get ready for the action. We’ll have another update Saturday morning, and the bookies could adjust the odds regarding Delle Donne’s situation. Howsoever, I expect to see a tight clash that will be decided by a few possessions down the stretch.

Therefore, I’m going with the totals in this one, avoiding the side bet. The Mystics are the most efficient team in the WNBA. They are able to put some serious numbers on the scoreboard even if they play without Delle Donne. On the other side, their defense looks fragile, and Connecticut knows how to take advantage of it, so I’m backing the over.

The Mystics are 4-7 SU and 5-6 ATS in their last 11 road games when listed as underdogs, while the Sun is 5-1 SU and ATS in its last six outings at home as favorites. The over is 7-3 in Connecticut’s last ten games overall, and it is 6-1 in Washington’s previous seven contests overall.

The win for Israel Adesanya over Paulo Costa wrapped up the highly anticipated UFC 253 card. We’ll wait a few weeks for another pay-per-view, but we don’t have long to wait for the next UFC card. UFC on ESPN 16 comes to you on October 3 from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and features a main event of Holly Holm against Irene Aldana.

There have been tons of changes to this card for a variety of reasons, but as we look on Wednesday, there are 11 fights scheduled for the card, with the final five on ESPN. The entire card can be seen on ESPN+. It will start at 7:30 p.m. ET, which is in the early morning hours in the United Arab Emirates.

We’ll take a look through the fight card with odds from <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>BetOnline Sportsbook</strong></a> as we survey the 11 fights and spend a little more time and attention on the main card.

<strong>Luigi Vendramini</strong> and <strong>Jessin Ayari</strong> get us started at 155 pounds in the lightweight division. Ayari has been bet into the -118 favorite after opening an underdog in the bout. The over 2.5 is juiced to -155, as all three of Ayari’s UFC fights have gone the full 15. Vendramini was knocked out in his UFC debut by Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, but that fight came over two years ago. He was 8-0 with eight stoppage wins to that point. The longer this fight goes, the more it favors Ayari, who has more experience going three rounds. The over juice implies that this fight will go to the cards and that should help Ayari.

Bantamweights <strong>Casey Kenney</strong> and <strong>Alateng Heili</strong> are next up at 135 pounds. Kenney bounced back from his second career loss at the hands of Merab Dvalishvili to get Louis Smolka to tap out back on May 30. Heili is 2-0 in the UFC, but the 28-year-old from China has not fought since last December. Kenney is a big -305 favorite and looks like a parlay piece as he should win and we can cut into the juice with someone else on the ticket.

The first of three women’s fights on the card features <strong>Loma Lookboonmee</strong> at -140 against <strong>Jinh Yu Frey</strong>. The 35-year-old Frey is just 9-5 in her career and she lost her UFC debut back in June to Kay Hansen. It was also the debut for the 21-year-old Hansen. Frey was an Invicta champion before getting her chance with the UFC. Lookboonmee is 1-1 in her UFC career and the 24-year-old is fighting for just the seventh time in her career. We just saw Frey lose to a younger, faster fighter, which is probably why we get a -140 price when that seems a tad high.

Three-time Dana White Contender Series contestant <strong>Jordan Williams</strong> finally gets his shot on a full-fledged UFC card. He is the -142 favorite at 185 pounds against <strong>Nassourdine Imavov</strong>. Imavov is making his UFC debut after posting an 8-2 record with seven stoppage wins in smaller promotions. Williams at least has Bellator and DWTNCS experience. Williams just fought on September 15 and will be right back in the Octagon here. Not much is known about these two fighters, but Williams did just recently fight and Imavov has not fought since December. I’d give Williams the nod on that alone.

The fourth UFC fight for <strong>Charles Jourdain</strong> might be the one to get him back to .500 in the UFC. Jourdain knocked down Andre Fili in the first round of his last fight back on June, but he lost via split decision. Now he is a -454 favorite in one of the most lopsided lines of the night against <strong>Joshua Culibao</strong>. The 26-year-old Culibao was 8-0 before Jalin Turner beat him up back in February. Turner landed 90 strikes to Culibao’s 12 and spent able time with control. That performance is why Culibao is a huge underdog here and deservedly so.

Maybe it’s time for <strong>Carlos Condit</strong> to hang ‘em up. Condit is in the main event of the prelims against <strong>Court McGee</strong> as he looks to end a five-fight losing streak. Condit has lost eight of his last 10 fights dating back to 2012. McGee is a step down in class in some respects to who Condit has fought, but he also hasn’t fought since December 2018 and the 36-year-old isn’t getting any younger. McGee has been bet into the -136 favorite, even though the 35-year-old has lost four of his last five against weaker competition. Neither one of these fighters is worth your money here.

<h3><strong>Dequan Townsend (+260) vs. Dusko Todorovic (-310); Total: 1.5 (-200/160)</strong></h3>
Undefeated Dusko Todorovic did enough to impress Dana White last August against Teddy Ash on the Dana White Contender Series to get an opportunity on a full-fledged UFC card. That opportunity is here, as the 26-year-old Serbian gets into the cage as a big favorite against Dequan Townsend. Townsend has lost three straight fights, including one on very short rest against Devin Clark in February, less than a month after losing to Bevon Lewis.

Townsend should be in a better spot here, but he hasn’t shown anything at the UFC level that would suggest that he’s here to stay. The 34-year-old is a big underdog despite more UFC experience and a size advantage. It seems like Todorovic is set up for an easy first win and a better opponent down the line.
<h3><strong>Pick: Dusko Todorovic</strong></h3>
<h3><strong>Cameron Else (+375) vs. Kyler Phillips (-475); Total: 1.5 (-130/100)</strong></h3>
This looks like another uncompetitive fight. Kyler Phillips is nearly a $5 favorite against Cameron Else. Phillips was supposed to get a good test from Danaa Batgerel, but Batgerel cannot complete the travel to Abu Dhabi. Else, who has won six fights in a row and did make a cameo appearance on a Bellator card in 2016, isn’t being given much of a chance here.

Phillips is hardly invincible with a loss to his name and a full 15 with Gabriel Silva on his first UFC fight card. I’m not saying I’d take the +375, but I certainly wouldn’t lay the -475.
<h3><strong>Pick: Kyler Phillips</strong></h3>
<h3><strong>Julianna Pena (+119) vs. Germaine de Randamie (-139); Total: 2.5 (-205/165)</strong></h3>
Since joing the UFC, Julianna Pena has one loss. It came against Valentina Shevchenko and there is absolutely no shame in losing to her. If we are to believe the odds and the line movement here, this will be her second loss. Pena has only fought once since that Shevchenko loss in January 2017, so you can understand why the markets are skeptical. She beat Nicco Montano on July 13, 2019, but that was her last fight.

Germaine de Randamie went 25 minutes with Amanda Nunes back in December. That loss snapped a nice little run for her that included wins over Holly Holm, Raquel Pennington, and Aspen Ladd. Going 25 with Nunes is an accomplishment in and of itself, even though Nunes was a clear-cut winner in that fight. I hate to be chalky here, but between the line move and the lack of reps for Pena, you have to agree with what the wisdom of crowds is saying about this fight.
<h3><strong>Pick: Germaine de Randamie</strong></h3>
<h3><strong>Carlos Felipe (+215) vs. Yorgan de Castro (-255); Total: 1.5 (-115/-115)</strong></h3>
This is a big spot on the big stage for Carlos Felipe. Felipe was unblemished at 8-0 before he came up short against Sergei Spivac back in July in his UFC debut. It was a big step up in class for the 25-year-old and he’s sure to have learned from that majority decision loss. Spivac was far more active and landed nearly four times the strikes that Felipe did. We should see a much more active heavyweight in this one.

Unfortunately for Felipe, de Castro will likely be more active coming off of his first career loss at the hands of Greg Hardy. De Castro was 6-0 and 2-0 under Dana White’s watchful eyes before that loss at UFC 249. de Castro only landed 24 strikes in what was a pretty boring fight overall. This could be a boring heavyweight fight, too, if these guys don’t make some adjustments. The over 1.5 is actually my pick here with two guys that don’t seem to throw a lot of shots.
<h3><strong>Pick: Over 1.5</strong></h3>
<h3><strong>Irene Aldana (-102) vs. Holly Holm (-118); Total: 4.5 (-240/190)</strong></h3>
Irene Aldana had a battle with COVID-19 back in July that pushed this fight back until the first weekend of October. It will be the headliner on Saturday night and Holly Holm is a small favorite in the fight. Holm is just 3-5 in her last five fights, but her losses have been to Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, Germaine de Randamie, Valentina Shevchenko, and Miesha Tate, who are some of the best that women’s MMA has ever had to offer.

Is Aldana in that group? Save for her loss against Tonya Evinger, this is the most accomplished fighter that Aldana has faced in her career and Evinger never had the UFC success that Holm had. In fact, Evinger went 0-3 in the UFC. Still, Aldana is the younger and faster fighter. Holm, who has eight career knockouts, only has two since the start of 2015. With this one likely to go to the cards, you look at who will be more active and put on the better show. To me, that looks like Aldana.
