You had to go into these NBA playoffs with the possibility that some of the top teams on the ladder were going to have some momentum upset by the hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When we talk about the Western Conference, an example of that may turn out to be the Los Angeles Lakers, listed as a +325 choice to win the crown in the NBA futures odds at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>BetOnline Sportsbook</strong></a>.

The Lakers were in a groove with LeBron James and Anthony Davis as a slam-bang duo, but you knew that already. As you travel down the road through the playoffs, however, it becomes a burden if you are lacking in some department. Yes, the Lakers added JR Smith and Dion Waiters to their backcourt, but having to play without the likes of Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo produces a negative that outweighs any positives.

Teams need defenders, particularly people who can get out to the perimeter. Bradley and Rondo were guys capable of that. And against highly productive backcourts, there is liability. However, at the same time it must be mentioned that the Lakers held the Portland duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum well below their season average in the first two games of the series.

I'd expect that as they progress, for as far as they go, LeBron will assume more and more of the scoring burden. Whether that makes things rougher or easier for an opponent to defend is something that remains to be seen.

A lot of people in the media have talked about the Los Angeles Clippers (+240 to go all the way) as if they were a horse that was staying just behind the front-runner, pacing themselves for a huge run down the home stretch. And that is exactly what may happen. Doc Rivers' team seems to have all the ingredients - dynamic offensive people in the starting lineup (Kawhi Leonard and Paul George); renowned defensive stoppers (those two guys plus Patrick Beverley); a center (Ivica Zubac) who concentrates on rebounding and blocking shots; and extraordinary offensive firepower off the bench, which can give them an edge over just about anyone's second unit.

The West is very competitive. Who else might have a chance? Here are some bullet points:

* Denver Nuggets (+6600): If they win it, chalk it up as a triumph for going against the grain, with a BIG lineup. Bol Bol, where are you?

* Oklahoma City Thunder (+20000): Tight, dynamic, well-coached and lots of comeback wins (16 when trailing after three quarters). Also the NBA's best against the pointspread; don't forget that. But they'll need quite a comeback now, won't they?

* Houston Rockets (+900): Two superstars, and lots of analytics, but ultimately may prove TOO small be vault themselves over the top.

* Utah Jazz (+5000): Donovan Mitchell has picked up the slack, as promised.

* Dallas Mavericks (+5000): We all know how great Luka Doncic is, but they don't have enough players.

* Portland Trail Blazers (+5000): They're a tougher matchup for the Lakers than Memphis would have been, but the metrics don't look sensational.

The Milwaukee Bucks (+325 to win the title at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/s/betonline"><strong>BetOnline</strong></a>) created some doubts in the minds of their supporters last year when they blew a 2-0 lead against Toronto in last year's East finals. Was their Game 1 loss to Orlando just a hiccup? Or perhaps a harbinger of things to come?

The Achilles heel of the Bucks is their defensive scheme, where they appear to bank on the proposition that their opponents won't make enough three-pointers to really make a difference. Lord knows they allow them to take enough (more than any other NBA team).

Still, they're tough inside the arc, and not a lot of teams can keep up with their tempo. Plus, if you are of the belief that the team with the best player has a leg up on the others, you'll like this Milwaukee crew and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who knows how to beat opponents every way imaginable.

The Toronto Raptors (+700 to win it all) have looked like team that has had everything moving in the right direction. And we may suggest, even quietly so, as the L.A. teams get a lot of attention and the Bucks, of course, have been the #1 team in the East much of the campaign.

But who would have thought at the season's outset that the Raptors would have been able to sustain the loss of an MVP-level player (Kawhi Leonard), without major personnel changes, and be a legitimate contender for a championship repeat?

Let's concede that any team aspiring to win this thing needs to be proficient on the defensive end. Well, not only have the Raptors had the best Defensive Rating of any team in the bubble, they have managed to stay near the top of the NBA on the stop end without - again - Leonard, who is arguably the best defender at his position. It helps when Fred VanVleet can make 17 of his first 31 triples.

These are good omens for this team. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were one of the last two teams left in the bubble.

Let's look at the others:

* Boston Celtics (+1000): Can't count them out because we've seen the way Brad Stevens has surprised before in the playoffs. The sense here is that they won't be able to get it done without elite big people.

* Philadelphia 76ers (+40000): They didn't get the chance to implement their lineup tweak, with Ben Simmons injured. Will they get the opportunity next season?

* Miami Heat (+2500): Erik Spoelstra has put together a nice ensemble, but they are probably one player away. Those benchings (Kendrick Nunn, Meyers Leonard) were strange.

* Indiana Pacers (+30000): Are they more cohesive with Victor Oladipo, or without him? Tough to tell, really.

* Orlando Magic (+50000): Even one win over Milwaukee is a major accomplishment.

* Brooklyn Nets (+100000): Purely a "wait 'til next year" scenario. Fortunately the off-season won't be long.

The Missouri Tigers (-11) are heading neutral to face their SEC nemesis Arkansas Razorbacks at War Memorial Stadium. This Friday SEC game is scheduled to be nationally-televised on CBS and the opening kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET.

The spread for this SEC game is placed at 11 points in favor of Missouri. The Tigers are currently getting -450 moneyline odds while the Razorbacks are +325. The over/under has been set at 55 points, and if one side catches a lucky break early, it'll probably result in a solid live betting opportunity.

The game's total has been driven higher after originally being set at 53.5. The opening spread (11) has remained firm.

The Tigers are 5-6 straight up (SU), including 2-5 SU against conference opponents. The Razorbacks are 2-9 SU overall and 0-7 SU in conference play. The disappointing Tigers are 4-7 against the spread (ATS) and have lost 13.6 units so far. They've been a good under bet and have posted an O/U record of 2-9.

The Tigers fell to Tennessee 24-20 in a contest where the defense allowed the Volunteers to pass for 415 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 111 yards. Josh Palmer had a productive day for the Volunteers in that one with 124 yards on six catches. Offensively, Kelly Bryant completed 16 passes for just 166 yards and one touchdown. Larry Rountree III (43 yards on 16 rush attempts) and the signal-caller Bryant (18 yards on 10 carries) led the ground attack. Barrett Banister (five receptions, 46 yards) and Daniel Parker Jr. (four catches, 25 yards) shared the receiving duties in the defeat.

Arkansas just fell 56-20 to LSU. The team's defense allowed the Tigers to pass for 352 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 260 yards and five scores. Clyde Edwards-Helaire was outstanding, putting up 188 rushing yards and three touchdowns on six attempts, along with 65 yards on seven catches for the Tigers. As a group, the Razorbacks collectively completed 13-of-28 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown. K.J. Jefferson went seven-for-14 for 105 yards while Nick Starkel was three-of-10 for 34 yards. Rakeem Boyd (33 yards on 13 rush attempts) and the signal-caller Jefferson (zero yards on 12 carries) mounted the running attack as Treylon Burks (three receptions, 80 yards) and Mike Woods (three catches, 47 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching corps in the loss.

Missouri has run the ball on 54.9 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Arkansas has a rush percentage of 47.9 percent. The Tigers have rushed for 152 yards per game (including 129 per game against Southeastern opponents) and have 12 touchdowns on the ground this year. The Razorbacks are putting up 146 rush yards per contest (114 in conference) and have 14 total rushing TDs.

The Tigers have tallied 226 yards/contest in the air overall (199 per game versus conference opposition) and have 16 passing scores so far. The Razorbacks have recorded 203 pass yards per outing (185.6 in the SEC) and have 12 total pass TDs.

Defensively, Missouri should have the upper hand in both phases. The team has allowed opponents to run for an average of 130 yards and pass for 189 yards per game. Arkansas has allowed 228.5 yards per game on the ground and 233.2 to opposing teams in the air. The Tigers are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 5.49 to opposing QBs, while the Razorbacks have allowed an 8.06 ANY/A.

Bryant is up to 2,011 passing yards this season. He's connected on 156-of-253 attempts with 15 passing touchdowns and five interceptions. Bryant's got a 7.26 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 4.19 over the last two games.

We're looking for Tigers to control the clock by pounding the defense with their running backs. In addition to receiver Jalen Knox (254 receiving yards and one touchdown), Tyler Badie (396 rush yards, two rush TDs, 336 receiving yards, five receiving TDs) and Larry Rountree III (711 rush yards, eight rush TDs) have delivered in the offense for Missouri.

For the home team, K.J. Jefferson has produced 137 yards, zero TDs and zero INTs. Jefferson's ANY/A stands at 5.84 for the year and 2.21 over his past two games.

The Razorbacks also like to keep their RBs involved. In addition to Rakeem Boyd (158 receiving yards), Treylon Burks (35 rush yards, 410 receiving yards) and Mike Woods (381 receiving yards and four TDs) have seen a multitude of touches recently.

These two teams faced off a year ago with the final result being a 38-0 win for Missouri.

Saint Francis U Red Flash vs Clemson Tigers NCAA Basketball Betting Pick & Prediction 11/8/24

Carnage is expected this week at Winged Foot Golf Club for the 120th U.S. Open. There have been six previous U.S. Opens at Winged Foot and only one has ended with the victor under par. Geoff Oglivy won at 5-over back in 2006. Par generally isn’t a very good score in DFS circles, but it will have to be this week.

This is a monster of a course at around 7,500 and just a par 70, so birdies could be few and far between, especially with the greens and the extremely penal rough. With a course setup like this, finding value picks for DFS contests is an even more difficult challenge because a lot of these guys could eject and wind up not making it to the weekend.

We’ll try our best to find guys you can rely on in this week’s DFS value picks article. Salaries are from <a href="http://bangthebook.com/s/draftkings"><strong>DraftKings</strong></a>.

<strong>Kevin Kisner ($7,600) – </strong>Kevin Kisner is my favorite long shot on the board this week. Kisner is a guy that can and will pepper fairways, but he’s annually one of the best putters on tour as well. Kisner was a top-15 putter last season on the PGA Tour and 33rd in driving accuracy. He’s not the biggest hitter and that could hurt him here, but fairways and greens are the recipe for success at Winged Foot. He’s a low-risk player in those two regards and a guy that probably has a higher ceiling than most of the players priced around him for this tournament.

<strong>Ian Poulter ($7,300) – </strong>Ian Poulter has seen all of the tough courses around the world that have hosted major tournaments, Ryder Cups, Presidents Cups, etc. Poulter finished last season tied for sixth in SG: Putting with Matt Kuchar. Poulter is not in the greatest current form and he only made it one event into the FedEx Cup Playoffs before bowing out, but he’s a guy that plays well on some of the toughest U.S. courses, like Augusta National, and the greens have been compared to the greens there by some pundits in the past. Poulter shouldn’t be fazed by the stakes, the field, or the course. While there isn’t a ton of statistical justification here, we can call it a hunch.

<strong>Cameron Champ ($7,300) – </strong>The higher-risk play here at $7,300 is Cameron Champ. Champ hits it a country mile. He was second to Bryson DeChambeau in percentage of yardage covered off the tee. DeChambeau is 500 times the putter that Champ is, but Champ has the length to shorten this course and give himself a chance. He’s got a lot of upside in that regard, but he has a lot of risk as well, considering that he was 136th in SG: Putting last season. He also hits fewer fairways than DeChambeau. But, you need big, strong dudes to get out of the foot-long rough at Winged Foot and Champ can at least grip it and rip it and see what happens.

<strong>Jason Kokrak ($6,800) – </strong>In terms of recent form, Jason Kokrak has been really good. He was 15th in the Wyndham Championship, 13th in the Northern Trust, and sixth in the BMW Championship before failing to qualify for the TOUR Championship. Kokrak is a pretty pure ball striker and a guy that can really get it out there off the tee. Kokrak was actually top 10 in SG: OTT last season and 41st in SG: Tee-to-Green. He’s not a great putter, but most guys that are long off the tee struggle with that. He was seventh in driving distance, so if he can find some fairways, he’s definitely got the length to attack this par 70 track.

<strong>Ryan Palmer ($6,600) – </strong>Ryan Palmer is just a solid player. Palmer had five top-10 finishes last season and did make it all the way into the TOUR Championship, where he finished T-24th. Palmer did struggle with his putter last season, but was 29th in SG: T2G and 40th in SG: OTT. He’s not a prolific hitter, but he’s a solid driver and doesn’t really have any major weakness to his game until he gets to the greens. Even with a poor display of putting, he was a top 30 player in the FedEx Cup standings and had a bunch of top-10 finishes, so why not take a look at him here at a really cheap price?

Over their last 10 games as the underdog, the Hornets have gone 7-3 vs. the spread. On the road, Delaware State has an ATS mark of 8-4 this year and they are 3-2 ATS in their last 5 road contests. Overall, the Hornets are 10-9 vs. the spread this season.</p><p>Delaware State's over/under record for the season is 9-10 and today's line of 135 is lower than the average over/under line in their games (139.6). So far, 11 of their games have finished with more points than today's line. Delaware State Hornets vs Norfolk State Spartans Betting Pick & Prediction 2/3/24

The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, is one of the most important non-grand-slam tournaments of the season, both on the ATP and WTA Tours. The ATP 1000 outdoor hard court tournament attracted all of the top 32 players in the world, each of which earned an automatic bye into the second round.

With the exception of world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who was shockingly eliminated in the Round of 32, things have mostly gone as expected with three of the same semi-finalists as the 2023 BNP Paribas Open.

Here's a look back at the early round results and a preview of what to expect this weekend.
<h2>Early Rounds Recap</h2>
Djokovic needed three sets to win his first match against Aleksander Vukic and looked surprisingly human in his third-round match against Luca Nardi. The Italian, who only earned a spot in the tournament as the lucky loser, beat Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Nardi lost in the fourth round to Tommy Paul, who is one of the four semi-finalists this year.

Paul will take on Russian Daniil Medvedev in one of the two semi-finals on Friday. Medvedev, a runner-up in last year's BNP Paribas Open, has dropped just one set while beating Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune, and Sebastian Korda.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the No. 3 and No. 2 players in the world, respectively, meet in the other semi-final. Sinner has yet to lose this season and could move into the world No. 2 spot with a win over Alcaraz, who won last year at Indian Wells. Alcaraz is coming off an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win over Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, while Sinner beat Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-3 in the quarters.
