Utah Hockey Club vs Winnipeg Jets Betting Pick & Prediction 1/24/25

The culmination of Saturday’s race card at Fair Grounds in New Orleans is the G2 Louisiana Derby. Generally, this is a big prep race for the Kentucky Derby, but the Derby has been pushed back to the first weekend of September because of the coronavirus outbreak.

That being said, this is still a loaded race with tons of competitors that will hope to run for the roses on September 5. The 12th and final race on Saturday is slated for 5:40 p.m. ET and features a lot of talented horses, trainers, and jockeys in search of a piece of the $1 million purse and a good start to the second leg of the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

The winner of this race is assured a spot in the Kentucky Derby, so long as an injury or illness doesn’t arise. This event has Kentucky Derby qualifying points on a 100-40-20-10 scale, which will be good enough to get into the main event. That is one of many reasons why 14 horses and two alternates are listed in the field.

There are always going to be favorites and second favorites in these horse races, but the odds are very spread out for the Louisiana Derby.

This is also the longest of the traditional Derby prep races at 1 3/16 miles. Closers are what we want to look for here with the extra distance.

That is a long list of runners and a great list of trainers and jockeys. We don’t see Bob Baffert’s name on the list, which is definitely surprising, but we see a lot of world-class trainers and the best jockeys in the sport. <strong>Enforceable</strong> is the favorite at 7/2, with <strong>Silver</strong><strong> State</strong> and <strong>Modernist</strong> at 6/1 as co-second favorites. With three horses at 8/1 and nobody better than 3.5/1, this sure looks like a competitive race that will take a lot of study to handicap.

Let’s run through it with some notes on each horse and see if we can come up with some picks for the main event on March 21 at Fair Grounds.

<strong>Major Fed (8/1) – </strong>The son of Ghostzapper had a good run in the Risen Star Stakes Division 2 at Fair Grounds back in February, coming up short to Modernist, who is one of the two second favorites here. Major Fed stalked the pace for most of the race and then made a huge push late over the final two furlongs. A major push of that magnitude could be needed to hit the board here with the extra distance. The question here is whether or not Major Fed can stalk a quicker pace in a stronger field. He went off at 15/1 to finish second in that race.

It was Julien Leparoux in the mount for the Risen Star. Leparoux is with Mark Casse on the favorite Enforceable, but it isn’t like Joel Rosario is a downgrade.

<strong>Mailman Money (15/1) – </strong>The Bret Calhoun/Luis Saez team becomes the Bret Calhoun/Gabriel Saez team in the Louisiana Derby. Mailman Money ran a strong fourth in the Risen Star Stakes Division 2 here back in February. He won his allowance race at Fair Grounds in January after coming down from Kentucky after a maiden special weight win at six furlongs. The distance seemed to be hurt Mailman Money a bit in the Risen Star with a late fade and an inability to keep up with the front of the pack.

This race is even longer at 1 3/16 miles, so we can probably cross this 15/1 off the board unless something has changed over the last month.

<strong>Wells Bayou (8/1) – </strong>The son of Lookin At Lucky is one of a handful of horses that did not run in the Risen Star. Instead, Brad Cox set Wells Bayou up in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, where he finished second to Silver Prospector. It was an interesting trip for Geroux, who flew out front to pace the pack and didn’t have enough in the tank to hold off the hard-charging Silver Prospector, who coasted through three-quarters of the race before making a move in the third turn.

It is tough to like Wells Bayou at this additional distance as well. The Cox/Geroux team is a good one, but Wells Bayou looked a little uncomfortable in traffic. If Geroux can’t get to the front and set the pace, this horse is likely to fade backwards. A 96 Beyer in the Southwest Stakes may be enough to get people to buy in.

<strong>Chestertown (15/1) – </strong>Anytime you see the tandem of Steve Asmussen and John Velazquez, there will be interest. This looks to be the wild card of the race. The son of Tapit is making his stakes debut here after a second and a third in two previous allowance races at Fair Grounds. That allowance race was on the undercard for the Risen Star Stakes.

Chestertown was a closer in his most recent race that came up just short of Shake Some Action, who is also in this field. There isn’t a ton of speed in this race, so Chestertown, as a closer with some speed, could be something of a surprise contender. In the final MSW race for Chestertown on a wet track at Aqueduct, the $2 million horse blew the field away over the final quarter pole. This is a closer and a strong horse with a big price tag.

<strong>Social Afleet (50/1) – </strong>One of the few horses not given much of a shot here is Social Afleet, the Dallas Stewart colt that is making its stakes debut. The last time we saw Social Afleet, it ran sixth in a race that featured Rebel Stakes runner-up Excession in third place and fellow Louisiana Derby contender Sharecropper as the winner.

This seems like one we can cross off.

<strong>Shake Some Action (15/1) – </strong>The second of Brad Cox’s two horses in the field is Shake Some Action. The son of Into Mischief, the CashCall Futurity Stakes winner in 2007 at Hollywood Park, has won back-to-back races at Fair Grounds. Both were allowance races and Shake Some Action held off the closing Chestertown at 1 1/8 miles.

Now we see what happens here. You’ve got a good team with Cox and Colby Hernandez and a solid barn with Rupp Racing. It seems like some of these 15/1 type shots could be dangerous here. I’m not sure this is one of them, but the signs are there if everything comes together.

<strong>Sharecropper (20/1) – </strong>Albert Stall Jr. and Miguel Mena are stepping up in class here with Sharecropper. The son of Pioneerof the Nile won his maiden at Churchill Downs, a race that included Excession in third, but finished fourth in the allowance on the Risen Star Stakes undercard that featured winner Shake Some Action and place Chestertown.

Getting bunched up wasn’t kind to Sharecropper in that race and could be his primary problem in this race. This is a horse with good speed, but he needs to be unencumbered as much as possible. In a race with 14 horses, that seems unlikely. There were only eight in his allowance race and nine in his maiden, which also included Social Afleet in sixth.

<strong>Royal Act (10/1) – </strong>Royal Act will get some pub on Saturday. In case we need a reminder of how old we’ve gotten recently, Royal Act is the first true Kentucky Derby contender to come from American Pharoah. Royal Act is in his third stakes race already after finishing fifth at Santa Anita in the Eddie Logan Stakes on turf and then second in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes on dirt last month. He was second to Thousand Words in the 1 1/16 mile race out on the west coast. Thousand Woods is lined up for the Wood Memorial.

Royal Act comes east to Fair Grounds after finishing second by half a head over High Velocity at 18/1 in a race with a 5/2, a 5/1, and a 3/5. It took a big effort from both jockey and horse to get up into second and it almost didn’t happen with a wide trip on the frontstretch. Royal Act stayed neck-and-neck with a coasting Thousand Words throughout the race. One was good enough to win, one wasn’t, but Thousand Words is a pretty serious Derby contender.

Even through the Peter Eurton and Abel Cedillo tandem isn’t on par with the others in this race, Royal Act is going to be a buzz horse on Saturday because of the American Pharoah bloodline.

<strong>Portos (8/1) – </strong>Tapit. Todd Pletcher. Irad Ortiz Jr. Portos makes the trip from New York to the Big Easy after finishing third in the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct back on February 1. Portos’s third-place finish is hard to accurately gauge. Portos was seven lengths back at a half-mile and made a strong charge on the frontstretch for third. Max Player dusted the other hopefuls, who all pulled up and Portos rolled past on the middle of the track to win a photo for third.

All in all, it wasn’t a great trip. Maybe Ortiz has a better ride in him than Jose Lezcano did. Portos showed good endurance with the close, but also ran away from the pack, as there were two groups of three-wide for most of the race. Stuck in the middle here of a larger field, Portos doesn’t make the cut, despite the big names in his stable.

<strong>Enforceable (7/2) – </strong>Enforceable has the most data points for us to check out and most of them have been strong, so we have our favorite for the Louisiana Derby. The most notable data points for Enforceable have come in his last four races. He was third in the Breeders’ Cup Futurity at Keeneland last October. He was fourth in the Kentucky Jockey Club at Churchill a month later, where he fell short to Silver Prospector, Finnick the Fierce, and Tiz the Law.

It is the last two performances for Enforceable that have made him the favorite. He won the Lecomte Stakes right here at Fair Grounds over Silver State and Mr. Monomoy. He was distant second to Mr. Monomoy and just ahead of Silver State in the Risen Star Stakes.

In the Lecomte Stakes, Enforceable stayed out of traffic, found a lane, and powered through, while Mr. Monomoy pulled up a bit after having to fight through the field to get out front. Silver State rode the outside to second. Enforceable is a great horse and showed good closing speed. A favorite? Sure. A can’t-miss horse? We’ll have to see.

<strong>Ny Traffic (15/1) – </strong>A methodical third-place finish in the Risen Star Stakes has Ny Traffic in this field with a 15/1 price. This is a tough spot for Ny Traffic. This is a decent speed horse, but doesn’t have the same burst as Modernist and Silver State in the quest to get inside. Ny Traffic had enough endurance to be a consistent threat in the Risen Star, but this will be a harder field to navigate.

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. will opt for blinkers here. Right now, Luis Saez is listed in the irons, but Javier Castellano would be available if Farmington Road doesn’t sneak into the field based on scratches. Castellano had the mount in the Risen Star.

<strong>Lynn</strong><strong>’s Map (30/1) – </strong>We remember the Tyler Gaffalione and Mark Casse team from War of Will during last year’s Triple Crown. Lynn’s Map is not on that level. A fifth in the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn and a sixth in the Risen Star in a return to Fair Grounds after winning an allowance in December don’t bode well for this horse.

One of the few horses we can scratch off the list.

<strong>Silver</strong><strong> State (6/1) – </strong>A tough draw here for Silver State, who has shown inconsistent speed in the Risen Star and the Lecomte. Silver State got to ride Enforceable’s draft in the Lecomte to second place when Mr. Monomoy scaled back. In the Risen Star, neither Enforceable nor Silver State had the speed to challenge Modernist. Silver State has to make a big move from the outside and that will take some time.

Silver State has impressive Equibase numbers, going 96, 94, 99 in the last three races, but this is a wide field and you wonder if Silver State can close with enough speed.

<strong>Modernist (6/1) – </strong>Modernist also draws an unfavorable post all the way out in 14th. It is a long, arduous run to the first turn and that is what takes so many of these outside horses off of the pace. On the other hand, Modernist could break well and would then be a consistent threat. This isn’t as much about the horse as it is about Junior Alvarado.

It was an easy trip in the Risen Star Division 2. Modernist had the rail and rode the rail the entire way. Not having to spend any energy throughout most of the race allowed Modernist to hold off any challengers and even get some distance on the final stretch. Alvarado won’t have that luxury here, unless he can take the wide turn and get to the rail.

<strong>Alternates: Mr. Big News (20/1) &amp; Farmington Road (12/1) – </strong>Farmington Road looks like the better of the two horses, especially if we get the Castellano/Pletcher tandem. We could see a scratch and it wouldn’t be a big surprise, but neither one of these horses looks likely to factor if they are in the field.

<strong>Picks</strong>

Whoo boy, this could be a really wide-open race. Enforceable might be the least flawed of all of the horses with consistent numbers against top competition. Royal Act looks to be trending up, particularly with a career-high speed figure in its first dirt race. Wells Bayou is also trending up with some big figures in the last two races. Major Fed is also on a good trend line as well, but does switch to Rosario here, so we’ll have to see how that plays.

Enforceable is also a closer that can finish at this distance, so the 10 makes the card. So, too, does Wells Bayou, who draws a better post position as the 3 than the contenders on the outside. Silver State has a good chance to be a closer here from the 13 post. Royal Act from the 8 also looks like a horse on the rise with the bloodline of one of the sport’s greatest, but I need to see it a second time on dirt here, so I’m going to hold off on adding to exotics for now.

UTSA Roadrunners vs North Texas Mean Green Betting Pick & Prediction 2/24/24

We’ve got quite a fun Sunday lined up in college hoops with a ton of games and some really interesting matchups. We’ve got a handful of conference clashes on the docket as well, as teams position themselves for what they hope will be some meaningful games in February and March.

We’ve also got a non-conference game of interest in the primetime window tonight. That will be the spotlight game for us here at BangTheBook in Game 741/742 between the Saint Louis Billikens and the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

<a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>BetOnline Sportsbook</strong></a> lists Saint Louis at -2.5 with a total of 146. There hasn’t been much movement on the side from the overnights, but the total has gone up a point. This one starts at 8:30 p.m. ET and can be found on FS1 from Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

We’ll preview the game and break it all down with a free pick at the end.
<h3><strong><u>Saint Louis</u></strong><strong><u> Billikens</u></strong></h3>
A Billiken is said to be a “good luck figure” and was a creation of art teacher and illustrator Florence Pretz back in the early 1900s. So far, Travis Ford’s team has found lots of good fortune this season, though the Billikens have made their own breaks as well.

Saint Louis is off to a 6-0 start, including impressive wins over LSU and North Carolina State. This will be the team’s first appearance outside of Chaifetz Arena on the SLU campus, so we’ll see if the travel has any impact. It certainly could, as Saint Louis is third in the nation at 44.6% from 3 and 42nd in the nation at 56.3% from 2. Shooting numbers tend to be lower in road and neutral settings, simply because the sightlines and the shooting backdrops are a lot different.

Saint Louis is eighth in eFG% on offense at 59.5% and also 15th in OReb% at 37.9%. They haven’t missed many shots and they’ve gotten back a lot of their misses. Against NC State last time out, Saint Louis had 15 offensive rebounds and a 53-26 edge on the glass overall.

Early-season stats can be misleading. Against SIU Edwardsville, Arkansas Pine Bluff, and Central Arkansas, Saint Louis had TO% on defense of 33.5, 30.6, and 35.6. They rank 39th in the nation in TO% at 23.8%, but against their three top opponents, they had a 13.6% TO% against LSU, an 18.1 against Indiana State, and a 10.2 last time out against NC State.

That’s not to say that the Saint Louis defense is bad, it’s simply to say that they haven’t forced nearly as many turnovers against the three top-100 teams that they’ve played. For all of Minnesota’s early-season flaws, they are a top-100 team.

<h3><strong><u>Minnesota</u></strong><strong><u> Golden Gophers</u></strong></h3>
Minnesota will look to rebound from the first setback of the season. It was a pretty big setback, a 91-65 loss to Illinois in Champaign. Like Saint Louis in this spot, that was the first road game for Minnesota and it looked like it, as they scored a season-low .802 points per possession. The Golden Gophers were just 19-of-69 from the floor, while Illinois shot 34-of-64 from the field.

Prior to that, it hadn’t been the most impressive start to the season for Richard Pitino’s team anyway. In a second consecutive game against Loyola Marymount following a 15-point win, the Golden Gophers only won by three. They needed overtime to beat Boston College at home. It is a bottom-line business, but lackluster shooting numbers have hurt in the early going.

Minnesota has taken terrific care of the basketball and ranks 14th in TO% on offense. The Gophers have also gotten to the line a ton thus far, but that usually requires a lead, something that they may not have in this game. Minnesota is only shooting 28.5% from 3, which is how this game could get away from them. Saint Louis has been a sharp-shooting team from distance to this point.

This is an extremely experienced Minnesota team, but how much does experience matter when the team finished 15-16 with an 8-12 record last season? Interestingly enough, though, when everything came crashing down for the 2019-20 season, Minnesota was the 27th-ranked team by Bart Torvik, despite the losing record.
<h3><strong><u>Pick &amp; Analysis</u></strong></h3>
We are going to find out a lot about both teams here. Saint Louis is leaving home for the first time and Minnesota has a crack against a high-quality foe. My play here is on the under. Both SLU and Minnesota are playing faster than they previously did, which I don’t think is a big tempo change, rather a commentary on who the teams have played.

Saint Louis’s shooting numbers should regress hitting the road and Minnesota’s tempo should slow down as they keep going forward. Wait on this one, though, as it seems like the total is going to rise. I have to take the under at 146, but I think you can do better by being patient.

The Saints' running game averaged 4 yards per attempt, and they converted on 53.8% of their third down attempts. However, the offense took one sack and couldn't find the endzone through the passing game.</p><p>In their 26-24 loss to the Falcons, the Saints' defense gave up 227 passing yards and 88 rushing yards on just 15 attempts. They held the Falcons to a 36.4% third-down conversion rate and didn't allow any passing touchdowns, but did come up with one interception. New Orleans allowed just 60% of passes to be completed against them.<p></p>The Saints' defense managed only one sack in the game and had a tackles for loss differential of -2. Despite this, they kept the Falcons out of the endzone through the air and limited them to 315 total yards.</p><h3>Are The Chiefs Going To Defend Home Field Advantage?</h3><p>After falling behind 10-0 in their most recent game against the Chargers, the Chiefs rallied to score 17 unanswered points and remain undefeated with a 17-10 win. The Chiefs are now 4-0 on the season, but they had to come from behind in this one, as Ladd McConkey caught a touchdown pass from Justin Herbert early to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead, followed by a Cameron Dicker field goal.</p><p></p><p>Xavier Worthy's touchdown reception from Patrick Mahomes in the 2nd quarter brought the Chiefs within 10-7, and a Harrison Butker field goal tied the game at 10 heading into the 4th. In the 4th quarter, Samaje Perine's 2-yard touchdown run sealed the comeback for Kansas City.</p><p>Patrick Mahomes threw for 245 yards on 19 completions in the Chiefs' 17-10 win over the Chargers. Mahomes' lone touchdown pass went to Travis Kelce, who led the team with 89 yards receiving. Mahomes was sacked three times and threw one interception.</p><p></p><p>Kansas City's offense managed just 16 first downs and 101 rushing yards on 26 attempts. Mahomes completed 65.5% of his passes and the Chiefs converted 56.2% of their third down attempts.</p><p>In their most recent game, the Chiefs' defense allowed just 169 passing yards on 16 completions to the Chargers. They also held the Chargers to just 55 yards rushing on 24 attempts. The Chiefs' defense was tough on third downs, allowing only a 30.8% conversion rate and giving up just one touchdown in their 17-10 win. They also finished with two sacks and held the Chargers to 224 total yards.<p></p><p>The Chiefs' defense made life difficult for the Chargers, limiting them to 6.3 yards per attempt in the passing game. Additionally, Kansas City defended the run well, allowing only 2.3 yards per attempt. The Chiefs also had a good day in the trenches, finishing with six more quarterback hits than the Chargers and three more tackles for loss.</p>

New Orleans Saints vs Kansas City Chiefs Betting Pick & Prediction 10/7/24

The last full points event until the New Year is this weekend’s RSM Classic at Sea Island Resort on St. Simons Island in Georgia. There are a lot of locals in this event and those guys are sure to be popular with the DFS crowd. Being local hasn’t led to as many good performances as you would expect on what is a tricky course. There are a lot of hazards and some marshy rough areas that are going to be virtually unplayable, so you really want to look at guys that hit fairways and hit greens, even if they don’t hit the ball quite as far.

This is a weak field with only one of the top 30 from the FedEx Cup playoffs on hand, which means that some talented, but inconsistent, players are at the top of the board. You’ve gotta dig this week and we’re here with a few shovels to help unearth the top value picks.

<strong>Brian Harman ($8,000) – </strong>Brian Harman is getting a little more respect here than he is in the betting markets, where he is a +6000 long shot to take down the title. Harman hasn’t played all that well so far this season, but he was one of the co-favorites for this tournament last year. Now you can get him at 60/1 in the market and $8,000 in DraftKings formats. Harman has basically had two bad rounds per event so far. Hopefully he can eliminate those at this course. After all, Harman was fourth here last year after missing the cut each of the two previous years. This one does have some risk, but it also has some reward.

<strong>Patton Kizzire ($7,400) – </strong>How quickly we’ve forgotten that Patton Kizzire actually played the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. He hasn’t finished inside of the top 20 yet this season and has been something of a mess, but he’s managed to make all three cuts before really falling apart. He is something of a hometown kid for this one. That hasn’t been a big help yet, but he did open 66-69 last year, so he’s capable of putting himself in contention. Again, we’re taking some risks here with the first two picks, but these are two of the more accomplished guys in this weakened field.

<strong>Jason Dufner ($7,200) – </strong>Jason Dufner has made the rounds in the southeast at the premier courses down there, so he has to have a lot of familiarity with this one. Dufner finished with a final-round 64 at the OHL Classic last week, which is hopefully a sign of things to come. He had 24 birdies at Mayakoba and had a 66 and a 64 in that tournament. This is his first start at Sea Island since 2015. He was ninth that year at 10-under. This is definitely an under-the-radar option and hopefully he’ll come through for us.

<strong>Bud Cauley ($7,900) – </strong>Bud was good to us last week at Mayakoba, as he dropped 24 birdies and finished inside the top 30. With the weaker field, his salary has taken a little bit of a jump this week, but he has 44 birdies against 17 bogeys and a double over the last two events. Cauley finished eighth last year at the RSM Classic and tends to be a pretty decent coastal player. He’s not a big hitter, but he’s responsible off the tee and that goes a long way in this tournament.

<strong>Brice Garnett ($7,600) – </strong>When you talk about good coastal course guys or wind players, you don’t hear Brice Garnett’s name very often. He was exceptional last week at Mayakoba, as he sank 22 birdies against just four bogeys. Garnett hadn’t done too much before that, but maybe he just needed to get closer to water in North America. Garnett finished just inside the top 30 last year, but he did shoot an opening-round 65. Garnett’s only career win came last year in the Corales Puntacana Resort &amp; Club Championship. He actually played well in the Dell Technologies Championship before bowing out of the playoffs in the BMW Championship. But he really likes these beachy types of courses and that makes him a great grab at this price.

Free DFS Golf Picks: The 2018-19 RSM Classic

The New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings are tied for the night place in the Western Conference, four games behind No. 8 seed. Hereof, their head-to-head duel at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Wednesday night will be a pure joy to watch, as neither side can afford to lose. These two conference foes will meet for the second time this season, and the Pelicans outlasted the Kings 117-115 as 2.5-point road underdogs on January 4.

<strong>Injuries/Suspensions</strong>

The Pelicans are without J.J. Redick (hamstring) and Nickeil Alexander-Walker (wrist). The Kings miss Marvin Bagley (foot), while Jabari Parker (illness) is listed as questionable.

<strong>The Line</strong>

New Orleans opened as a slight 1.5-point fave with a total of 235.0 points at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline/">Betonline</a>, <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/bovada/">Bovada</a>, and <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betdsi/">BetDSI</a>. Don’t bother with a paltry spread and go with the money line odds. The Pelicans are -120 favorites at the moment, while the Kings are set at +100 odds to win straight up.

<strong>What's at Stake?</strong>

As I’ve mentioned in the intro, this is a huge game for both New Orleans and Sacramento. Not only they chase the playoff spot, but the Pelicans have a chance to clinch the series and earn a tiebreaker over the Kings.

<strong>The Spot</strong>

The Pelicans have won two straight games, beating Miami 110-104 as 1.5-point home favorites and Minnesota 120-107 as 7-point road favorites. New Orleans is 10-3 SU in its last 13 outings as a fave. On the other side, the Kings have dropped two of their previous three contests including a 118-113 defeat to the Raptors as 5-point home underdogs.

<strong>The Matchup</strong>

If you take a look at the stats, you’ll notice that these two teams are pretty similar in many major categories. The Pelicans score 110.8 points per 100 possessions (15<sup>th</sup> in the league) on 46.2% shooting from the field (14<sup>th</sup>) and 37.2% from beyond the arc (3<sup>rd</sup>). The Kings tally 109.7 points per 100 possessions (19<sup>th</sup>) on 45.9% shooting from the field (18<sup>th</sup>) and 36.4% from downtown (11<sup>th</sup>).

On the other side of the ball, the Pelicans and Kings allow 111.6 points per 100 possessions each (tied-18<sup>th</sup>). New Orleans is 19<sup>th</sup> in opponent field goal percentage (46.5%), while the Kings are right behind (46.8%). Also, they are tied for the 16<sup>th</sup>-best in opponent 3-point percentage (35.5%).

The main difference between these two teams is the pace. While Sacramento averages only 98.4 possessions per 48 minutes (24<sup>th</sup>), New Orleans plays at the second-fastest pace, recording 103.9 possessions per 48 minutes.

The first meeting of the season between these two teams was pretty tight for most of 48 minutes. The Pelicans had a 13-point lead with just 4:28 to go in the fourth quarter, but they allowed the Kings to get back into the game. However, J.J. Redick’s layup with 1.1 seconds remaining decided the winner, lifting the Pelicans over the Kings.

Redick will miss Wednesday’s game, and the Pelicans will mostly rely on Brandon Ingram (24.2 PPG, 6.3 RPG), Zion Williamson (23.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG), and Jrue Holiday (19.6 PPG, 6.9 APG). Zion could be an X-factor, and I’m expecting him to dominate the Kings’ frontcourt. On the other side, De’Aaron Fox (20.4 PPG, 6.8 APG) will drive the Kings’ offense, but he’ll need help from Buddy Hield (19.8 PPG, 39.5 3P%) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (14.5 PPG, 3.2 APG).

<strong>The Bets</strong>

This should be a tight game down the stretch, considering the teams’ current form and their previous encounter. Quarterback Tyhier Tyler, who's had 502 yards on the ground, suffered through a head-to-head hit against Air Force, taking him out, but he is set to play here, with Christian Anderson providing backup. It's a ball-handling job. He'll be fine. These guys are well-drilled enough to have finished 9-2 (6-4-1 ATS).

The Knights have allowed fewer passing yards than any other team in the nation, but it must be noted that their roster of opponents included many of the least productive passing teams in the country. They'll face an Air Raid-type attack from West Virginia, which is led by Bowling Green transfer Jarret Doege at quarterback. Doege threw for 2428 yards and 13 touchdowns. And there is a major rushing threat in Leddie Brown (945 yards). It is safe to say that Army hasn't faced a lot of offenses like theirs.

WVU was more than solid on defense this season, ranking sixth nationally in Total Defense at 308.6 yards a game. In the Big 12, however, they have opposed more wide-open teams for the most part. And they haven't encountered an option scheme like that of West Point. So there is the question as to whether they will be ready for something like this.

One thing we can say with a lot of certainty is that Army wants to be in this game. Monken's fury is evidence of that. And whether they are familiar with the opponent or not, they are second best in the country, allowing 14.9 points per game.
