As has been the case all year, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin are up among the favorites. Martin Truex Jr. still has his reputation on 1.5-mile tracks and it shows here in the odds. This feels like a pretty optimistic price for Chase Elliott, whose only win since the second race Charlotte right after the restart came on the Daytona road course, but it speaks to his talent level and success on the bigger ovals.
<h4><strong><u>The Playoff Picture</u></strong></h4>
Bonus points are once again applied for the drivers that are still alive in the playoffs. That means that Kevin Harvick leads the way with 3,067. All points were reset to 3,000 after the race at Bristol and then bonus points were applied. Harvick leads by 19 over Denny Hamlin, who is then followed by Brad Keselowski with 3,035. Keselowski won at Richmond in the Round of 16 to add some more bonus points.

Joey Logano has 3,022 and Chase Elliott has 3,021 to round out the top five. Martin Truex Jr. is next with 16 bonus points. Then things get really interesting. Alex Bowman has 3,009 points. Austin Dillon and Aric Almirola each have five bonus points. Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer each have four bonus points. Kurt Busch has some ground to make up with one bonus point.

Harvick, Hamlin, Keselowski, Logano, Elliott, and likely Truex are all safe to advance, barring a complete disaster in two or more of these three races. The other drivers are fighting for two spots with those six highly likely to advance.
<h4><strong><u>Las Vegas</u></strong><strong><u> Motor Speedway</u></strong></h4>
All the way back on February 23 B.C. (before COVID), the drivers were at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the second race of the season. Times were certainly simpler back then, weren’t they? This is a standard 1.5-mile tri-oval superspeedway track with turns ranging from 12 to 20 degrees of banking.

This is only the third year for LVMS with two races. They took the playoff race that previously belonged to Loudon, New Hampshire. This is a Sunday evening race. Last year’s race was the first night race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and it was a quick one, as Martin Truex Jr. won in a neat and tidy 2:48:34. Joey Logano’s spring win came in at 2:35:11. The racing is usually pretty crisp and clean on this track.

<h4><strong><u>Lady Luck</u></strong></h4>
You have to be good, but you have to be lucky sometimes, too. Racing began in 1998 at LVMS. There are only seven active drivers with wins. Jimmie Johnson leads the field with four, but he hasn’t won here since 2010. Matt Kenseth and Brad Keselowski each have three, but, again, Kenseth’s last win was 2013. Keselowski won the first playoff race at LVMS back in 2018.

Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick, and Joey Logano all have two wins apiece. Logano’s have been in the last two winter races. Truex is the reigning champ of this race. Harvick’s most recent win was the March race in 2018.

Basically, if you are looking for an upset winner from down the board, this probably isn’t the week for that.
<h4><strong><u>Picks</u></strong></h4>
Brad Keselowski gets the nod this week for me at +750. He’s got a top-five finish in half of his Las Vegas starts and the second-highest average finish of anybody with at least 10 races on the track. Only Logano is higher with his 14 starts and two wins.

I’ll also be looking at Ryan Blaney this week. Blaney is +1000. He’s got nothing to lose now that’s he out of the playoffs. It’s all about wins and he gets back to a 1.5-mile track for the first time in a while. He’s run well on those this season, including two third-place finishes at Charlotte and the most laps led and two stage wins at Texas over the summer.

The reality is that one of the top drivers likely wins. Harvick led the most laps back in February before finishing seventh. Elliott won the first two stages before finishing 26th. I’ll take a couple of Ford shots and look at matchups as we head into the weekend.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>THE GREENBRIER PREVIEW</strong></span>

Welcome back! Remember when the season “ended” 3 weeks ago? Well… It is back! This week players head to The Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier. The new schedule has pushed this long time event into what is called the “Swing Season,” which basically encompasses every event from here until the normal start of the season in January. While for the most part the big names will take these events off, I love them as they feature a bunch of guys who just gained their card through the Korn Ferry Qualifying. For handicapping purposes, The Greenbrier provides some nice historical data as this has been a mainstay on tour for quite some time. Before we breakdown Old White, lets recap the Tour Championship

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP</strong></span>

The end of the 2018/29 season has been more than amazing for readers as Rory McIlroy closes his starting stroke gap to cash his 8/1 Outright recommendation, making 3 straight winners for the article. His season was spectacular and without Brooks going absolutely crazy in Majors, Rory would have been a shoe in for Player of the Year honors. I thoroughly enjoyed the new format for the Tour Championship as it paired the players who have been most successful this season together, all fighting for that $15 million prize. Now all the points are reset and the next think you know you will be reading a Masters Preview article.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>COURSE PREVIEW</strong></span>

Old White TPC has some pretty interesting immediate history. In 2016 Old White and 3 other courses were flooded with water covering up to 6 feet in depth. This obviously resulted in the canceling of that rendition of the event, but it also led to a remodel of the course which needed complete reseeding. The resulting course didn’t change much in terms of playability tee to green but the contours on and around the greens are different substantially changed. Players this week will see a classic, tree lined design where any type of player can win.

The course is set at a resort (you will see falconry commercials this week, bet it!) within a National Park “high” up in the Appalachian Mountains, 2000 feet above sea level. This provides a nice advantage for the shorter hitters who can add 10-15 yards onto their drives. The fairways here are wide and the greens are large so this typically turns into a putting contest, making it rather difficult to handicap.

It has been some time since we have seen most of the guys making up this field. Many of them were toiling on the Korn Ferry Tour trying to secure their card, or hanging out at their local country club after being cut early from the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The course lends itself to a multitude of skill sets being successful with its wide fairways and large greens and the fact that form stats are rather old at this point means there is a certain grasping at straws effect when it comes to a statistical analysis this week. Strokes Gained Approach will of course be a staple of my model but I may put a little more credence to putting as opposed to normal weeks. There are only 2 Par 5s at Great White, which is a good thing to note for anyone looking to live bet the event, and it is paramount to score well on them. Ultimately, this is the quintessential week where a “pray and spray” method for outrights will yield the most success and that will be reflected in my full card below. You will also see that I allocated less than my usual 2 units, I plan to enter into the post round market rather than dedicate the full unit amount pre tournament.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>THE PLAYS</strong></span>

<strong>Scottie Scheffler +5650 –</strong> If we are going to dip into the recent Korn Ferry graduates, why not the guy who earned the only fully exempt PGA Tour Status (including a PLAYERS invite) by finishing on top of both the Regular Season Points List as well as the Finals 25 Points list that combined the final three events of the Korn Ferry Finals. Scheffler bagged nine top-10 finishes during the season including a win, then to close the season he won the first Korn Ferry Finals event and parlayed that effort into a T11 and T7 in the subsequent two events. The former University of Texas standout is an absolute ball striking machine, coming in 15th in driving distance and 4th in greens in regulation on the Korn Ferry Tour. Scheffler did manage to qualify for the U.S. Open, barely missing the cut, but proved he could compete in his limited 2018/19 PGA Tour appearances making all 3 cuts. All signs point towards a jump forward with Scheffler, and I am more than happy to get out in front of the market on a guy who absolutely has the game to find himself in the winner’s circle.

<strong>Brian Harman +5750 –</strong> For anyone who listens to the FORE! Profit Podcast that I co-host with Haven Brown they know my disdain for Harman’s game. A short hitting, inconsistent iron player is not the typical guy I back. However, when there is a lack of quality form stats and the field is as weak as it is here, I typically align myself with players who have shown the ability to close out a tournament. Harman fits this bill with his two PGA Tour wins, but also showed some decent form to end the year. What stands out most is his ability to drive the ball straight as he has gained strokes off the tee in 8 of his last 10 showings. This is difficult to do considering his length and Harman will benefit greatly from the altitude adding distance to his drives. Harman has always been a streaky putter and the fact he will live in the fairway with shorter than usual irons in should equate to excellent green in regulation numbers, giving him a chance if he can get the flat stick going. In a field made up of few guys with winning experience, I’ll take a vet who has proven he can close at 50/1 or better.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>THE MATCHUPS</strong></span>

<strong>1u Cameron Tringale (+100) over Brenden Grace –</strong> In a field full of newcomers, it isn’t surprising to see Tringale high up in my model. His last time out, he was abysmal and that looks to be driving his price down. Prior to a hiccup at the Northern Trust, Tringale was 10/12 on made cuts in 2019 behind a solid all around game. Most importantly though Tringale is a solid putter gaining a full stroke on average per round over his last 10 round. Making putts will be absolutely paramount this week as most players will not struggle to find fairways and greens. Grace is the exact opposite here, showing terrible form to finish off the season where he finished higher than 48th only once since THE PLAYERS. His struggles are predominately on the greens where he he is giving up a stroke and a half per round on average over his last 10 and 20 rounds. In what is sure to be a putting contest, I will take the proven entity that is Tringale’s flat stick over the streaky Grace who has shown very little form in 2019.

Minnesota, who entered the game as 9-point favorites, failed to cover the spread. The total points of 230 exceeded the O/U line of 222 by 8 points.</p> <p>Portland took control early, leading 28-17 after the 1st quarter. Minnesota responded with a 36-point 2nd quarter but couldn’t sustain the momentum, as they were outscored 33-21 in the 3rd. Despite a 34-point effort in the 4th, the Wolves couldn’t overcome the 93-74 deficit they faced entering the final period.</p><p>In their 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers, the Timberwolves shot 50.7% from the field, with a 37.1% mark from three, hitting 13 threes overall. Naz Reid led the way, connecting on 4 threes at a 50% rate, finishing with 28 points and 6 rebounds.</p> <p>Anthony Edwards added 26 points, also hitting 4 threes, while Jaden McDaniels contributed 17 points on 80% shooting. Reid and Edwards both scored 12 points in the 2nd quarter, with Reid adding 10 more in the 4th.</p><p>Defensively, the Timberwolves struggled against the Trail Blazers, allowing 122 points on 51% shooting. They gave up 28 points in the 1st quarter, 32 in the 2nd, 33 in the 3rd, and 29 in the 4th.</p> <p>Minnesota had a tough time defending the three, with Portland hitting 18 threes at a 56% rate. The Timberwolves also sent the Blazers to the line 20 times, where they made 18 free throws. Defensively, they recorded 13 steals and 4 blocks.</p><h3>Will Portland Win at Home?</h3><p>The Trail Blazers improved to 4-8 on the season with a 122-108 win over the Timberwolves on Tuesday. Portland was a +9 underdog but covered the spread with the win. The game’s total points of 230 went over the pre-game line of 222.</p> <p>Portland jumped out to a 28-17 lead after the 1st quarter. Portland allowed 36 points in the 2nd and 34 in the 4th but tightened up in the 1st and 3rd, giving up just 17 and 21 points, respectively.</p> <p>Even with Minnesota shooting 50% from the field, the Blazers limited them to 13 made threes on 37% shooting. Portland also sent the Timberwolves to the line 23 times, where they made 21 free throws. The Blazers finished with 28 defensive rebounds, allowing just 4 offensive boards, while adding 14 steals and 7 blocks.</p>

<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Tampa Bay Lightning</strong>&nbsp;had one opportunity after another to complete the sweep over the&nbsp;<strong>Montreal Canadiens,</strong>&nbsp;but they couldn’t get it done.</p>



<p>Is it possible that they have allowed the Habs, who came back from down 3-1 to beat Toronto in the opening playoff round, a chance they’ll come to regret?</p>



<p>Some <strong>BetAnySports</strong> customers might be feeling that way. But the Bolts have every reason to feel confident as they go into Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which begins at 8:05 PM ET on Wednesday at Amalie Arena in Tampa (on NBC).</p>

<p>We could sense that there was indeed a power shortage in the Tampa Bay power play in Game 4. The Lightning had ten minutes worth of chances, but could not cash in, as we recall the Canadiens and their ability to kill off everything for 13 consecutive games coming into this series.</p>



<p>The most dramatic sequence may have taken place during a stretch that spanned the end of regulation and spilled into overtime. Shea Weber went off for high-sticking, in what was called a four-minute penalty. For 1:01 of the third period, and 2:59 of the overtime, Tampa Bay did its best to bombard Montreal goalie Carey Price, to no avail. In fact, the Habs even had a chance to end things with a short-handed goal. Ultimately, Josh Anderson gave them a superhuman effort to hammer home the winner – his second goal of the evening.</p>



<p>And so Montreal has another life.</p>

<p>You simply can’t have the opposition standing alone in front of your goaltender, and you’re not going to survive if someone from the fourth line, like Pat Maroon, gets past your defense to nail a critical goal.</p>



<p>The Canadiens did a number of things in the way of mistakes that may have sunk them under normal circumstances, and some positive things that they probably can’t replicate, like the first NHL goal for Alexander Romanov, assisted by Jake Evans, who hadn’t played since Game 1.</p>



<p>Head coach Dominique Ducharme switched his forwards around to generate more offensive punch, but by adding Tyler Toffoli (their leading regular season scorer) to a line with Brendan Gallagher and Patrick Danault, he didn’t get results. They were on the ice ten minutes together (at even strength), and were outshot 6-to-1, with a “Corsi For” figure of just 17.6%.</p>



<p>On the other hand, the Bolts had an overall 5v5 Corsi of 59.8%, which indicates a certain level of dominance, and they demonstrated their offensive balance, as the fourth line (Maroon, with Tyler Johnson and Mathieu Joseph) had a 64.7% Corsi and a 66.7% Fenwick (extremely good, as indicated by those advanced stats).</p>



<p>And it was not in any way a coincidence that Tampa Bay led Montreal 34-21 in shots on goal.</p>
