<p>Oregon and North Carolina will be cross swords in a duel for the Holiday Bowl and $6,532,700 of prize money when they face at Petco Park. The Ducks are -14.5 favorites on <a href="https://www.bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betdsi/">BetDSI Sportsbook</a>, while the total is set at 73.5 points. These non-conference rivals have never met before.</p>



<p><strong>Ducks fell apart in the final quarter against Oregon State</strong></p>



<p>The No. 15 Oregon Ducks (9-3-0, 8-4-0 ATS) had a chance to reach the Pac-12 Championship game, but even a 17-point lead early in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough to avoid a loss to the Oregon State Beavers on the road.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Ducks were ahead by 21 inside the last five minutes in the third quarter, and although were better in total yards (470-328), first downs (26-19), and forced three turnovers without making one on the other end, they couldn’t get a W.</p>



<p>Bo Nix completed 27 of 41 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns. Chase Cota was impressive in the air with a season-high 136 yards and a score on nine receptions. Troy Franklin chipped in 78 yards and a TD on eight catches, while Terrance Ferguson caught one pass for a 53-yard gain. Noah Whittington led Oregon in rushing yards with 81 and a touchdown. On the defensive end, Bennett Williams led the team with eight tackles.</p>



<p><strong>Tar Heels were destroyed by Clemson in the ACC Championship game</strong></p>



<p>The North Carolina Tar Heels (9-4-0, 6-7-0 ATS) experienced a strong regular season, and thanks to a six-game winning streak, they made it to the ACC Championship game. However, the Clemson Tigers were too strong and freshman QB Drake Maye made three costly errors, including a 98-yard pick-six in the third quarter that decided the tilt. Despite having more first downs (26-17) and possession (35:01-24:59) than the Tigers, the Tar Heels committed three turnovers and forced none in return in a 39-10 defeat.</p>



<p>Drake Maye completed 26 of 42 passes for 268 yards and two interceptions. He did score North Carolina’s only touchdown of the game but on the ground. Elijah Green led all the runners with 65 yards on 21 carries. Josh Downs was solid in the air with 100 yards on 11 receptions, while Kamari Morales and Antoine Green combined for 107 yards on eight catches. Defensively, Will Hardy was rock-solid with a career-high 13 tackles.</p>



<p>WR Josh Downs will not play in the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl against Oregon on Wednesday after deciding to declare for the NFL draft. RB Caleb Hood (undisclosed) is questionable to feature against the Ducks.</p>

<p>The biggest reason for such a spread and advantage on the Ducks is Josh Downs’ unavailability to play in this Bowl game after declaring for the NFL draft. Downs is a two-time All-ACC wide receiver who had back-to-back 1,000 receiving yards in the last two years and 22 receiving touchdowns during his three-year stay with North Carolina.</p>



<p>&nbsp;Although his absence will hurt the Tar Heels, I am backing Drake Maye to have a redemption game on Wednesday after a disastrous display against Clemson. He does have over 4,100 passing yards and 35 touchdowns this season and leads the 8th-best passing offense in the country that averages 317.2 yards per game. Maye can turn to Antoine Green, Bryson Nesbitt, and J.J. Jones and target them often in this tilt. They will split Downs’ targets.</p>

<p>Well, I talked about North Carolina’s offense, but it’s vital to mention Oregon’s, which is averaging 39.7 points per game (9th in the country) and is among the top 15 in both passing and running. Given that the Tar Heels allow 31.0 points per contest, I can see a classic shootout on Wednesday. Over is 4-1 in the Tar Heels’ last five Bowl games; Over is 4-1 in the Ducks’ last five non-conference games, while Over is 15-6 in North Carolina’s last 21 vs. a team with a winning record.</p>

A lot of people wondered whether or not the St. Louis Blues could flip the switch for Game 1 of the first round. It turned out that they could not. The Vancouver Canucks took down a 5-2 victory on Wednesday night and the reigning champs already appear to be taking on water. There is no such thing as a must-win game until you face elimination, but the Blues are in a “must-show-something” spot for Game 2.

They’ll be in that spot as a -145 favorite per the odds at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>DSI Sportsbook</strong></a>. The Canucks are +125 on the other side with a total of 5.5 juiced to the under.

The most important player on the ice for the Blues in Game 2 will be the one wearing the most pads. Jordan Binnington was a regular season savior and a postseason hero for St. Louis during last season’s magical run. Unfortunately, he was outplayed by Jake Allen during the regular season and could very well be replaced going into Friday night’s game.

Binnington was the poster child for resiliency last season in the NHL Playoffs. He was 8-2 with a 1.78 GAA and a .937 SV% following a loss. He also benefited from a Blues team that was extremely good in its own zone after Craig Berube took over the team just 19 games into the season.

The 26-year-old was not bad during the regular season. He had a 2.56 GAA and a .912 SV%, but Allen was clearly better. He had a 2.15 GAA and a .927 SV%. Perhaps more importantly, Allen posted an 11.23 goals saved above average mark, while Binnington had a 3.31 GSAA. With how uncomfortable Binnington has looked in the restart and the playoffs, with 13 goals allowed in three games, the Blues may have to make the tough decision and play Allen.

It isn’t all on the goaltending, though. The Blues had 31 shots on Jacob Markstrom in Game 1, but it was the first signs of true life from their offense since the month of March. In the restart games, the Blues generated very few scoring chances. They had 18 scoring chances in Game 1 and nine of them qualified as “high-danger” scoring chances, but they still only managed two goals. Vladimir Tarasenko still didn’t seem to have all of the rust shaken off.

The Canucks have to be happy about scoring five goals and winning the first game of the series, but they have to button some things up as well. They allowed those nine high-danger scoring chances and also lost in other areas at 5-v-5 like Corsi% and 5-v-5 shots on goal. St. Louis also won in the dot.

In a normal environment, Vancouver would be praised for taking away home ice. With all of the games in the Edmonton bubble, most people won’t really realize that there are still advantages to taking over home ice. St. Louis squandered one of their games with the last change. Against a Canucks team that doesn’t have a ton of depth up front, the first game could represent a real lost opportunity for the Blues.

The Blues have been able to deflect some of the blame from Binnington because the Canucks scored three power play goals. St. Louis did have a below average penalty kill during the regular season, but they also need Binnington to make some saves in key spots. They also need to get their legs going. Vancouver had six power play attempts to St. Louis’s three. The Canucks already had a series playing for their postseason lives. The Blues did not. They went through the motions in the Round Robin. St. Louis looked a step slow at times and it led to some undisciplined infractions.

The reality, though, is that St. Louis was the better team 5-v-5. Markstrom was clearly better than Binnington, but the Blues got a taste of what they’ll need to do better in Game 2. It starts with getting up to game speed and ends with Binnington making the saves he should. Perhaps the Blues will opt to use Jake Allen and he could be an upgrade for them if he does get the call.

Vancouver had four high-danger chances in the first period at 5-v-5. They had two after that. St. Louis adjusted to some degree as the game wore on, but the penalty kill failed them. At 5-v-5, they are the better team. They should bounce back and even up the series here, regardless of whether or not Binnington or Allen gets the call.
