Nobody seems to want the final playoff spot in the NHL’s West Division. The Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, and Minnesota Wild have all already punched their respective tickets to the postseason. The St. Louis Blues, Arizona Coyotes, San Jose Sharks, and Los Angeles Kings are separated by six points top to bottom in the division for the fourth and final spot.

The Blues are suffering through a difficult portion of the season and have another tough game against the Wild tonight. A big four-point game takes place between the Coyotes and Sharks tonight and that will be the spotlight game for this preview. The game is lined -110 both ways at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/bookmaker/">Bookmaker Sportsbook</a> with a total of 5.5.

With a win and a St. Louis loss, the Coyotes would leapfrog into the fourth spot. If the Sharks get the two points and a Blues loss, they’ll close the gap to three with seven games left.

<strong><u>Arizona Coyotes</u></strong>

Arizona has lost eight of its last 10. The door was open with the extreme strength of schedule difficulty for the Blues, but the Coyotes have left the door swinging in the breeze and have not walked through it. They are now -24 in goal differential on the season with the recent struggles and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Sharks on Monday in their most recent game.

Only two of the eight most recent losses have come in one-goal games, so the Coyotes haven’t even been competitive enough most nights. That 6-4 loss was the first regulation loss for the ‘Yotes in the season series, as they are 3-1-1 against the Sharks on the campaign.

The problems run deep for the Coyotes, as they can’t score enough goals at even strength and haven’t gotten very good goaltending. We’ll see if Darcy Kuemper can bounce back from his poor showing on Monday. On the heels of a shutout win over the Kings, Kuemper allowed four goals on just 11 shots and was pulled early in the second period. For the season, Kuemper has a 2.52 GAA with a .907 SV%, which simply isn’t going to get it done with the limited margin for error provided by the offense.

The high-scoring affair on Monday shouldn’t have come as a surprise. These two teams are in the bottom 10 in 5-v-5 goals against. Arizona has fared better than San Jose, but both teams have allowed a lot of high-danger scoring chances in that game situation. San Jose, however, has generated a lot more high-danger scoring chances of their own. They are actually fifth in high-danger chances for at 5-v-5. Arizona is 18th.

That means Kuemper will absolutely have to play better for Arizona to secure two points here. If it isn’t Kuemper, the onus will fall on Adin Hill, who stopped 21 of 22 shots in relief of the starter on Monday. Hill has not started since April 11 and has a 2.84 GAA and a .911 SV%.

<strong><u>San Jose Sharks</u></strong>

Monday’s win broke an eight-game losing streak for the Sharks, who are not dead yet in terms of the playoff picture. The task at hand is made a lot more difficult with four games left against Colorado and then a season finale against Vegas. Every game is a must-win when chasing a playoff spot, but this one very much falls into that category with a team ahead of San Jose in the standings.

Goaltending has been an enormous issue for the Sharks. Collectively, Martin Jones, Devin Dubnyk, Josef Korenar, and Alexei Melnichuk have combined to post a 3.42 GAA and an .896 SV%. Those are putrid numbers. None of the three goaltenders to appear in at least six games have a SV% of .900 or better. Melnichuk stopped all five shots that he faced in his nine-minute relief appearance.

It will be Korenar tonight for the Sharks, who has allowed 14 goals on 119 shots in his six games. The 23-year-old scored his first NHL win in that 6-4 decision on Monday. The Sharks haven’t gotten saves in big spots. Their high-danger save percentage is the lowest in the league at 78.48% at 5-v-5. Goaltending will be a focal point this offseason to be sure.

Along with the lowest HDSV% in the NHL, the Sharks are 29th in high-danger shooting percentage at 5-v-5. Think of that stat like performing with runners in scoring position in baseball. The best chances to score and the best chances for the opposition to score often dictate a game. For the Sharks, they’ve failed in both areas. If the season were to drag on a little longer, maybe some positive regression would come, but it’s hard to see a wild swing with so little time left.

The Sharks should be a better team than they are. The season has been a tumultuous one for them. Because of COVID-19 protocols in Santa Clara County, they weren’t able to play a legit home game until February 13. They played their first 12 games on the road. Six of their remaining eight games are at home, with only one more road trip, a visit to Denver.

<strong><u>Coyotes vs. Sharks Pick</u></strong>

The over has to be a consideration again here. We saw 10 goals on Monday and we could see another high total tonight. Korenar is an unproven commodity and the Sharks have gotten poor goaltending all season long as it is. Neither Coyotes goaltender stands out and Kuemper has been very poor in road games this season.

The over 5.5 is a decent bet, but the Sharks at -110 looks pretty good as well. While Arizona has done well against San Jose, the Sharks have a statistical profile that looks a little bit sharper and the end of that eight-game skid should breathe some life into San Jose.

<p>The 2023 college football season hasn’t even gotten underway yet, but it’s never a bad time to start looking at college basketball odds. <a href="https://www.bangthebook.com/s/betonline/">BetOnline</a> has some NCAAB futures odds out there, and betting on the winner of the Wooden Award is going to be one of those options.</p>



<p>The Wooden Award is given to the best men’s college basketball player each year, and it’s typically a tight race. Zach Edey of Purdue was the winner of the award a season ago, and he is a pretty big favorite to repeat at the end of this season.</p>



<p>The odds would suggest that it would be a huge upset for anyone outside of Edey to win this award, but that’s exactly what will happen. Here is a look at the top contenders for the Wooden Award and the player that will take it home.</p>

<p>One quick look at the betting odds, and you will notice that this appears to be a one-man race that is going to be won by Edey. He is the huge favorite at +175, and then there is a massive gap after him.</p>



<p>There just isn’t a ton of value when betting on Edey for this award, and it’s a good idea to check into some other options. The betting odds tend to get pretty tight for a while after Edey, and that is where there will be a ton of movement as well:</p>

<p>There are some great players on this list, but there aren’t as many major names as you will see in some other years. It doesn’t look like there is a clear future NBA star in college basketball, at least not when looking at the Wooden Award winner odds.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-why-edey-won-t-win">Why Edey Won’t Win</h2>



<p>Zach Edey won the 2023 Wooden Award after guiding the Purdue Boilermakers to a near-perfect regular season. Edey averaged 22.9 points and 12.3 rebounds per game a season ago and was a dominant force inside of the Big Ten Conference.</p>



<p>Voters are going to remember though, that Purdue was upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by a 16-seed, and that’s going to hang over Edey’s head all season long. There are also other players on this team that are looking for their moment to shine, and they won’t want Edey to get all of the attention.</p>



<p>The numbers that Edey will put up during the 2023-24 college basketball season will be great, but it’s time for voters to pick someone else to win this award.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-pick">The Pick</h2>



<p>If you are going to bet on someone else to win the Wooden Award this season, then you are automatically going to get some great betting odds. The odds drop off in a big way after Edey, and that’s another reason to target a different player.</p>



<p>Hunter Dickinson is going to be a top candidate for the award in 2023-24, as he is set to lead the Kansas Jayhawks to a great season. Kansas has been known to produce some Wooden Award winners, and taking a look at Dickinson at +700 isn’t a bad play.</p>



<p>The real winner of the Wooden Award in 2023-24 will be Tyler Kolek of Marquette, and he was in the mix a season ago. Marquette should be one of the best teams in the country, and taking Kolek at +2500 is going to be the bet to make.</p>

Manhattan Jaspers vs Fairfield Stags Betting Pick & Prediction 2/4/24

A star-studded field will tee it up on Wednesday night for most of us with the WGC-HSBC Champions event at Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai, China. You’ll have to get your lineups in early as the last event of the Asian swing gives way to a lot of fall events that the top pros wind up skipping. Nineteen of the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking will be on hand and that means that some really good players are going to come in at really good prices.

With some players stopping at TPC Summerlin, but most taking it easy for the holidays, this will be the last we see a lot of these guys, so we should get a big effort from all involved, especially with a $10 million purse and a $1.8 million first-place prize.

We’ll dig down the board for some top value options for this event and for all the events this golf season.

<strong>Value Picks</strong>

<strong>Ian Poulter ($8,600) – </strong>Ian Poulter hasn’t played at Sheshan in a couple of years, but he was strong at the end of the 2017-18 season and vaulted himself far enough up the ranks to get back into this rather prestigious field. Poulter won this event the last year it was just a European Tour event in 2012 and then finished second to Dustin Johnson in 2013 when the PGA Tour recognized it as a tournament that should be an annual stop. Poulter was 10th last week in South Korea and only had six bogeys over his four rounds. Poulter played well around the greens last week and that is exactly the type of skill set needed this week.

<strong>Xander Schauffele ($8,100) – </strong>It’s time to go back to Xander Schauffele. Schauffele was barely inside the top 50 last week, but he did go low on Sunday along with the rest of the field with a 65. He was only 25th at the CIMB Classic, but he had two eagles and 20 birdies against just nine bogeys. Schauffele plays his best golf in the strongest fields. It’s just one of those things for him. He was second at the Players, sixth at the US Open, second at The Open Championship, top-10 in the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship, and actually won the Tour Championship two years ago. The brighter the lights, the better he plays, and the lights are pretty bright for WGC events.

<strong>Kyle Stanley ($7,600) – </strong>It wasn’t pretty last week at the CJ Cup, but we got a little bit of value because of that on Kyle Stanley. Stanley opened with a top-15 at the CIMB Classic. He opened with a 72, but was terrific the rest of the way with a 68-66-64 run over his last 54 holes. Stanley was fifth here in his first start at Sheshan last year. Stanley didn’t putt well at the CIMB or at the CJ Cup, which is a bit of a concern at this course, but he was excellent early in the year last year and also played stellar golf in WGC events. He was solid at the Dell Match Play and second at the Bridgestone. He’s a good grab this week at a favorable price.

<strong>Cameron Smith ($8,200) – </strong>For the most part, this has worked well for us. Through two 2018-19 events, Smith has averaged 95 points at mostly reasonable salaries. With the strength of this week’s field, he’s a pretty good bargain once again. Smith has fired seven of his eight rounds in the 60s and was seventh last week at the CJ Cup in his tune-up for this one. Smith wasn’t rated well enough to get into this event last year, which was a shame because he was fifth at the CIMB and third at the CJ Cup before it. The fact that he couldn’t play probably gives us a little bit of value this week, since he would have been expected to put up good scores and probably would have done so. Without course form data, and with a stronger field, we’re likely saving a few hundred bucks on him.

<strong>Wu Ashun ($6,800) – </strong>Listed as Wu Ashun on DraftKings and A-Shun Wu on the ESPN leaderboard, this is a great value play on a guy that has played well in his home country in this event in the past. Ashun was 20th last year, 23rd in 2016, even par in 2015, and 14th in 2014. Ashun won the KLM Open last month on the European Tour, so he’s not exactly coming in here cold. He was also sixth the previous week in the Omega European Masters. He’s a great grab at a low price if you want to load up on some of the top names.

The Yellow Jackets' ground game was particularly strong, with 225 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
