The calm before the storm. That seems like a good way to describe UFC on ESPN 12. It isn’t a bad card by any means, but it certainly doesn’t have three title fights like UFC 251 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The Fight Island card has a lot more big matchups and more general intrigue, but that doesn’t mean bettors should bypass the UFC on ESPN 12 card.

This one will be held at the UFC APEX once again with a main event between Dustin Poirier and Dan Hooker. There are 11 fights on the card in total, which can be seen in its entirety on ESPN. Only the last four fights are on the “main” card, so we’ll dig a little deeper on those, but cover all 11 matches.

Featherweights <strong>Jordan Griffin </strong>and <strong>Youssef Zalal</strong> start things off at 145 pounds in what will be the second career UFC fight for Zala and the fourth for Griffin. Zalal has been moved to a slight -115 favorite with a total of 2.5 heavily juiced to -170 on the over. This is a step down for Griffin, whose UFC career has included losses to Dan Ige and Chas Skelly. Griffin did beat TJ Brown for his first win, but it hasn’t garnered a ton of favor in the markets. Zalal beat Austin Lingo to improve to 8-2 in his MMA career. Both fighters spent ample time in LFA, but never crossed paths until now.

After that opening toss-up fight, we get our first women’s fight. It will be <strong>Jinh Yu Frey</strong> and <strong>Kay Hansen</strong> at 115 pounds. This is the UFC debut for both ladies, as they each make the leap from Invicta. Hansen is just 6-3 in her career, but she has been installed as the -145 favorite here. The total is -300 on over 2.5, so that isn’t really an option for this one. The 35-year-old Frey was the champ in LFA, but it was controversial and she failed to make weight in her title defense. Hansen, meanwhile, is only 20 and just at the start of her career. Who knows what we’ll get from these two, as both bring questions to the Octagon.

<strong>Takashi Sato</strong> will try to get back over .500 in the UFC in his fight against <strong>Ramiz Brahimaj</strong>. Sato is 1-1 with a win over Ben Saunders and a loss to Belal Muhammad. Brahimaj is making the jump from LPA as well, where he suffered both of his losses. He is 8-2 and all eight wins have been via submission. Sato is more of a KO artist and has tapped out twice. Sato is the -130 favorite for a stronger body of work, but the way to probably look at this fight is Sato by KO/TKO or Brahimaj by sub. Sato has three decision wins to his name and none in his last eight fights.

A catchweight fight at 150 pounds will follow between <strong>Kyle Nelson</strong> and <strong>Sean Woodson</strong>. Woodson is a perfect 7-0, including a Dana White Contender Series win and a unanimous decision triumph over Kyle Bochniak. The 28-year-old Woodson is long and lanky for this division at 6-foot-2 and he has a big reach advantage over Nelson. That would seem to be part of the -245 line on the favorite here. The total is 2.5 with the over at -125. Nelson is 1-2 in the UFC to this point, with a knockout win over Polo Reyes last time out back in September. The size advantage may be too much for him to overcome here.

The first of two heavyweight fights on the card features <strong>Philipe Lins </strong>and <strong>Tanner Boser</strong>. The 34-year-old Lins lost his UFC debut to Andrei Arlovski in a stand-up fight. Lins was the champ in PFL when he made the move to UFC, but he didn’t showcase a whole lot of striking power or fight IQ in the loss to the veteran Arlovski. Boser is 1-1 in her UFC career, with both fights going the distance. He managed to stay away from Ciryl Gane long enough to go the distance, but lost 30-26 on each card and took some punishment. Lins is -115 here in a rare heavyweight fight juiced -225 to the over 2.5. Neither fighter seems like a great bet here. This is a true toss-up.

<strong>Miranda Maverick</strong> may have the best fighting name in the women’s division. The 22-year-old will make her UFC debut against <strong>Mara Romero Borella</strong>. This is a quick turnaround for Borella, who just lost to Cortney Casey on May 16. She has dropped four of her last five fights. As a result, Maverick, despite her relative inexperience, is the -300 favorite. Maverick had some issues making weight earlier in her career, but she’ll fight at 125 pounds here and is a big favorite for a reason. She looks like a promising prospect.

The last fight on the “prelim” card features <strong>Luis Pena</strong> and <strong>Khama Worthy</strong>. Pena is a -270 favorite here with a total of 2.5 juiced to the under at -120. Pena has won three of his last four fights and his lone loss was by split decision against Matt Frevola. Worthy is only fighting for the second time in UFC, but his upset win over Devonte Smith drew rave reviews. Pena is certainly more accomplished and should win, but +230 on a scrappy underdog like Worthy isn’t a bad gamble.

<strong>Gian Villante (+195) vs. Maurice Greene (-235); Total: 2.5 (140/-160)</strong>

Gian Villante is jumping up a weight class here to fight Maurice Greene. Villante has generally fought as a light heavyweight, but he’ll fight as a heavyweight in this one. Villante got knocked out by Michal Oleksiejczuk on February 23 and will now give it a try in the heavyweight division. Villante joined the UFC in 2013 and is just 7-8 in 15 fights.

Maurice Greene has lost his last two fights to Aleksey Oleinik and Sergei Pavlovich. In theory, the 34-year-old Villante should be a little quicker than Greene’s more recent opponents, so we’ll see how he handles that. Greene also hasn’t shown enough knockout power in his MMA career. He only has two knockouts in his eight wins. He’s had a few submissions, but most of those came earlier in his career. Green’s best effort came against Junior Albini last June, but his last two losses don’t inspire a lot of confidence.

<strong>Pick: Gian Villante</strong>

<strong>Kyle Daukaus (+250) vs. Brandon Allen (-300); Total: 1.5 (-130/110)</strong>

Undefeated Kyle Daukaus will make the leap from CFFC to the UFC for his official promotional debut against Brandon Allen. Daukaus was no stranger to Dana White, as he won by unanimous decision on the Contender Series over Michael Lombardo. Daukaus nearly got the submission there, but time ran out. Otherwise, Daukaus has eight submission wins in nine fights. His opponent, Brendan Allen, has eight submission wins in his career. He also has five knockouts, including one over Tom Breese in his most recent fight.

The former LFA champ is a very dangerous fighter. At 24, he already has 17 fights under his belt and has won 14 of them, including each of his last six. All three of his losses have come against fighters now in the UFC. His fist loss was to Trevin Giles. His next one was to Eryk Anders and his most recent loss was to Anthony Hernandez. He should win here and win by submission.

<strong>Pick: Brendan Allen</strong>

<strong>Mickey Gall (+255) vs. Mike Perry (-310); Total: 1.5 (-125/105)</strong>

Another big favorite on the main card here with Mike Perry, who is over $3 against Mickey Gall. Perry has lost three of his last four fights, but he’s lost to Geoff Neal, Vicente Luque, and Donald Cerrone in that span. Gall got some notoriety for beating Sage Northcutt back in 2016, but has split his four fights since and hasn’t really been able to advance much in the division.

The big line here implies that Perry will do what he does best. Get into his opponent’s head and then throw until he can’t throw anymore. Gall was knocked out by Diego Sanchez two fights ago, so we know that he is capable of losing in that manner, give that he has never tapped out. The 1.5 is a fair line, but the -125 might not be high enough. While Perry is a finisher to a degree, three of his last five fights have gone the distance.

<strong>Pick: Over 1.5</strong>

<strong>Dan Hooker (+180) vs. Dustin Poirier (-220); Total: 4.5 (200/-240)</strong>

The end to a rather mediocre card could be a good fight between Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier. Poirier is a big -220 favorite here, but the total of 4.5 suggests that we might get at least 12 minutes of action. This will be the first time we’ve seen Poirier since he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov back at UFC 242. Nurmagomedov is a world-class grappler and wrestler and that proved to be too much Poirier, who suffered his sixth career loss and second submission loss.

Hooker has won four of his last five, including an impressive win over James Vick last year and a 15-minute win over Al Iaquinta. It was a split-decision win over Paul Felder last time out in what was the Fight of the Night. Many believed that Felder won that fight, but the judges went in a different direction with the New Zealand-born Hooker in Auckland.

Poirier should win the fight. This isn’t Khabib. This isn’t Conor McGregor, who has one of Poirier’s six losses. This isn’t prime Cub Swanson. Unless Poirier gets caught like he did against Michael Johnson back in 2016, he’ll win and get a really big fight next time out.

UFC on ESPN 12: Poirier vs. Hooker Betting Odds, Picks, and Predictions

Golf is a saving grace for both the DFS and betting communities to say the least right now. Gamblers from all over are flocking to golf contests and the golf section of the sportsbook. With another strong field on hand for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, expect another influx of golf enthusiasts, new and old, to the markets.

Unfortunately, fans won’t be there in Cromwell, CT for this tournament. This is one of the top events for attendance on the PGA Tour, but that could also make things interesting if the PGA Tour decides to make the rough a little more penal this week. It hasn’t been at all through the first two weeks.

What we look for at BangTheBook in this weekly DFS article are value plays. It isn’t hard to plug in Rory and DeChambeau and Simpson and Rahm and Koepka into your roster. The problem is that you run out of salary cap funds real fast when you do that. As such, our goal is to find cheap plays with high upside to help you fill out that lineup.

So, we’ll take the salaries from <a href="http://bangthebook.com/s/draftkings"><strong>DraftKings</strong> </a>and try to do that for this week’s Travelers Championship:

<strong>Brian Harman ($7,600) – </strong>We start with the Swingin’ Southpaw from Georgia, Brian Harman, who actually ranks 125th in the Official World Golf Ranking, so maybe his price is a little bit high this week. Left-handed ball flights tend to work really well at this course. Just ask three-time winner Bubba Watson. Or, you could ask Harman, who has finished in the top 10 three times in the last five years. Harman has finished 28th and 23rd in the two events since golf’s return. He did everything well last week at Harbour Town except for a few errant tee shots. This is a course that should help him with those. In 30 career rounds here, Harman is 13rd in Course History Index per DataGolf with +1.4 SG: Total when adjusted for field strength.

<strong>Max Homa ($7,000) – </strong>Max Homa did a lot of things well last week at Harbour Town. He only finished 41st, but was 12th in SG: T2G according to DataGolf. Homa’s problem was that he was awful with the putter. That hasn’t been a problem for him most of the season, as he ranks just outside the top 40 overall in SG: Putting. Homa missed the cut here at 1-under last year, but was actually one of the better players in SG: Approach. If he’s rolling his putts well and he’s able to hit the green, he is a player that can put up some very good numbers given how the other parts of his game are going.

<strong>Doc Redman ($6,700) – </strong>Doc Redman seemed to have found something last week. After opening with a 72, he shot a second-round 66 to make the cut and then went 65-67 over the weekend. Redman actually finished in the red in SG: Putting, but was excellent tee-to-green and on approach. To this point, he’s shot six of eight rounds at even par or better since the return and ranks in the top 25 this season in driving accuracy. The 22-year-old is still finding his way, but he’s been excellent off the tee and on approach and will get better in the putting department as the year goes along. With his T2G skills, he has a chance to rack up some points.

<strong>Matthew NeSmith ($6,600) – </strong>I usually list these by salary to make it easy, but Matthew NeSmith is my favorite pick of the week. NeSmith isn’t a long hitter, but this isn’t a course that punishes guys that are short off the tee. He ranks 38th in driving accuracy and 45th in SG: Putting. He’s 16th in GIR%. Last week, NeSmith was actually in the top 20 in SG: T2G, but it was his putter that actually failed him. He was seventh in SG: Approach. NeSmith really did it all except putt last week and that is usually one of the stronger parts of his game. This will be his first start here, but that doesn’t worry me.

<strong>Joseph Bramlett ($6,600) – </strong>Joseph Bramlett has finished in the top five each of the last two weeks on the Korn Ferry Tour. Now he returns to the PGA Tour for the Travelers. Bramlett missed the cut at the Honda Classic back in late February, but he played well with a T9 at the Puerto Rico Open and finished in the top 20 at the AT&amp;T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Bramlett has been a birdie machine the last couple of weeks in the Korn Ferry. He’s been peppering fairways and racking up GIRs. Obviously the PGA Tour is a bit tougher and the courses are more challenging, but good form can take you a long way right now with so many players trying to find theirs.

Brooklyn Nets vs Los Angeles Clippers Betting Pick & Prediction 1/15/25

The fight cards just keep on coming for the UFC. We’re back at Fight Island for the third time in a week, this time for a card highlighted by a main event rematch between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo. The card also features Jack Hermansson vs. Kelvin Gastelum in a middleweight fight that is main event level as well.

Let’s not waste any time digging into the fight odds at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>BetOnline Sportsbook</strong></a> for the Saturday July 18 card. Once again, with no fans in attendance, this one will start bright and early in Dubai so that it can be shown in primetime for the United States crowd.

We start with <strong>Sergey Spivac</strong> as a -175 favorite in his fight against <strong>Carlos Felipe</strong>. This will be the UFC debut for Felipe, who comes in at 8-0 for his career, but has not fought since May 20, 2017. Spivac (or Spivak) is 1-2 in his UFC career, with an impressive win over Tui Tuivasa, but losses to Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura. Basically, he was caught by Harris with the step up in class and the veteran Tybura put on a clinic. Felipe is only 25 and this is the right type of fight for Spivac to win. He’s a good open parlay piece to start the card.

<strong>Davi Ramos</strong> is +175 in the lightweight division against <strong>Arman Tsarukyan</strong>. The favored Tsarukyan is 1-1 in his UFC career to this point, with a loss in his debut to Islam Makhachev and a win over Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Ramos has been a UFC fixture for a while and it is interesting to see Tsarukyan such a big favorite here, given that Ramos, who also has a loss to Makhachev, had won four straight fights after his debut loss to Sergio Moraes. Ramos looks like a live dog in a fight that appears likely to go to the cards with the over 2.5 at -240.

The first of three flyweight fights will feature a couple UFC debutants in <strong>Malcolm Gordon</strong> and <strong>Amir Albazi</strong>. Albazi is the -160 favorite against Gordon. This fight was a late addition to the card, so it remains a circled fight at time of writing with lower limits than a regular UFC fight at this point. Gordon is 12-3 in his career with 10 finishes, which is a lot for a flyweight. Albazi has 11 finished with his 12-1 record. This is a big opportunity for both fighters. Albazi does have Bellator fights on his resume, which is part of the reason why he is the clear favorite in this fight, but we have a lot to learn about these two.

We should get a good bantamweight fight here between <strong>Brett Johns</strong> and <strong>Montel Jackson</strong>. Jackson is a clear -205 favorite with another one expected to go to the judges with the over 2.5 at -260. Johns has been a decision machine in his career. Eight of his 16 wins are finishes, including his most recent effort against Tony Gravely, but he is 8-2 in decisions for his career. Jackson has won back-to-back unanimous decisions to improve to 9-1. He’s got the size edge here, but it’s also worth noting that the two losses for Johns are excellent fighters in Aljamain Sterling and Pedro Munhoz. Jackson might win, but this price is too big. The underdog is worthy of a look.

The biggest favorite role on the card belongs to <strong>Joe Duffy</strong> at -340. <strong>Joel Alvarez</strong> is +280. Duffy has only fought once since November 4, 2017 and that was a loss 16 months ago to Marc Diakiese by decision. Duffy should win this fight given the odds and where he was in his career before the long layoff, but the 6-foot-3 Alvarez has a huge edge in the size department. He, too, is on an extended layoff, with his most recent fight back on June 1, 2019, but it was a win over Danilo Belluardo. Both guys have racked up submission wins in their careers, so this one will be about top control. Alvarez is in just his third UFC fight, but, again, this line looks too high with a vulnerable favorite.

<strong>Nad Narimani</strong> and <strong>Grant Dawson</strong> will fight at a catchweight limit of 150 pounds. Dawson has been impressive with a 3-0 official record in UFC, including two submission wins. He got his shot on the first season of the Dana White Contender Series and has not looked back. He is a hefty -230 favorite here against Narimani, who was the champ in CWFC before making the leap to UFC. He is 2-1 in his three fights, but Dawson will be the best opponent he has faced to date. This is a fight where the favorite looks like the side, making this another open parlay piece to put with Spivac.

<strong>Khadis Ibragimov</strong> is 0-2 in the UFC after being the light heavyweight champ in M-1. Da Un Jung and Ed Herman have the two wins over him. He should be set up for his first win here against <strong>Roman Dolidze</strong>, who comes over from the WWFC. His most recent fight was December 15, 2018. Or is he? Dolidze is a -160 favorite for his UFC debut. This line seems to be loaded with recency bias, as Ibragimov hasn’t looked good, but he’s fought two veteran fighters. Dolidze is more on his level. This feels like a lot more of a toss-up than the line would suggest. After all, Ibragimov was also undefeated before starting in the UFC.

<strong>Askar Askarov (+170) vs. Alexandre Pantoja (-200); Total: 2.5 (-240/190)</strong>

Flyweights Askar Askarov and Alexandre Pantoja get together for the first fight on the main card. We’ve got a heavily-juiced total to the over here, as both of Askarov’s UFC fights have gone the distance, but Pantoja has been a good finisher throughout is career and each of his last three UFC wins have come via first-round stoppage.

Askarov is 11-0 in his career and has 10 finishes in that span, so why are we looking at +190 on the 2.5 here? This fight should be full of fireworks. If Pantoja is going to win, wouldn’t a stoppage victory be the preferred method, given that he is only 6-4 in decisions in his career? Neither guy has been stopped in a losing effort, but these are two strong strikers in the division with better size than most flyweights.

<strong>Pick: Under 2.5</strong>

<strong>Luana Carolina (-102) vs. Ariane Lipski (-118); Total: 2.5 (-350/275)</strong>

Luana Carolina lost her first professional MMA fight by a split decision. She is a perfect 6-0 since then, with three wins by stoppage and three wins by decision. She’ll take that six-fight win streak into this matchup against Ariane Lipski. Carolina was victorious last time out for her first UFC win against Priscila Cachoeira. She almost scored a stoppage win after a big left kick to the head of Cachoeira. She dominated the fight.

But this is a major step up in class against Lipski, a veteran of 17 career fights. It took her some time to get to the UFC, where she is 1-2 in three fights, but she’s a deserving favorite here. Lipski got off to a bad start in her UFC debut against Joanne Calderwood. Molly McCann is a solid, experienced fighter. She looked better against Isabela de Padua, but that isn’t a household name. This is a big fight for Lipski, who needs to win matches like this.

<strong>Pick: Ariane Lipski</strong>

<strong>Rafael Fiziev (+135) vs. Marc Diakiese (-155); Total: 2.5 (-200/160)</strong>

Marc Diakiese was originally set to face Alan Patrick here, but Patrick withdrew from the fight on July 14. Rafael Fiziev will slot in on short notice. We often think of the hardships put on a fighter jumping in, but what about the planning that Diakiese did for Patrick? Now he’ll have to fight a big striker in Fiziev, who has five career knockouts.

Fiziev is just 1-1 in his UFC career and Diakiese, once believed to be a can’t-miss prospect in the division, may finally be tapping into his potential with back-to-back wins. Diakiese came in undefeated and lost three straight fights in just over a year from the summer of 2017 to the summer of 2018. He is now 5-3 in the UFC and may be working his way back up the ranks a little bit. It may be a good time to buy on him when the price is still fairly low.

<strong>Pick: Marc Diakiese</strong>

<strong>Kelvin Gastelum (-108) vs. Jack Hermansson (-112); Total: 2.5 (-170/140)</strong>

Let’s be honest, this is probably more of a main event than the actual main event. This is an outstanding middleweight fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Jack Hermansson and this is a really important scrap for both fighters. Gastelum lost to Israel Adesanya on April 13, 2019 to lose the title, but it was the follow-up loss to Darren Till that hurt more. Adesanya is a world-class fighter and there is no shame in losing to him. Gastelum’s issues with weight have held him back a little bit and he was fortunate to make weight for the split-decision loss to Till.

Jack Hermansson is coming back off of a rare loss to Jared Cannonier to snap a four-fight winning streak. Hermansson has the clear size edge in this fight against Gastelum. By no means is Hermansson on Adesanya’s level, but that was a fight where the size edge had a clear-cut impact. It makes sense that Hermansson has been bet into the small favorite here.

Keep in mind that Gastelum, who was regularly appearing in main events, is just 5-5-1 in his last 11 UFC fights. He’s living on a reputation that he hasn’t really been able to uphold.

Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo will be in action for the vacant flyweight championship in this one. Figueiredo knocked out Benavidez back in February to take the title when the two met in the main event in Norfolk. Figueiredo’s ability to fight here was put into question when he tested positive for COVID-19 on July 11, but a follow-up test was a negative.

Figueiredo missed weight in the first title fight, so the title was vacated. We’ll see if he makes the cut here or not. The first fight was pretty even for the most part. Figueiredo scored the knockout win, but Benavidez was the far more active striker in the match. It marked just the second time that the 35-year-old Benavidez went down by knockout.

While the first outcome is what is fresh in everybody’s mind, Benavidez was the better striker in that fight. An upset wouldn’t be the biggest stunner here.

UFC Fight Night 172: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez 2 Betting Odds, Picks, & Predictions

The Match II has a much different feel to it. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will once again go head-to-head, but it won’t be on pay-per-view, they will have teammates, and it will be for charity.

The Champions for Charity match will take place at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Beach, Florida on Sunday May 24 with a 3 p.m. tee-off time. Tiger will be partnered with Peyton Manning and Phil will be partnered with Tom Brady. The first nine holes will be played as a four-ball event and the back nine will be played as a modified alternate shot. Coverage will be on TNT, TBS, truTV, and HLN, so it’s like the March Madness that COVID-19 took from us. For nostalgia’s sake, you should watch on truTV just so you are forced to find whatever channel number that is.

The front nine will be four-ball, so best ball, and the lowest score on the team will win the hole. On the back nine, the modified alternate shot will mean that the teams will pick the best drive of the two and then go alternate shot until the ball is in the hole.

Manning is said to be a 6 handicap and Brady is said to be an 8 handicap, which is one of the reasons why Tiger and Peyton are -185 and Phil and Tom are +155 per the odds at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/5dimes"><strong>5Dimes Sportsbook</strong></a>.

A whole bunch of different prop bets are available for this match and we’ll get to those in a little bit. First, we need to examine the course. Seminole Golf Club seemed to play much harder than the players expected this past weekend in the TaylorMade Driving Relief and the course put on a good show for potentially getting a PGA Tour event down the line. As it is, the Walker Cup will be there next year.

As far as Medalist Golf Club, this is a Greg Norman and Pete Dye design that opened in 1995. Back in 2015, Medalist added “Tiger Tees”, which were well behind the tips. In fact, that lengthened the course to 7,515 yards. This is a course that is extremely popular among PGA Tour players that use the course to get into form between events or during downtime within the season. It has to be pretty challenging based on that.

This is Tiger’s home course, which is certainly gives him an advantage. It also helps that Manning seems to be a better golfer than Brady. Over the front nine, it would be fairly shocking if the pros’ scores aren’t used on at least eight of the nine holes. The alternate shot format on the back nine is when things get really tricky. That is where Manning’s better skill set could be the deciding factor.

It has to be Tiger and Peyton -185.

On the prop betting side, there are some interesting options. Woods &amp; Manning are -160 at 5Dimes to lead after 9 holes with Mickelson &amp; Brady at +120. Woods and Manning could very well have the lead, but the first nine holes are really Tiger vs. Phil. Guessing about the form of these two guys after a long layoff is challenging, but Phil +120 here isn’t a bad grab. The risk would be for Peyton to bail Tiger out because Brady probably won’t do that for Lefty. I’d still take that risk.

Peyton Manning over/under 1.5 commercials is +140 to the over and -180 to the under at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline"><strong>BetOnline Sportsbook</strong></a>. Peyton is a pretty popular guy and has a strong sales pitch, so there might be some value to the over here. It wouldn’t be a big stunner to see a new Peyton Manning commercial make an appearance while he has center stage here.

Be careful here because this one is up to the book manager’s discretion. Something like a charitable pitch to drum up more money for COVID relief may not count, so you’ll have to keep that in mind.

Will “Omaha” be said by any player is +225 Yes and -350 No. I have to say, I think Tom Brady might just be lame enough to make an Omaha joke. Or Phil Mickelson could pull out a dad joke on a bad drive and say that Peyton hit it towards Omaha. This would be a pizza money kind of bet, but it seems like it has a decent chance of coming through.

Finally, one other prop bet of interest. Will Tiger Woods wear red? Yes is -560 at 5Dimes and No is +370. It’s Sunday. Tiger’s wearing red. Ship it. Chalky with a low limit, but it’s good enough for lunch from a fast food joint or something.

The 73rd NASCAR Cup Series season gets underway on Tuesday night with the Busch Clash and then continues on Thursday night with the Daytona Duels. We’ll take a look at the Daytona 500 in a separate article, but preview the Clash, the Duels, and the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season in this separate article.

The schedule looks a lot different this year and there are some team and rules adjustments that we need to tackle so that readers are ready for anything that gets thrown at them during the season.

We’ll start with the overall changes and then look at Tuesday and Thursday’s races.
<h3><strong><u>Schedule Changes</u></strong></h3>
NASCAR is trying to bring a more exciting product to its fans and viewers. Viewers have been bored with the standard 1.5-mile tracks where it comes down to the best equipment. This year, the drivers will run the Busch Clash on the Daytona International Speedway Road Course and the second race of the year, the Go Bowling 235, will be on the road course.

Homestead-Miami will follow as the third race of the year. The seventh race of the year will be the Food City Dirt Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, which has been transformed into a dirt oval for the first race at Thunder Valley. The second race will be the Night Race in the playoffs.

Other wrinkles include a race on the Road Course in Austin, Texas at the Circuit of the Americas on May 23. Nashville Superspeedway is a new track added to the rotation with the Ally 400 on June 20. There will be another back-to-back at Pocono on June 26-27. Road America, which has been used at the Xfinity Series level, will now be a Cup Series race on July 4 Weekend.

The race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be a Road Course race on August 15.

Dover is down to one date, with the Nashville date coming from one of the Delaware races. Kentucky Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway are not on the schedule, taking away a couple of 1.5-mile tracks. Atlanta Motor Speedway picked up one of the dates. Auto Club Speedway is not on the schedule because of COVID-19 protocols in California.

The All-Star Race has moved to Texas Motor Speedway, which now houses only one points race.
<h3><strong><u>Team &amp; Driver Changes</u></strong></h3>
Erik Jones is no longer with Joe Gibbs Racing. He’ll run for Richard Petty Motorsports in the 43 car. Bubba Wallace who was in the 43, is now in the 23 for 23XI Racing.

Ross Chastain will take over the Chip Ganassi Racing car that Matt Kenseth drove in his return last season.

Alex Bowman has moved behind the wheel of the 48, vacated by the retirement of Jimmie Johnson. Bowman is still with Hendrick Motorsports. Hendrick has also added Kyle Larson to its stable of drivers. He’ll drive the 88 of Bowman, which has been renumbered as the 5 car.

Clint Bowyer also retired. Chase Briscoe is now a full-time Cup Series driver in the 14 car for Stewart-Haas Racing.

As far as some crew chief changes, Chad Knaus has moved into an executive role for Hendrick Motorsports, so William Byron’s crew chief will now be Rudy Fugle, who comes over from Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Cliff Daniels, who was with Jimmie Johnson, is now Kyle Larson’s crew chief for Hendrick.

Ben Beshore is the new crew chief for Kyle Busch. Busch’s former crew chief, Adam Stevens, is now the crew chief for Christopher Bell.
<h3><strong><u>NASCAR Rule Changes for 2021</u></strong></h3>
NASCAR didn’t change much as far as the rules package. Darlington Raceway and Nashville Superspeedway will use the low downforce package.

Another rule change is that teams must run at least 16 points events with a short block sealed engine. The previous rule was 13.

Really, the majority of the changes for NASCAR have been related to the schedule. There is a new Next Gen Car coming in 2022, so it makes sense that NASCAR wouldn’t upset the apple cart too much this year.

The finale is at Phoenix Raceway again, so Kevin Harvick has to be the starting point for any handicap of the championship. Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin are also very worthy of sharing the co-favorite odds. It would be a surprise to see anybody outside of those three take down the title.

Those three drivers combined to win 21 of the 36 races last season. There are some new wrinkles to the schedule that could upset the balance of NASCAR, but those changes probably help Elliott and Hamlin because both are good road course racers. They may hurt Harvick, who is at his best on the oval tracks.

Brad Keselowski at +800 is about as far as I would go. NASCAR’s competitive imbalance makes it hard to take any long shots here. There really isn’t much value in holding your money into the month of November for a payout this low.

Ryan Blaney has the pole position for the 20-lap, 50-mile “All Out Sprint” with no points, but a big cash prize. The criteria for this year’s race was changed because qualifying was so limited last year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Busch Pole Award winners from the last five years, Busch Clash winners, Daytona 500 winners, Daytona 500 pole winners, playoff drivers, race winners, and stage winners are eligible, with only those that raced full-time last season. Hence the small field that we have here.

There are 14 turns on the 3.61-mile road course. It makes sense that Chase Elliott would be the favorite, as he has had plenty of road course success before. Rain has canceled this event several times before and rain is in the forecast virtually all week in Daytona Beach, so hopefully they can run this.

Elliott won the Go Bowling 235 last year on this track. Elliott won Stage 1 and then the full race. Denny Hamlin won Stage 2 and he’s the third favorite on the betting board. It is surprising to see Martin Truex Jr. listed second.

To me, Hamlin has some value at +800.
<h3><strong><u>Daytona Duels</u></strong></h3>
At time of writing, there were no odds on the Daytona Duels, but we can mention them quickly here. Joey Logano has won one of the two Duels each of the last two years. William Byron and Kevin Harvick are the others. It was Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott in 2018 and Elliott and Denny Hamlin in 2017.

The Duels are 60 laps each measuring 150 miles on the speedway track. The Duels set the starting grid for the Daytona 500, assuming they are able to be run, weather-permitting, so keep an eye on how this one goes.

Jacksonville Dolphins vs Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Betting Pick & Prediction 1/4/24

Well, it isn’t the return of the PGA Tour by any means, but we’ve got some live golf action to wager on during the TaylorMade Driving Relief skins match on Sunday May 17. The team of Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson is a -195 favorite over the team of Matthew Wolff and Rickie Fowler at <a href="http://bangthebook.com/s/betdsi"><strong>DSI Sportsbook</strong></a>.

The skins game format is quite a bit different than traditional stroke play and it is extremely important to understand the difference before you go placing your bets. The grand prize here is $3 million that will go to the charity of the winning team. Rory and DJ are playing for the American Nurses Foundation and Wolff and Fowler are playing for the CDC Foundation.

The two teams start with $500,000. Holes 1-6 are worth $50,000 each. Holes 7-16 are worth $100,000 each. The 17th hole is worth $200,000 and the 18th hole is worth $500,000. It is entirely possible that the winners of the 17th and 18th holes swing the entire match, so this could be a real sweat all the way until the end.

Additional skins money is available for birdies, eagles, holes-in-one, or double eagles. Birdies are worth $25,000, eagles are worth $50,000, and holes-in-one and double eagles are worth $150,000.

The players will not have caddies and the cups could be filled with pool noodles that prevent the ball from having to be dug out and also keep the players from having to touch the flag stick. Current rules in Palm Beach County, Florida state that golfers cannot arrive more than 20 minutes prior to the start of the round, so this thing could go off the rails in a hurry. The players won’t have a bunch of time to hit balls on the range or anything. I’m sure that they’ve been practicing, but this is going to be extremely unique and challenging in a lot of ways.

On the plus side, all four guys have places of residence in Jupiter, Florida, so they should know the course in question very well. Seminole Golf Club is not a familiar course to most fans, but this is believed to be a top-15 course in America. The Donald Ross design features a lot of wind, with shots into the wind, with the wind, with crosswinds, and with stiff ocean breezes. The course is also littered with bunkers and water hazards.

Each player is going to play his own ball and the lowest score among the team members wins the skin.

One wrinkle about Seminole Golf Club is that par 5s for the members are going to play like long-ish par 4s for the professionals. We could see some really low numbers on some of these holes. This course plays as a par 72 at 6,836 yards from the tips for members. It would be more like a par 70 or even a par 69 for the PGA Tour pros.

It looks like the players will luck out in that the wind is expected to calm down on the Atlantic Coast of Florida and the skies are supposed to be clear. Rain on Thursday into Friday will soften up the greens a little bit before they firm up in the Saturday sun.

The worse the weather, the better the chances would have been for Fowler and Wolff. Fowler has a well-rounded game and is the best active player not to win a major. Wolff is a 21-year-old kid who won the 3M Open last year along with a NCAA National Championship, becoming just the third player in golf history to win a Natty and a PGA event in the same year.

The problem for Wolff here is that he is a monster off the tee, but rates average or below on approach, around the green, and in putting. Fowler is going to have to shoulder a lot of the load with the irons and wedges.

We know what Rory and DJ are capable of. They can both hit it a country mile off of the tee. DJ’s ball flight may be hard to contain on some of these holes if the wind picks up, but timid conditions are going to really improve his chances of hitting fairways and greens. Rory was arguably the hottest player on the planet before COVID-19 shut everything down. I’m not sure how much that matters now, but we know he’s a world-class talent that can play well anywhere. His dad is a member at Seminole Golf Club, so he’s probably seen his fair share of this course with his old man.

Ultimately, with the weather conditions looking tamer than they did with the long-range forecast, this is Rory and DJ’s event to lose. The -195 is the pick here, but I prefer to attack this event with the props instead.

Unlike a lot of longest drive competitions, the shot does not have to land in the fairway to be the winning distance. Rory heads into this event ranked second on the PGA Tour in average driving distance. Wolff is 21st. DJ is T28th. Rickie is T150th.

There could be some strategy in play here. Do you go for the big bomb or do you play it a little safer in hopes of winning $100,000 for the hole. Wolff should have the chance to haul off and hit one as far as he can because Rickie can dump something safely in the fairway and attempt to put together a good shot at eagle. Wolff may have the risk-reward option, depending on how his partner is playing.

Also, if the match is playing out as expected, Rory and DJ may be looking to protect a lead as opposed to hitting a big bopper as far as possible.

Strategically, Wolff at +400 may be worth a try.

The odds are the same for Hole #2, but that handicap is a lot different. I think Rory wins that one at +125.

Given that this course comes in well under 7,000 yards from the tips, somebody is going to get an eagle here. A -250 price implies a 71.43% chance somebody gets eagle or better. I don’t want to ever call something free money, but this sure seems like it. I know these guys are a little rusty, but I cannot see how nobody gets an eagle. These par 5s are easily reachable in two shots and somebody might drive a green on a par 4 if they are downwind.

Ball State Cardinals vs Northern Illinois Huskies Betting Pick & Prediction 2/20/24

Another UFC event is in the books as the top mixed martial arts promotion in the world surges forward with events at the empty VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Saturday May 16 brings our third UFC event of the week, headlined by a main event featuring Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris. UFC Fight Night 172 is the weakest of the three cards that we have had, but any event is a good event these days.

We’ll break down the 11 fights on the card with odds from <a href="http://bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/5dimes"><strong>5Dimes Sportsbook</strong></a> and we’ll keep bringing you these fight previews as long as we have them.

Action starts at 6 p.m. ET with -120 favorite <strong>Don’Tale Mayes</strong> against UFC debutant <strong>Rodrigo Nascimento</strong>. Nascimento is +100 after impressing on the Dana White Contender Series last July with a first-round submission victory against Michal Martinek. Nascimento is a perfect 7-0 with seven stoppage wins in his MMA career, which started back in 2012. Mayes got two tries on the Dana White Contender Series before getting a full contract. He lost his debut fight to Ciryl Gane, but he went nearly 15 minutes with the monstrous heavyweight before tapping out. He took some punishment in that fight, but kept on ticking. These are two decent heavyweight prospects in their late-20s, so this may be a springboard fight for both guys. It is a hard fight to gauge, but Gane is better than anybody Nascimento has fought and Mayes showed well there.

<strong>Cortney Casey</strong> is a -165 favorite against <strong>Mara Romero Borella</strong> in the women’s flyweight division. This one is heavily juiced on the over 2.5 at -445, so it would seem that Casey by decision is the most likely outcome. Casey has lost three of her last four fights. So has Borella, who last back on February 15 to Montana De La Rosa by decision. This is the first fight in 15 months for Casey, so I’m not sure I could lay the big number, but Borella hasn’t shown much upset potential.

<strong>Darren Elkins</strong> is -125 in what projects to be a competitive fight against <strong>Nate Landwehr</strong>. Landwehr is +105 in search of his first UFC win. He lost to Herbert Burns by first-round knockout in his UFC debut being the M-1 champion with two title defenses in the featherweight division. Elkins is hoping to celebrate his 36th birthday with a win. He hasn’t had one of those since January 14, 2018, with losses to Ryan Hall, Ricardo Lamas, and Alexander Volkanovski. He really seems to be on the downside of his career and Landwehr has a good chance at the mild upset here.

A couple more featherweights square off here in a battle between heavily-favored <strong>Mike Davis </strong>and <strong>Giga Chikadze</strong>. Davis is the -210 favorite with the over juiced at -175 on 2.5 rounds. David, who lost to Sadiq Yusuff on the Dana White Contender Series, stopped in Island Fights for a couple matches before getting a UFC contract starting with a fight against Gilbert Burns. He lost that one, but bounced back for his first career win with just 15 seconds left against Thomas Gifford. Chikadze was victorious over Jamall Emmers back at UFC 248 right before everything shut down. He’s won both of his UFC fights after a DWTNCS loss in 2018. Davis has a higher ceiling as a prospect, but this line is getting a little high given the bodies of work for both guys.

Former LFA champion <strong>Anthony Hernandez</strong> will get in the Octagon for his fourth career UFC fight in this scrap against <strong>Kevin Holland</strong>. Holland is the very mild favorite at -115 in another fight expected to require judges’ input. Interestingly enough, Holland’s most recent fight was a loss to Branden Allen. Allen is the man that Hernandez beat to win his LFA title in the middleweight division. That loss for Holland snapped a three-fight winning streak. Hernandez responded to his first career loss with an impressive win over Jun Yong Park. Holland is the more accomplished UFC fighter, so he gets the nod at -115 here in what should be one of the better fights of the card.

<strong>Miguel Baeza</strong> puts his undefeated 8-0 record on the line in this fight against UFC veteran <strong>Matt Brown</strong>. The welterweight matchup has Baeza as a -210 favorite and this is first non-heavyweight fight of the night expected to end prior to the final bell. This looks like a fight for Baeza to score a win over a name opponent with a wide audience looking on. Baeza knocked out Hector Aldana in his UFC debut and now draws a veteran of 40 fights that has only fought once in the last 2.5 years. Brown did beat Ben Saunders back in December to turn the clock back, but Baeza is the pick here.

<strong>Marlon Vera (+145) vs. Song Yadong (-165); Total: 2.5 (-115/-105)</strong>

The main card starts with a bang, as Marlon Vera puts his five-fight winning streak on the line against Song Yadong. Vera has won all five via stoppage, with three knockouts and two submissions. It has been an extremely impressive transformation for Vera, who lost back-to-back decisions to John Lineker and Douglas Silva de Andrade before this recent run. He isn’t getting much respect here in this line, but that could be to our benefit.

Song Yadong is 4-0-1 in his UFC career. He fought to a majority draw on December 7 against Cody Stamann. Stamann won the third round and was able to gain some favor with the judges as a result. Song has to avoid the ground game here of Vera. Stamann took the fight to the ground and managed to gain enough control to close the gap after a bad first round. We’ll have to wait and see how Song has adjusted, but I wouldn’t lay a big price like this after that last showing.

<strong>Pick: Marlon Vera</strong>

<strong>Eryk Anders (+140) vs. Krzysztof Jotko (-160); Total: 2.5 (-170/150)</strong>

It might be a little bit unfair to say that Eryk Anders has been a disappointment in the UFC, but he certainly was billed as much more than he became. Anders may be blooming late in his career after a split decision win against Gerald Meerschaert, but he just hasn’t consistently been good enough. We see that in this price against Krzysztof Jotko. Anders did finish 2019 on a high note, but lost three straight and four of five prior to that.

Of course, we can say the same about Krzysztof Jotko’s recent results as well. He beat Marc-Andre Barriault and Alen Amedovski to finish 2019 on a high note after a terrible run in 2017 and 2018. Neither one of these guys has consistently shown the ability to inflict enough damage to get a stoppage. Quite frankly, this fight could go either way once it gets in the hands of the judges. Statistically, these two guys are quite similar in terms of significant strikes and takedowns. The best play here is to lay the over 2.5 juice.

<strong>Dan Ige (+110) vs. Edson Barboza (-130); Total: 2.5 (-155/135)</strong>

Very quietly, Dan Ige has had a fine UFC career. He lost his debut fight to Julio Arce, but he’s won five straight since then. His win at UFC 247 over Mirsad Bektic was a war that ended in a split-decision win for Ige, but he got the job done. He’s coming back to take on Edson Barboza in this scrap. The 28-year-old Ige is stepping up in class here. Barboza has lost four of his last five fights, but those losses have been Paul Felder, Justin Gaethje, Kevin Lee, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This feels like a fight that UFC likes to mix in every now and then. They like fights to put guys over and they like fights to put guys back on the map. Barboza badly needs a win. Ige has an impressive run going, but you can certainly poke holes in the quality of competition. As a result, we see Barboza a -130 favorite here with that in mind. He’s fought many of the division’s best. Ige isn’t on that level.

<strong>Pick: Edson Barboza</strong>

<strong>Angela Hill (+165) vs. Claudia Gadelha (-190); Total: 2.5 (-335/275)</strong>

The price says it all here. Angela Hill is having a nice run. She has three straight wins and two of them came earlier in 2020 before everything shut down. She knocked out Hannah Cifers and beat Loma Lookboonmee. She takes on a strong customer here in Claudia Gadelha. The 31-year-old Gadelha has actually been something of a disappointment to this point in UFC. Since her title opportunity against Joanna Jedrzejczyk, she’s just 4-2 and only fought once last year.

Hill is a hard worker. She fights a lot. Gadelha hasn’t had that chance recently because of a major ankle injury and then a canceled fight because Alexa Grasso missed weight. The fact is that we haven’t seen Gadelha post-injury, which she suffered last October. I’m not sure what we get here. We know what Hill is and she probably isn’t good enough to beat Gadelha if the favorite is operating anywhere close to normal.

<strong>Pick: Claudia Gadelha</strong>

<strong>Alistair Overeem (+125) vs. Walt Harris (-145); Total: 1.5 (-145/125)</strong>

It will be an emotional return to the Octagon for Walt Harris. The -145 favorite in this fight tragically lost his stepdaughter Aniah last fall, just days before a scheduled match against Alistair Overeem was supposed to take place. Harris had already withdrawn from the fight, but he got the news that he nobody wanted to hear. This is his return to the main stage of UFC and it is sure to be a difficult day for him.

Similarly, it has to be tough for Overeem. The 39-year-old wants to win and needs a win after losing to Jair Rozenstruik, but these two guys have been around a while and it would be tough for Overeem to be too excited about beating up an opponent like Harris. We’ll have to see how both fighters handle this one. I’m not really sure where to begin with a fight like this. It will be a trying experience for both fighters.

The Eagles were +8.5 point underdogs heading into the game, and not only did they lose, but they also failed to cover the spread.</p> <p>Eastern Michigan trailed 35-22 at halftime and couldn't close the gap in the 2nd half, scoring just 22 points while allowing 29. The game ended with a total of 108 points, well under the O/U line of 135.5.</p><p>Eastern Michigan struggled offensively, scoring just 44 points in their last game. Christian Henry led the way with 17 points, shooting 42.9% from the field and from three-point range, hitting 3 of 7 from deep.</p> <p>Kaden Gumbs added 15 points, connecting on 5 of 9 shots, including 1 of 1 from beyond the arc. Tylan Pope contributed 12 points, making both of his three-point attempts, and Tyrel Morgan chipped in 11 points, hitting 1 of 2 from long range.</p><p>Eastern Michigan's defense held their opponent to 64 points on 41% shooting from the field. Alec Millender was 3/4 from three, finishing with 12 points and 6 assists.</p><p>Despite the IU Indy Jaguars' defensive efforts, they allowed 94 points in their previous game, with their opponents shooting 55% from the field, connecting on 33 of 59 attempts. The Jaguars struggled to contain two-point shots, where their opponents went 23/41, shooting 56%.</p> <p>From beyond the arc, the Jaguars allowed 10 threes on 18 attempts, a 55% shooting performance. They also sent their opponents to the free-throw line 22 times, where they converted 18 for 81%. On the boards, the Jaguars gave up 9 offensive rebounds.</p>
