The Oklahoma City Thunder have been sneaking up on their opponents all season long. And as NBA bettors at BetAnySports may already be aware, they have compiled the best point spread record in the league (44-28, which is also their straight-up mark).

Donovan also did some "tweaking" with the construction of the lineup, which often called for three guards on the floor at once. This may be the kind of thing that leaves them in good stead against the Rockets' smallish lineup.

One major difference between these two teams on the floor will be the fact that OKC will rely a little more on muscle. Steven Adams provides that, and things with him get pretty rough at times. We'll see how he - or Nerlens Noel, who spells him - will deal with the likes of Robert Covington. The Rockets will undoubtedly look to spread OKC's defenders out.

While Westbrook will be missing some time, Dennis Schroder, another of OKC's point guards, is back after leaving the bubble for the birth of a child.

We know it's not a large sampling, but perhaps it is worth noting that the Thunder were the NBA's best at defending three-pointers in the seeding games, allowing just 30%. When you are playing against Houston, which, completely by design, attempts more triples than anyone, that is something to strongly consider.

And speaking of defense, Oklahoma City will be greatly aided by the return of Andre Roberson, who missed more than 900 days with a knee injury. When you talk about people who can truly operate on the stop end, he fits the category. So it will indeed be interesting as to how Donovan utilizes him, particularly when it comes to dealing with James Harden, likely to take on more of scoring load early in the series without Westbrook alongside him.

This set of circumstances, from where we sit, doesn't look too bad for OKC advancing to the next round of play.

If there are any constants in college basketball, it's that when you watch the Syracuse Orange you're going to be looking at a matchup zone defense and when you see the Virginia Cavaliers you will be looking at a Pack Line defense.

When you think about it, Virginia is the reigning national champion. Aren't they? Without an NCAA Tournament last season, you'd probably have to say that.

You can usually be assured that the Cavaliers are going to do a lot of fundamental things well. And this includes some solid shooting, as they are among the top 25 in the country (out of 357 teams) in marksmanship from both two and three-point range. And from the line, they are a blistering 80.4%, which is fourth best in the country.

During the Bennett era, they have also defended without fouling; only 15% of their opponents' points come from the charity stripe.

And like all of Bennett's teams, they take care of the ball. Virginia has turned the ball over on only 13.5% of its possessions, which ranks them fourth in the nation in offensive TO percentage.

Interestingly enough, the numbers attached to Virginia's defensive performance are not as glittering as they have been in much of the recent past. Well that is, if you consider allowing 34.6% shooting from three-point range to be a huge disappointment.

One thing Virginia's shooters had better be ready for is a Syracuse zone that has been stingy. The Orange have held the opposition to 28.6% from downtown.

But you know, a stop is not a stop unless you can pull down the defensive rebound. And this is an area the matchup zone is always going to have trouble with. That kind of scheme is different from the Pack Line in that it does not normally allow for defenders to directly box out the opposition on the boards. The result is that you allow a lot of second-shot opportunities. That's what Virginia should get, and that will chew some clock, because when you talk about the Cavs, you're talking about one of the most patient, deliberate teams in the nation.

So that's a difference between these two, as standouts like 7-foot Jay Huff, Marquette transfer Sam Hauser and Trey Murphy will be able to grab their share of rebounds.And those guys can all get to the circle and hit triples, whereas Syracuse doesn't have a lot of three-point artillery.

And why is that extra important? Well, because Virginia's scheme has made it real difficult for Syracuse to operate from short and mid-range when they've gone head-to-head. Last season, the Orange managed just 28% shooting from TWO-point range in two meetings. When you do that and hit a bunch of threes you might be able to get by. But Syracuse doesn't throw them down like that.

And that's why we'll lay the points.

ACC Basketball Picks -- No Excuse For the 'Cuse If They Can't Shoot vs. Virginia

The <b>Chicago Bulls</b> can make themselves a beneficiary of the NBA's revised playoff system, but they still have to battle to get into that situation.

The <b>New York Knicks </b>have put themselves in a position where they could conceivably have home court advantage in a first-round playoff series. At the same time, if they slip they might find themselves in a four-game play-in with Chicago.

Both of these teams have been moving in a better direction of late, and they'll meet at Madison Square Garden at 7:40PM ET on Wednesday.

The Knicks were riding a nine-game winning streak before they were halted the other night by the Phoenix Suns. Of course, that's no shame, because the Suns may well wind up with the #1 seed in the Western Conference.

New York (34-28 SU, 39-22-1 ATS) is tied for the #4 East seed with the Atlanta Hawks, but they are just two games ahead of the Celtics and Heat, who are tied for sixth. So the Knicks are not far from having to come into the format as the #7 team, where they could be knocked out in the space of two games.

The Bulls (26-35 SU, 32-28-1 ATS) are a game behind the Washington Wizards for the tenth spot, which is the cutoff. Here is how it will work - the seventh and eighth seed play each other, with the winner slotted at #7. The ninth and tenth-place teams play each other, with the winner playing the loser of that 7-8 game for the final conference playoff spot.

We explain that to illustrate that neither team has anything wrapped up yet, the Bulls even less so.

Both teams have first-year head coaches who have initiated some change. Billy Donovan came over from Oklahoma City and has already won more games than the Bulls won last year. And the team reached out and got a quality big man in a trade, picking up Nikola Vucevic, who played in the NBA All-Star Game, representing Orlando.

The Knicks have responded to Tom Thibodeau's efforts to instill a defensive culture much faster than most people expected. They are deliberate in terms of "Pace," ranking 30th (slowest) in the NBA, and they're 4th in Defensive Rating. They lack somewhat with regard to explosiveness, but Julius Randle, averaging 23.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and six assists, has become one of the more effective players in the NBA, while RJ Barrett has taken a big step forward in his second year, averaging over 17 points and shooting 74% at the line, where he "bricked" last season.

If we told you that you couldn't look at the standings, but reeled off all the wounded for the New York Yankees, you might be caught saying, "Well, there's always next year."

Just ponder all this:

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have put together 104 plate appearances between them. Aaron Hicks (27 homers last year) only became available in mid-May. Miguel Andujar, who was nothing short of a revelation last year as he hit 27 homers and just missed the .300 mark, finishing second in the rookie of the year voting (ahead of Gleyber Torres), played briefly, then suffered a shoulder injury that has put him out for the year. Greg Bird, the first baseman who has been a real heart-breaker, is sidelined with a foot injury.

Luis Severino, the ace of the staff, has a rotator cuff injury that continues to keep him out. He hasn't played in 2019; neither has another All-Star, fire-throwing reliever Dellin Betances, or southpaw Jordan Montgomery, who may have been the best rookie pitcher in the American League in 2017.

James Paxton, potentially dominant when healthy, missed a few weeks in May, although such a thing might be expected of him, considering his history. CC Sabathia was out for about ten days before recently returning.

Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, a superstar at one time, played in five games, then went on the injured list with a calf strain and hasn't played since (Ooh, we don't want Golden State Warriors/Kevin Durant fans to read that).

So how have the Yankees been able to matriculate their way to a 39-22 record and a lead in the American League East (through Thursday's games), making them the third-leading favorite at <a href="http://betanysports.eu/btb50/"><strong>BetAnySports</strong></a> to win the World Series at +575?

Well, some guys have started to do what they're capable of, and frankly, they've gotten some nice surprises.

For one thing, catcher Gary Sanchez isn't hitting .186 this year; he is, in fact more than 70 points higher and just so happens to be leading the American League in home runs (with 19). Luke Voit has shown the team that he was more than just a flash in the pan as a second-half pickup in 2018. He has a .962 OPS as a Yankee, with 29 homers in 356 at bats (one for every 12.3 at bats).

An afterthought named Gio Urshela has come in and hit .323 at third base. If he had enough times at the plate, he'd be among the top five in the AL in batting. DJ LeMahieu, a National League batting champion as recently as 2016, but someone who came to the Bronx without a clearly defined position, is hitting .323 as well (ranking him fourth), with an .851 OPS.

No one in the rotation has been a disaster; in fact, no one has a WHIP that exceeds 1.300. And the Yankees are always going to have some arms in the bullpen. Domingo German has started to fulfill promise; the Yanks are 10-2 in games he's started, and he has almost a 4-1 ratio of strikeouts to walks, which isn't bad.

One important thing to mention is that Gleyber Torres cheerfully moved himself over to play shortstop, after a year as an All-Star second baseman - not that the position was foreign to him, as he was hell on wheels there in the minors. And he's doing just fine, with 14 homers already.

Now he's about to move over for the guy he calls "the captain of the infield,", and he's cheerful about that too.

The Yankees were expected to have Didi Gregorius available as of Friday, as he is returning from a minor league rehab assignment, pursuant to his Tommy John surgery. Gregorius, if you recall, was setting the American League on fire early last season, with ten homers, a .327 average and a whopping 1.156 OPS by the end of April. He cooled off considerably after that, and then there was the elbow injury.

Naturally, Aaron Boone, the Yankee skipper who has to be given all the consideration in the world for the manager of the year award (unless Minnesota's Rocco Baldelli or Texas' Chris Woodward steals his thunder), is not going to work Didi to death just yet. But he needs to get into a hitting rhythm. Gregorius had just three base hits in 20 at bats in his rehab stint.

And he is leading what could be a flood of players getting back into pinstripes. The Yankees are playing the Red Sox in London at the end of June - the first time that rivalry will be conducted on an artificial surface. By that time, they could conceivably have the services of Judge, Stanton, Betances, Bird and Tulowitzki. Severino could be ready shortly after the All-Star break. And who knows - we might even see a sighting of Jacoby Ellsbury (remember him?) sometime in July. Montgomery is throwing bullpen sessions and may be back in August.

So BetAnySports patrons should take note that, as the Yankees get healthier, they'll have a pretty good idea of what their needs will be as the trade deadline approaches. Yes, we know they were not able to sign former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel (who just went to Atlanta), but I'm not sure they looked at him as more than a fourth or fifth starter, and they may not even have room for him. It would be one thing if they just had depth coming off the injured list. But there is, at the very least, an infusion of four legitimate All-Star performers. It's just a matter of how long it takes to get back into the swing of things, and it's a very scary prospect for the fans in Boston and Tampa Bay, whose teams may be relegated to playing each other in the one-off to move forward.

Gaej Walker, a converted defensive back, ran for 1115 yards to give the 'Toppers a ground game, which is important, because they run the ball 48% of the time.

Some nice edges for WKU here. They protect well (allowed 18 sacks), they are hardly ever penalized (top five in that category), they can slow down a ground game, and they're very tough in the red zone. Dragic has responded by averaging 21.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists in the playoffs. One thing you can expect is for this to be largely a half-court series. The Heat was 27th in the "Pace" category, while Boston was 17th. But the Celts played to a Pace of 96.1 against Toronto, which had more fast-break points than anybody this season, so they wouldn't mind at all being "deliberate." That might play more into Miami's hands; they were second best in the NBA in three-point percentage, and they had the highest ratio of free throw attempts to field goal attempts.

We don't pay a lot of attention to the season series between these two. Boston won two of three, but in none of these was the complete cast of characters on hand, and in each of them, Miami was playing the second end of a back-to-back.

Denver is doing a little damage at the line as well. Nikola Jokic is going to get his chances in the lane. And he may wind up shooting more threes. But Jamal Murray is attacking the basket, and that is encouraging for Michael Malone's squad.

No, the second unit doesn't appear to be Denver's friend here.

This has to be the "all-in" game for them, so I am not sure they are going to fiddle around getting cute with defensive lineups that are designed to thwart LeBron, for example. I can see them sacrificing defense for some offense, and as it is, that defense hasn't prevented the Lakers from shooting almost 49%, which is better than their league-leading percentage. I'd have to really lean heavily to the OVER on this one.
