Wake yourself up bright and early, or just don’t sleep at all, for this weekend’s UFC event because it will start bright and early in North America. UFC Fight Night 162 or UFC on ESPN+ 20 will be held in Singapore on October 26. It will be a 5:30 a.m. start in the Eastern Time Zone for the prelim card and the main card will go off at 8 a.m. At least you can make it a full day of sports with college football after that.

In any event, we’ll break down this card with a main event of Demian Maia vs. Ben Askren and 10 additional fights. We usually see a lot of local fighters on UFC cards, but that really isn’t the case this week.

Heavyweights Raphael Pessoa and Jeff Hughes get underway, with Hughes the -250 favorite at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Pessoa is coming off of his first career loss, which came at the hands of Ciryl Gane, who will be a rapidly rising prospect in the heavyweight division, if he isn’t already. Hughes, a Dana White Contender Series find, seems like a big favorite here, given that he’s 0-1 with a Could Not Continue in his official UFC fights. Pessoa is a live dog here.

In the strawweight division, Aleksandra Albu and Loma Lookboonmee make up one of the two women’s fights on the card. Lookboonme hails from Thailand and is 3-1 in her career. At the age of 21, it would seem like she’s giving up some experience to the 29-year-old Albu, but Albu only has four official MMA fights on her resume. She lost to Emily Whitmire earlier this year in her first fight in 18 months. She’s technically 2-1 in UFC. This is a really hard fight to call, with little to go on with each girl. Lookboonme is a -125 favorite.

Maurice Greene is +195 to Sergei Pavlovich’s 13-1 in another heavyweight fight. Pavlovich is giving up four inches to Greene, but his long limbs could serve him well as he still maintains a reach advantage. Greene, who was on cycle 28 of The Ultimate Fighter, lost in the semifinals, but impressed enough to get a contract. He’s won all three fights since then. Pavlovich beat Marcelo Golm earlier this year after a loss to Alistair Overeem to start his UFC career. It is best to look to the dog in fairly even heavyweight fights and that’s true of this one as well.

Undefeated Movsar Evloev is a -175 favorite against Enrique Barzola at 145 pounds. Barzola is 17-4-1 in his career and has fared well of late with wins in four of his last five. The 25-year-old Evloev had a nice win over Seungwoo Choi and is now stepping up in class a bit as he tries to keep his perfect 11-0 record in tact. He was a titleholder with several defenses in M-1 and looks like a good parlay piece here.

Alex White is +170 and Rafael Fiziev is -200 in this lightweight matchup at UFC on ESPN+ 20. The 31-year-old White has suffered all five career losses in UFC since joining the promotion in 2014. He is coming off of a nice win over Dan Moret to snap a two-fight winning streak. For Fiziev, this is his second career UFC fight after getting knocked out in 86 seconds my Magomed Mustafaev. He’s a big favorite to bounce back here, deservedly so, and looks like a good pairing with Evloev in the previous fight.

The main event of the prelim card is the only other women’s fight on the docket with Randa Markos against Ashley Yoder. Markos was originally scheduled to face Yan Xiaonan, but Yan pulled out of the fight about a month ago due to injury. Markos is -155 in this one as she looks to avoid falling to .500 in her pro career. She’s 2-2-1 in her last five fights, including a win over Angela Hill and a loss to Claudia Gadelha this year. Yoder lost three straight decisions before beating Amanda Cooper and Syuri Kondo in her last two fights. She’s on an upswing, but Markos is just the better all-around fighter.

Laureano Staropoli (+155) vs. Muslim Salikhov (-175)

The entire card is on ESPN+, but this is the first fight of the main card between Laureano Staropoli and Muslim Salikhov. This is the third fight in the UFC for Staropoli, as he has wins over Hector Aldana and Thiago Alves, both by unanimous decision. Staropoli is 9-1 in his career and has a little bit of a height advantage here. His reduced striking ability in his first two UFC fights could be the reason for the underdog line here, as it’s hard to fault most of what he’s done in his career. That being said, this is the first time he’s fought twice in a year since 2015.

Muslim Salikhov has showcased the punching and striking power in the UFC. Salikhov has back-to-back knockout wins after suffering his second career loss in his UFC debut. Salikhov’s most recent knockout, a first-round win over Nordine Taleb, came at UFC 242. That makes this a quick turnaround for him of less than two months, but he didn’t take any punishment in that Taleb fight.

Don’Tale Mayes (+300) vs. Ciryl Gane (-360)

Ciryl Gane is a big prospect in the heavyweight division and it’s extremely difficult to see him losing anytime soon until steps up in class a little bit more. Don’Tale Mayes was very impressive in his third try on the Dana White Contender Series. He’ll get his chance here to really prove himself, but the 27-year-old will likely be outgunned here by Gane.

Pick: Ciryl Gane

Frank Camacho (+140) vs. Beneil Dariush (-160)

Frank Camacho scored his first knockout win in nearly three years with his second-round victory over Nick Hein back in June. He’ll try to do the same here, but it won’t come easy against Beneil Dariush. Camacho had lost three of four fights before the matchup against Hein.

This line seems light with that in mind, doesn’t it? Maybe Dariush hasn’t been the fighter that everybody thought he’d be earlier in his career. He’s just 2-2-1 over his last five fights. But, he’s still an extremely talented fighter, just one that hasn’t lived up to his potential as of yet. Dariush is riding wins over Drew Dober and Thiago Moises, so he hasn’t beaten good fighters, but he’s gotten some confidence back and maybe that will be enough.

Pick: Beneil Dariush

Stevie Ray (+250) vs. Michael Johnson (-310)

Stevie Ray has dropped three of his last four fights and it looks like he is very likely to drop another one in this bout. He’s a +250 underdog in this matchup against Michael Johnson. Ray has lost to Leonardo Santos, Kajan Johnson, and Paul Felder, with a decision win over Jessin Ayari in his last few scraps. He hasn’t been impressive.

Johnson’s record is unimpressive, but the 33-year-old has lost to the likes of Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz in his career. He’s just 3-5 in his last eight fights, with losses to Dariush and those aforementioned losses to Gaethje and Diaz. This is a step down in class for him, as the line suggests. He’s an open parlay piece or something to pair with some of the lesser fighters on the undercard.

Pick: Michael Johnson

Demian Maia (+160) vs. Ben Askren (-185)

How does Ben Askren respond from his first career loss? The One Championship champion made his UFC debut and beat Robbie Lawler. Then he lost in five seconds to Jorge Masvidal. He’ll get a chance to get back on the right track against Demian Maia. Maia, who is 41 years old now, is fighting for the third time this year. He’s actually won both of his previous fights over Lyman Good and Anthony Martin. Before that, Maia was losing to quality fighters like Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, and Tyron Woodley.

It is interesting to see how Askren will do here as he gets another chance. Askren spent a lot of time being a champion in smaller promotions. He’s 1-1 in UFC and seems to have a big head about his ability and has been very selective with who he wants to fight. It seems he wants Maia, who had his time in the spotlight and is now on the downside of his career, despite the two wins. In all honesty, looking at Maia here does make some sense.

As I’ve mentioned, the Suns hit a 120-point mark in both outings at home. On the other side, the Mavericks needed eight triples from Dorian Finney-Smith to reach 110. Covering a 6-point spread won’t be an easy task at all, but give me the hosts and points, as I’m expecting the Suns to come out on top.&nbsp;

Cincinnati Bearcats vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets NCAA Basketball Betting Pick & Prediction 11/23/24

The Chicago White Sox have to be loving what they are seeing in Cleveland this week. The Indians lost a doubleheader to the Tigers on Wednesday and have lost the first two games of the series to the Houston Astros on Thursday and Friday. The Tribe are big underdogs again on Saturday as first place and playoff hopes simultaneously slip away.



Houston just keeps rolling on, scoring a bunch of runs on a daily basis with a lineup that nobody seems to be able to stop. The Indians will send Eli Morgan out there on July 3 to try and slow down the Astros and Cleveland hopes that the bats will wake up against Jake Odorizzi in one of just a small handful of evening first pitches on Saturday.



Houston is in the -165 range at <a href="https://www.bangthebook.com/sportsbooks/betonline/">BetOnline Sportsbook</a> with a total of 9.5 for this one.



<h2 id="h-houston-astros">Houston Astros</h2>



The Astros are just on another level right now. After another run line win on Friday, Houston sits at 50-33 with the second-best record in the American League. The Stros actually lost four in a row before taking on the Indians, including a series sweep at the hands of the Orioles in games at Minute Maid Park where Houston was a big favorite in all three. Baseball can sometimes be weird like that.



This is an Astros team that actually started the season 6-10 over the first 16 games and that was even with a big four-game sweep of Oakland to start the year. Overall, Houston is far and away the best offensive team in baseball. No team strikes out less than the Astros and they’ve used that barrage of balls in play to really punish opposing pitchers. In fact, the Astros have won 21 games by 5+ runs this season already.



Houston’s .345 wOBA is eight points better than any other team in the league and the 123 wRC+ that the Astros have posted is easily tops in MLB this season. It is a relentless offensive approach with contributions from everybody in the lineup.



If the Astros fixed the bullpen woes, there would be no question about the World Series favorite, let alone the favorite in the AL. Houston’s bullpen ranks in the bottom third of the league in FIP and has had some very large blow-ups. However, the team’s ERA is down into the 4.20s and things may be stabilizing a bit as the Trade Deadline nears.



Jake Odorizzi gets the start today with a 4.08 ERA and a 3.70 FIP. The basic numbers don’t really tell the whole story because Odorizzi was hurt in April and pitched poorly as a result. Since coming off of the IL on May29, Odorizzi has a 2.30 ERA with a 2.90 FIP in his last five starts and one relief appearance. He has not allowed a run in his last 14 innings.



<h2 id="h-cleveland-indians">Cleveland Indians</h2>



Eli Morgan has allowed a lot of runs, so the Indians are up against it yet again on Saturday. Morgan heads into this start with a 9.37 ERA and a 6.16 FIP in his four MLB starts. For those counting at home, that would be 17 runs in 16.1 innings of work. Morgan has picked it up in the strikeout department, but the Astros don’t really strike out much, so we’ll see how much that actually benefits him here.



Morgan has already allowed six homers in his MLB career. It looks to be a rather seasonable day in Cleveland on Saturday, but we have seen the park play a bit smaller now that the weather has warmed up. It seems to be a recipe for disaster for the Indians, who are still missing Shane Bieber, Zach Plesac, and Aaron Civale with injuries. Plesac made a rehab start for Double-A Akron within the last couple of days, but there are still no timetables for Bieber or Civale.



The Cleveland offense has been a bit better recently, but a lot of that had to do with facing bad pitching. The Indians played teams like the Orioles, Mariners, Cardinals, Tigers, and even repeated games against some of those squads over the last month or so worth of games. Facing a much better Houston team, the difference has been quite clear.



The Indians rank 24th in wOBA this season and have an on-base percentage below .300. The sole reason this team has even been in the hunt has been the pitching staff and, more specifically, the bullpen. It’s hard to get the bullpen to be at max capacity without a lead and the Indians don’t appear to be capable of many of those against good teams.



<h2 id="h-astros-vs-indians-free-pick">Astros vs. Indians Free Pick</h2>



The Astros have been lined in this range in each of the first two games of the series and have covered the run line in both of them. Why should we expect anything different here? The offense has yet another favorable matchup and the Indians offense draws Odorizzi, who doesn’t have as much upside as Framber Valdez or Lance McCullers, but is still pitching well.

Astros vs. Indians Free Pick & Prediction 07/03/21

It feels like it has been a year since the last UFC event.

Okay, okay, save the tomatoes for a good pasta sauce, not for throwing at me.

The first UFC event of 2020 is a big one. UFC 246 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas marks the return of Conor McGregor to the Octagon to face longtime fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. It is rare to see a pay-per-view card without a title fight, but there are a lot of former titleholders and contenders on the slate.

We look ahead to all 12 matchups with some more detailed breakdowns of the main card thanks to the help of the odds at 5Dimes Sportsbook for this UFC 246: McGregor vs. Cowboy event.

Things actually get started in the women’s flyweight division with a match between Sabina Mezo and JJ Aldrich. This is a coin flip to begin the evening with Aldrich now the slight betting favorite at -115. As usual, the over is heavily juiced at 2.5 and -380. Mazo is one up and one down in her UFC fights after being a champion in LFA. She won over Shana Dobson at UFC 241 and lost her debut fight to Maryna Moroz. Aldrich was knocked out by Maycee Barber back in March, but has four decision wins in her last five fights otherwise. Aldrich by decision looks about right here.

Next we head to the men’s bantamweight division for the only scrap at 135 pounds of the night between Brian Kelleher and Ode Osbourne. Osbourne, a UFC debutant, is the -140 favorite here. He was one of many Dana White Contender Series finds and his win over Armando Villarreal was enough to get him a spot on this Las Vegas card. Kelleher obviously has a massive experience edge, particularly at this level, but he’s coming off the shelf with more than a year’s worth of cage rust and hasn’t won in nearly two years with losses to John Lineker and Montel Jackson. This does look like a fight designed to give Osbourne a big debut win.

The final UFC Fight Pass fight comes in the light heavyweight division between Aleksa Camur and Justin Ledet. Ledet is more of a household name, but he is the short underdog at +100 here. Camur, you guessed it, another Dana White Contender Series find, is 5-0 in his young career. His win over Fabio Cherant got him a contract and now he’ll take on Ledet, who has lost consecutive fights to Aleksandr Rakic and Johnny Walker. This is a really important fight for Ledet, who has been in the UFC for several years, but doesn’t fight often and has a real chance of getting lost in the shuffle. With his back against the wall, it will be Ledet for me at even money.

We shift gears to ESPN and to the lightweight division with Drew Dober and Nasraq Haqparast. This is one of the biggest lines of the night with Haqparast at -330. The over is also juiced pretty heavily at -185 and 2.5 rounds. Dober hasn’t been bad of late, with four wins in his last five fights, including a very impressive first-round win over Polo Reyes following a rare loss to Beneil Dariush. Haqparast does have the higher ceiling and likely wins the fight, but it will be interesting to see if Dober stays aggressive. If he does, the under 2.5 could be a little more interesting, particularly with Haqparast off of a KO win of his own. I’d actually take that under shot since the side is sort of cost-prohibitive.

Let’s see how Askar Askarov comes off of the first non-win of his career. Askarov fought to a draw with Brandon Moreno back in September to snap his unblemished 10-0-0 record. That was Askarov’s UFC debut and it was clear that he struggled with the step up in class. That being said, it was also his first fight in 15 months. This turnaround is a little quicker to fight Tim Elliott. Back in October, Elliott came off of nearly 22 months away from the Octagon to lose to Deiveson Figueiredo. I would expect another loss here. We’re only paying -140 on Askarov and I think it’s a good bet and one of the best on the card.

Andre Fili is +115 to Sodiq Yusuff’s -135 in the featherweight division with a 2.5 total and a -120/100 split on the over/under. Yusuff is 3-0 in the UFC since catching Dana White’s eye on the Contender Series back in July 2018. He’s controlled all four of his fights with a lot of aggression and a high level of athleticism. Fili is a step up in class, as the line implies. This is one where I like the small dog. Fili’s got a better wrestling background than Yusuff and is more experienced as a grappler and on the ground. This price looks a little too high at +115.

The hottest prospect in the women’s flyweight division is Maycee Barber and this fight against Roxanne Modafferi isn’t expected to take any of that steam away. Barber is a -900 favorite to finish out the ESPN portion of the broadcast. It would be nice to see Barber get tested a little bit here by the savvy 37-year-old Modafferi. Barber’s striking power and young gas tank will be more than enough to get the win, but for Barber’s future, she could use something of a test here.

Anthony Pettis (+190) vs. Diego Ferreira (-230); Total: 2.5 (-160/140)

The second-most lopsided fight per the odds on the main card is this one between Anthony Pettis and Diego Ferreira. Pettis was on top of the world at UFC 181 with a win over Gilbert Melendez to beat somebody other than Benson Henderson in a title fight. Since then, Pettis has lost seven of his 11 fights, including his most recent appearance against Nate Diaz. The cut he suffered in training won’t be an issue this time around, but Pettis’s major fall from grace could continue to be.

The key difference between this fight and the Diaz fight is that Diaz was accomplished against fighters of Pettis’s ilk. Ferreira has an impressive 16-2 record, but this is easily the most accomplished fighter he has faced in his career. That makes this a huge fight and a huge opportunity for Ferreira. The amazing thing is that Ferreira is actually two years older than Pettis and their respective trajectories seem to be going in opposite directions.

I’ll look for Pettis to turn the clock back here. Ferreira needs to prove it to me against a guy like Pettis to lay more than $2.

Pick: Anthony Pettis

Alexa Grasso (-110) vs. Claudia Gadelha (-110); Total: 2.5 (-300/250)

The women are well-represented on the first card of 2020. Alexa Grasso and Claudia Gadelha will flip coins in the Octagon at -110 both ways in this one that will likely require the judges to pick a winner. Each of Gadelha’s last four fights have gone 15 minutes and she’s been on the wrong end of two of them to fall to 17-4. She looked good in her last fight, a unanimous decision win over Randa Markos, but her inconsistency is pretty frustrating as a handicapper.

The same can be said about Grasso, who came into the division with such hope and optimism, but she is 2-3 in her last five fights, including a submission loss to Tatiana Suarez. Grasso lost a majority decision to Carla Esparza last time out. Overall, these women just aren’t consistent enough to bet and that’s why we’re looking at -110 both ways.

Pick: Parlay Over 2.5 (-300) with something else like Askarov

Aleksei Oleinik (+115) vs. Maurice Greene (-135); Total: 1.5 (145/-165)

The time of reckoning just might be here for Aleksei Oleinik. He has lost his last two fights to Walt Harris and Alistair Overeem via first-round knockout. The 42-year-old just might not have it anymore. He’s giving up a good five inches of height to Maurice Greene in this one. Greene is nowhere near as accomplished as Oleinik, that much is true, particularly with the first-round loss to Sergei Pavlovich.

To me, there are two ways to play this fight. You can bet Oleinik by submission or Greene by knockout. Oleinik hasn’t won by knockout in over five years, but he does have four submission wins. His path to victory is to get Greene on the ground and get a sub. Greene has some sub wins at lower levels, but he won’t get one here. It’ll be a KO for him. With plus money on both sides when props show up, this is a minor arb opportunity and you can shade to whichever side you like more with a bigger bet.

Pick: Oleinik by sub OR Greene by KO

Raquel Pennington (+120) vs. Holly Holm (-140); Total: 2.5 (-560/430)

Gee, I wonder if this fight will go over 2.5 rounds? The -560 juice is one of the highest we have ever seen for this matchup between Raquel Pennington and Holly Holm. Pennington has been pretty quiet since her loss to Amanda Nunes in that great fight back at UFC 224. She had a hangover loss to Germaine de Randamie after that and then beat Irene Aldana by split decision. She isn’t exactly coming into this fight in the best form.

Then again, neither is Holm. Of course, her losses are Nunes, Cris Cyborg, and de Randamie in her last five fights, with wins over Bethe Correia and Megan Anderson. To be totally honest, I don’t want to put money on either one of these girls in this fight. They’ve both been inconsistent as can be and have struggled when stepping up. Is this a step up in class for either fighter? Can we call it that at this point in time? I’d have to lean Holm given that she’s a better striker and Pennington has very limited stoppage ability.

Pick: Holly Holm

Donald Cerrone (+275) vs. Conor McGregor (-335); Total: 1.5 (-125/105)

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone’s best days are very much in the past, as we all know. He’s still a fan favorite and he never shies away from a fight and you have to respect the hell out of that. Of course, it doesn’t mean you have to bet on him. Cerrone, now 36, has taken a lot of punishment in his career and that has been true of his last two fights against Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson, the latter of which was stopped by a doctor. Cerrone is a showman and one of the sport’s good guys. He won’t go down without a fight here.

He’s likely to go down here, but let’s see what Conor McGregor looks like in this fight. McGregor has one fight since November 12, 2016 and he lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor is a great unknown here. Once one of the most feared guys in the sport, now he is a question mark. He retired last year, only to return this year. He also hit a guy in the face in a Dublin bar, got arrested for robbery, got into a post-fight scuffle, and threw a dolly at a bus. The guy is a loose cannon to say the least.

What that means for this fight, and for Cerrone, in particular, is anybody’s guess. There will be a lot of people rooting for Cerrone, but I just don’t know if he has enough at this point.
