Syracuse's defense was consistently inept last season. How consistent? Well, they were 109th against the rush and 110th against the pass. They return just four starters, and while the secondary may be the strongest component, that doesn't mean it is, well, strong. And if they started to learn the new scheme in the fall, they are going to be behind the eight-ball against a squad like North Carolina.

Cynics may suggest that their best shot on offense may be to maneuver kicker Andre Szmyt (Lou Groza Award winner as freshman) into position. But they should dent the scoreboard a little against the UNC stop unit, even with the presence of the heels' second best quarterback, who is actually their best linebacker (Chazz Surratt, who is All-ACC and could wind up playing in Sundays). But we don't see the 'Cuse slowing down this powder blue machine. This adds up to an OVER in our estimation.

<p>At 7:40 PM ET, the Cardinals and Brewers face off in an NL Central matchup. This one is being played at American Family Field in Milwaukee, and the Brewers are the heavy favorite on the money line (-146). The Cardinals are 69-69, and Steven Matz is set to start on Tuesday. Aaron Civale is going for the Brewers.</p>

<p>The over/under line for Tuesday's game is sitting at 8.5 runs, and BSWI will be televising the game. On the money line, the Brewers are 81-57, while the Cardinals are 3rd in the NL Central.</p><h3>MILWAUKEE BREWERS VS ST. LOUIS CARDINALS BETTING PICK</h3><p>The Pick: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline -146</p><p>This game will be played at American Family Field at 7:40 ET on Tuesday, September 3rd.</p><h3>HOW TO BET THE CARDINALS VS BREWERS:</h3><ul><li>We have the Brewers winning by a score of 5 to 4</li><li>However, if you're looking for a run line pick, we like the Cardinals to cover</li><li>As for an over/under pick, we have this game finishing with 9 runs and like the over</li></ul><p>It was all Milwaukee in the last game of this series, as the Brewers took down the Cardinals by a score of 9-3. The Brewers offense only had three more hits than the Cardinals and struck out eight times, but still picked up a convincing win. Heading into the game, they were favored at -166 on the money line.</p>

<p>This game featured a starting pitching matchup between Freddy Peralta for the Brewers and Andre Pallante for the Cardinals. Peralta only went 5 1/3 innings but gave up just three hits and two earned runs. On the other side, Pallante was tagged for five runs in five innings of work.</p>

<p>Milwaukee's two-through-four hitters did the most damage, as Jackson Chourio, Willy Adames, and Rhys Hoskins each homered and combined for nine RBIs. Chourio and Adames each scored twice for the Brewers' offense.</p><h3>Cardinals Records & Stats</h3><p>St. Louis is at an even 69-69 overall, and they are 12 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central. The Cardinals lost the series opener vs. the Brewers, and they are 19-24 in divisional games this year.</p>

<p>So far, the Cardinals have been good as the underdog on the road, going 23-27 this year. St. Louis has been good on the road as the favorite, as they are 33-34 overall. Their overall series record is 22-17-5, and they have won two straight series on the road.</p><p>When betting the Cardinals on the run line, it's been a better proposition to take them as the underdog. As the favorite, they are just 22-45 on the run line, while they are 46-25 as the underdog. Their overall run line record is 68-70, and their average run differential in winning games is +2.7, while it's -3.6 in losses.</p><p>The St. Louis Cardinals are on the road facing the Milwaukee Brewers today, and the over/under line is set at 8.5 runs. <p>Alec Burleson has been the Cardinals' top power threat this season, as he leads the team with 21 home runs. His 72 RBIs are also the best mark on the team. Paul Goldschmidt has been hot of late, going 9/20 in his last five games, but he is still batting just .244 for the season. Goldschmidt is also on a nine-game hitting streak.</p><h3>Brewers Records & Stats</h3><p>Milwaukee is 81-57 overall and leads the NL Central by 10 games over the Cubs. The Brewers have gone 30-17 against other teams in the NL Central. At home, the Brewers are 41-25 this year and have gone 40-32 on the road.</p>

<p>So far, the Brewers have been good as the favorite, going 47-32, and they are 34-25 as the underdog. Milwaukee has won three straight games at home, and they have an overall series record of 24-15-4. The Brewers have won three straight series and two straight series on the road.</p><p>When the Brewers win, they win big, with an average run margin of 3.7 runs per game. That has helped them to a 72-66 run line record. They have been a profitable run line bet at home, going 33-33, and they have covered the run line in three straight home games.</p><p>When the Milwaukee Brewers play at home, the over/under line is set at 8.5 runs. So far this season, the Brewers have played 48 games with an over/under line of 8.5 runs or higher, and the over has hit in 27 of those games. The combined run average in Milwaukee's home games this season is 8.8 runs per game, slightly higher than the over/under line for today's game.</p><p>Right-hander Aaron Civale gets the start for the Brewers today and will be looking to build off his last outing, where he didn't give up a run. Against the Giants on August 29th, he pitched seven innings, picking up the win in the process. Looking back over his last four outings, Civale has been solid, giving up two earned runs or fewer in each start. He has a record of 5-8 this season and an ERA of 4.59 to go along with a WHIP of 1.34. For the year, he has made seven quality starts and is averaging 8.45 strikeouts per nine innings. Overall, Civale has allowed 24 home runs.</p>
<p>For the season, the Brewers are 5th in the league in runs per game at 4.9 and have been even better on the road, averaging 5 runs per contest. As a team, they are batting .253, which is 8th in the league, and have the 3rd best on-base percentage in the league. Milwaukee has also been very good at avoiding strikeouts this season and are 2nd in the MLB in walks.</p>

<p>Willy Adames is the Brewers' top power threat, as his 29 home runs are 8th in the league and the most on the team. He has also been swinging a hot bat of late, hitting seven homers over his last 10 games while going 14/42 (.333). Adames also comes into the game on an 11-game hitting streak. William Contreras is batting .280 for the season and is 2nd on the team with 80 RBIs.</p>

The Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio is the last chance for players to smooth out any of the rough edges before The Masters at Augusta National. We actually have a pretty weak field on hand overall for this week’s tournament, as a lot of players must feel comfortable about their current form heading into the first major of the calendar year.

Dustin Johnson is the big favorite, but instead of seeing names like Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Webb Simpson, Collin Morikawa, or Rory McIlroy right behind him, we see names like Jordan Spieth, Scottie Scheffler, Tony Finau, Corey Conners, and Abraham Ancer.

Rather than focus on who is not there, we’ll focus on who is there as we handicap the 2021 Valero Texas Open with odds from<a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betanysports"><strong> BetAnySports.eu</strong></a>. All players are listed below the body of the article.
<h3><strong><u>The Odds</u></strong></h3>
<em>(Editor's note: After posting, Dustin Johnson withdrew from the event.)</em>

DJ is the +650 favorite, but the weakness of this field leaves us with only three additional players under 22/1 per the odds at BetAnySports. BAS lists Jordan Spieth as the second favorite with a price double that of Johnson at +1300. Scottie Scheffler, who was in the Final Four last week at the WGC-Dell Match Play, joins Tony Finau at +1600. Everybody else is +2200 or higher.

Guys like reigning champion Corey Conners and Abraham Ancer are +2500, with Brendan Steele and Ryan Palmer at +2800, Charley Hoffman at +3000, Cameron Tringle and Chris Kirk at +3300 and +3500, respectively. This is simply not a high-end field, but it is a full points event and represents the last chance for players to qualify for The Masters.
<h3><strong><u>The Field</u></strong></h3>
Conners was a Monday qualifier back in 2019 that went on to win the tournament. You don’t have a lot of big names on the winners list here. With its position just before The Masters or previously as an alternate event in the fall, players like Andrew Landry, Kevin Chappell, Charley Hoffman, Jimmy Walker, Steven Bowditch, Martin Laird, Ben Curtis, Brendan Steele, and Zach Johnson have won here over the last 10 tournaments.

There are several players in the field this week that need a win to meet the criteria required to tee off at Augusta. Rickie Fowler is one of them, along with Hoffman, Brandt Snedeker, Jim Furyk, Adam Hadwin, and Nick Taylor, just to name a few.
<h3><strong><u>Course Profile</u></strong></h3>
TPC San Antonio features the Oaks Course, a par 72 just shy of 7,500 yards. It is a Greg Norman design with some large green complexes. Several of the greens seem to be multi-tiered, so there are some valleys that you do not want to be in. Club selection will be important here with the large greens and all kinds of pin placement opportunities for tournament officials.

Putters and wedges are important on this course, along with strokes gained on approach, which is just a key part of the handicap every week. Per DataGolf, some similar courses to TPC San Antonio are Nine Bridges, where the CJ Cup has been played, TPC Summerlin for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and even Monterey Peninsula, one of the courses used during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am most years.

Holes 17 and 18 are great birdie opportunities, so if we have some drama on the back nine coming to the clubhouse, par will be a bad score for those in the mix.
<h3><strong><u>Yay or Neigh?</u></strong></h3>
This is our Horse for Course section, which takes a look at players that have had strong results at a given course for a certain event. Conners is the most recent winner among several in the field. Conners did something in 2019 that nobody else did – shoot all four rounds in the 60s. His 20-under was the best winning score since Tommy Armour III shot 26-under in 2003.

Hoffman won in 2016 and was also runner-up in 2019 and 2011. He ended a string of seven straight top-15 finishes when he wound up 40th in 2017, but perhaps started up a new one with his finish in 2019.

Ryan Moore scored a top-five finish two years ago with an outright third-place finish. He has now finished in the top 20 in all four starts at TPC San Antonio. Another Ryan that has played well here is Palmer with four top-10 finishes. He did miss the cut here in 2019, but was sixth, fourth, and sixth from 2015-17.

Jordan Spieth played here for the first time since 2015 two years ago and finished T-30th. He was runner-up in 2015 and 10th in 2014. He’s at such a short price this week, though, that there isn’t a whole lot of value.

Brendan Steele has a win and two other top-10 finishes. Kevin Streelman has back-to-back top-10 finishes here. Zach Johnson is back in the field with a couple of wins and various other top 10s.

<h3><strong><u>Current Form</u></strong></h3>
We really don’t have a lot of guys in this field in top-notch current form. With some invitational events recently, a couple of WGC events, and just the overall strength of the field, finding guys that are in a nice groove is a bit of a challenge.

Leaving the WGC-Dell Match Play out of the equation, here are a few players alphabetically that have done well recently. Keegan Bradley has made three straight cuts with a top-10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then a couple top-30 finishes at the PLAYERS and Honda Classic. Conners was top-10 at the API and the PLAYERS before skipping the Honda. Adam Hadwin was eighth at the Honda and inside the top 30 in both the Genesis Open and the PLAYERS.

Chris Kirk has a couple of top-25 finishes in his last three events. Denny McCarthy was T-3rd in the Honda Classic and has made three cuts in a row. Brendan Steele has an 18th and a third in his last three events.

Like I said, there really aren’t a lot of guys running all that great right now.
<h3><strong><u>Handicap &amp; Picks</u></strong></h3>
Throw some darts and look for some grenade prices this week. There simply aren’t a lot of must-bet guys this week. It is not an easy event to handicap.

Bradley is eighth in SG: Tee-to-Green and sixth in SG: Approach this year at +5000. He’s the best of anybody in the field in that stat not named Dustin Johnson. His putter has been terrible, but Corey Conners isn’t a good putter and he won here two years ago with his ball striking and a surprisingly good performance on the greens. Bradley is the shortest price I’ll be interested in.

Adam Hadwin is too good to be 60/1 in this field. Hadwin has been good with his wedges and ranks just outside the top 50 in putting. Doug Ghim is probably too good to be +7000, but everybody remembers his huge collapse at the PLAYERS Championship and the MC that followed at the Honda. Ghim is 20th in SG: Approach.

Those are the two I have now, but may look at some triple-digit shots more as the tournament approaches.
