Diamondbacks dropped a five-run lead against the Rockies



The Arizona Diamondbacks opened a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies with a win at Coors Field, but then lost the next two, the second of which was a disappointing defeat. Arizona had a 5-0 lead, but a couple of homers from C.J. Cron and six RBIs gave the hosts a 6-5 comeback victory.



David Peralta hit a grand slam in the 5th inning to make it 5-0 for the Dbacks and when everybody thought it was going to be an easy win for Zac Gallen (4-2) and the bullpen, C.J. Cron stepped up for the Rockies. Gallen pitched for 6.0 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Noe Ramirez (2-2) took a loss after allowing a three-run home run to Cron in the 8th.



Madison Bumgarner (3-8) will take the mound for the 17th time this year and is looking for a much better month after losing five of six starts in June. The 32-year-old southpaw carries a 3.63 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 57/26 K/BB ratio in 79.1 innings. Bumgarner faced his former team twice in 2021 (1-0) and registered a 3.75 ERA in 12.0 innings.

Unlike Bumgarner, Carlos Rodon dominated in June and didn’t allow more than two runs in six starts for a 3-0 record. I am backing him to continue with rock-solid displays. Arizona averages 3.95 runs per nine innings against southpaws and I doubt the hosts can score more than two against Rodon.
