After posting a 44.5% eFG% on offense last season that ranked 347th in the nation, the Vikings are at 49.5% this season. That is still below the midpoint nationally, but ranking 185th in that department is preferable to ranking 347th.

Improvement in all areas has been a major key for the Vikings. They have gone from 248th in adjusted defensive efficiency to 110th. Of course there are a lot of asterisks that can be placed on this season, given the disparities in games played by teams, but the fact of the matter is that the Vikings are improved in a lot of key areas.

Since a thoroughly embarrassing 101-46 loss to Ohio in the second game of the season, the Vikings have a 67-61 loss to Ohio State and then eight straight wins in conference play, including a sweep of Northern Kentucky. That sweep definitely opened up some eyes, especially with the team’s resilience in the Saturday game that went to overtime.

Opponents are only shooting 30% from 3 against the Vikes to this point. Of course, they’ve also played the 170th-ranked schedule and all four teams they’ve beaten in conference play rank in the 230s or lower per Bart Torvik.

Wright State does not. The team that calls the Nutter Center home in Dayton, Ohio is a top-100 bunch per Torvik. This will be an enormous step up in class for the Vikings. Wright State is top-10 nationally in eFG% on defense. For a Cleveland State team that struggles to score as it is, that is a very tough assignment. The Raiders have an eFG% against of 42.9%.

That is a byproduct of holding opponents to 28.4% from 3 and 43.1% from 2. It is worth pointing out that Wright State has played the 239th schedule in the nation per Bart Torvik. One area of weakness for the Raiders is that they have not forced many turnovers, but they play a great base defense and they don’t allow teams to shoot the ball with much efficiency.

As we get deeper into the season, Wright State’s defensive numbers may fall off a bit, but the Horizon League is a really poor conference and there are not many teams that can force regression in those numbers. There just aren’t enough good shooting teams. Wright State did lose to Oakland and Youngstown State, neither of which has been lighting it up offensively.

After losing the first game to YSU, Wright State buttoned up. The Penguins had 1.061 points per possession in the first game. They had .788 points per possession in the second game.

There is one big key to this game for Wright State. The Raiders are top 40 in ORB%. They are perennially a good offensive rebounding team. That is one of Cleveland State’s huge weaknesses. That will be something to follow in this game and tomorrow’s game as well with the Horizon League playing those back-to-back sets.

Wright State’s conference performances have been uninspiring to a degree, which is something to be concerned about, but the conference’s best team is expected to get a test from Cleveland State here. This is an outstanding field for the WGC-Mexico Championship. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, who has won twice in this tournament since it moved to Mexico, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and several other top players in the Official World Golf Ranking.

But, Blessing is taking a look at some guys that are further down the board and have some really nice betting odds for this tournament. The Kings fired 40 shots on goal and had 13 giveaways.</p><p>Defensively, the Kings will be looking to bounce back after giving up three goals in the 3rd period of their previous game against the Blackhawks, including the game-tying goal with just 31 seconds left in regulation. Goalie Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves and posted a save percentage of 85.7%.</p><h3>Does Nashville Have What it Takes at Home?</h3><p>Nashville improved to 9-18-7 with a 5-2 win over the Avalanche. The Predators covered the puck line as -1.5 goal favorites, and the total of 7 goals went over the 6.5 goal line.</p> 

<p>After falling behind 1-0 in the second period, Nashville responded with five unanswered goals. All five of the Predators’ goals came from different players.</p><p>Nashville’s offense was held scoreless in the first period before Steven Stamkos netted his second goal of the season on a power play in the second. Colton Sissons followed with his first goal of the year. Roman Josi added his first goal of the season on another power play in the third period.</p> <p>Filip Forsberg scored his seventh goal of the season on an empty net, and Gustav Nyquist added his fourth, also on an empty net. The Predators took 25 shots on goal and recorded 15 giveaways.</p><p>Nashville's defense gave up the first goal 2:54 into the 2nd period and another at 17:43 in the 3rd, but they held strong otherwise, leading to a 5-2 win. Juuse Saros made 29 saves with a 93.5% save percentage, while the defense added 4 takeaways and 23 hits.</p>

Los Angeles Kings vs Nashville Predators Betting Pick & Prediction 12/21/24

The NFL has center stage today, but there is some college basketball on the betting board as well. Some good games take place in the early window, but with the amount of lead time available, our focus here will be on the later games.

That includes a couple of conference clashes with St. John’s vs. Georgetown and Stanford vs. USC. We’ll break ‘em both down, even though the only similarities are that they are conference games and will take place after dinnertime on the East Coast.

<h3><strong><u>St. John’s</u></strong><strong><u> Red Storm at Georgetown Hoyas (-1, 153.5)</u></strong></h3>
Tune into FS1 for this Big East tip at 7:30 p.m. with the Hoyas the ever-so-slight favorite at -1 with a total of 153.5 in this matchup. The Red Storm dropped their conference opener on Friday by a 77-68 score to Seton Hall. Now they’re further down the Atlantic seaboard to take on Georgetown in Washington D.C.

St. John’s picked a bad time to go 4-for-21 from 3 in that loss to Seton Hall. In the two losses for the Johnnies, they’ve had .899 and .944 points per possession. When the offense has been good, the wins have come, however BYU and Seton Hall are the two best teams St. John’s has played and they’ve lost both games.

Georgetown is also off to a 0-1 start in Big East play after a defeat at home against Villanova. The Hoyas did okay offensively against the Wildcats, but also allowed a season-worst 1.179 points per possession. Georgetown has played a couple of quality defensive games against UMBC and Coppin State and those have been the team’s only wins.

In all three defeats, the Hoyas allowed over 1.1 PPP. That seems like a reasonable ask of St. John’s, who has shot 53.6% from 2 and also 74.3% at the free throw line. Georgetown has shot the ball worse in their games. The Hoyas are also 305th in the nation in TO% on defense at 13.5%. They’ve also turned the ball over too much.

With extra possessions coming for St. John’s and a better offensive profile, they get the nod here at +1, but you might as well go ahead and take the +100 on the money line at BetOnline.
<h4><strong>Pick: St. John’s ML</strong></h4>
<h3><strong><u>Stanford at USC (-1, 136)</u></strong></h3>
It has taken some time, but Jerod Haase has really built up this Stanford program and may have his best team yet as the Cardinal open up Pac-12 play. Stanford scored a huge commitment from Ziaire Williams, who is off to a bit of a slow start, but the Cardinal can rely on seniors Oscar da Silva and Daejon Davis to pick up the load. The 6-foot-9 da Silva is off to a 27-for-42 start from the floor through four games, even though USC has played three high-quality opponents in Alabama, UNC, and Indiana.

Stanford is just 2-2, but that’s a byproduct of the schedule in a lot of ways. On the other hand, UNC’s defense showed major flaws this past week against Iowa and Stanford only managed .889 PPP in that losing effort.

USC has not played a challenging schedule to date. The Trojans lost to UConn, the best team that they’ve played, by a 61-58 score in a game that was played to only 60 possessions. USC was out of its element in that one and also shot just 3-of-19 from deep. Andy Enfield’s team has been poor at the free throw line, but has shot better than 56% on two-pointers.

The Trojans are third in 2P% on defense at just 36.2%. They’ve played Cal Baptist, Montana, BYU, UConn, and UC Irvine, a lot of teams that tilt more towards the defensive side, much like Stanford.

That’s why USC is the pick in this one. Stanford will have to find some offensive efficiency under challenging conditions. The Cardinal are only shooting 31% from deep and USC has been stingy inside the arc.

College Basketball Picks December 13: St. John's vs. Georgetown & Stanford vs. USC

<p>From Comerica Park in Detroit, we have the Nationals and Tigers facing off in an interleague matchup. First pitch is set for 6:40 PM ET, and MASN will be televising this one.</p>

<p>The forecast looks good in Detroit on Wednesday, with clear skies and temperatures in the low 80s. The over/under line is at 7.5 runs, and the Tigers are favored at -136 on the money line. Washington comes in with a record of 31-35, while the Tigers are 32-34.</p><h3>DETROIT TIGERS VS WASHINGTON NATIONALS BETTING PICK</h3><p>The Pick: Detroit Tigers Moneyline -136</p><p>This game will be played at Comerica Park at 6:40 ET on Wednesday, June 12th.</p><h3>HOW TO BET THE NATIONALS VS TIGERS:</h3><ul><li>We have the Tigers winning by a score of 5 to 4</li><li>However, if you're looking for a run line pick, we like the Nationals to cover</li><li>As for an over/under pick, we have this game finishing with 9 runs and like the over</li></ul><p>It was a low-scoring game in the most recent game of this Nationals vs Tigers series. Washington went into the matchup as slight underdogs at -104 and squeaked out a 5-4 win. The Nationals had a two-run 5th inning, and the Tigers could only muster one run in the 8th inning.</p>

<p>Detroit wasted a good outing from Kenta Maeda, as he gave up just one run in four innings of work for the Tigers. Andrew Chafin took the loss. Kyle Finnegan got the win out of the bullpen for the Nationals as Mitchell Parker only went 4 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and no earned runs.</p>

<p>Lane Thomas scored two runs and drove in two runs for the Nationals while going 1/2. Gio Urshela had a three-hit game for the Tigers. </p>
<h3>Nationals Records & Stats</h3><p>Washington is on a four-game winning streak, and they are 31-35 overall this season. The Nationals picked up a game on the Braves with their win yesterday and are now 15 games out of first place in the NL East. So far, they have gone 11-10 in divisional games.</p>

<p>At home, the Nationals are 13-17 this year, and they are an even 18-18 on the road. As the underdog, the Nationals have gone 28-32 this year, and they are 3-3 when favored. Washington has an overall series record of 8-12-1 this year.</p><p>The Nationals are 40-26 against the run line this season, including a 24-12 mark on the road. They have covered the run line in three straight road games and have covered in four straight games as an underdog. Washington's average run margin on the season is -0.3 runs per game.</p><p>Washington Nationals games have been trending under this season, with a combined run average of 8.3 runs per game. The over/under record for the Nationals is 30-33, and their games have averaged an over/under line of 8 runs. However, when the line is set at 7.5 runs, the record is 7-7. The over has hit in three straight games for the Nationals.</p><p>Washington is sending Jake Irvin to the mound today vs. the Tigers, and he will be looking to build off his last outing, where he didn't give up a run. In that start vs. the Braves, he went six innings and didn't give up a homer. Looking back at his last three outings, he has given up a total of four homers. Irvin's ERA for the season is 3.12, along with a record of 4-5. Out of his 13 starts, he has turned in eight quality starts and is averaging 7.68 strikeouts per nine innings. For the year, he has only allowed six homers.</p><p>Washington's offense has been led by CJ Abrams this season, as he is batting .245 and leads the team with 32 RBIs and 10 home runs, which is 12th best in the league. However, he is just 6/28 in his last seven games. Eddie Rosario is also struggling this season, hitting just .186. He does have seven homers but is just 23rd in the league in RBIs.</p>

<p>Lane Thomas and CJ Abrams both come into the game on five-game hitting streaks. Thomas is batting .278 over his last 10 games, while Abrams is just 6/28 in that stretch. As a team, the Nationals are 22nd in scoring at 4 runs per game and are just 21st in home runs.</p><h3>Tigers Records & Stats</h3><p>Detroit is 32-34 overall and trails the Guardians by 11.5 games in the AL Central. So far, they have gone 10-9 in AL Central games. The Tigers are looking to bounce back today, as they dropped the first game of the series vs. the Nationals. Overall, they are 9-8-4 in series this year.</p>

<p>At home, the Tigers are 15-18 this year compared to a 17-16 mark on the road. Detroit has gone 16-14 as the favorite and 16-20 as the underdog. Their overall record includes a 4-6 mark over their last 10 games.</p><p>When betting the run line on the Detroit Tigers this season, it has been more profitable to take them as the underdog. They are 22-14 against the run line in those games, compared to just 7-23 as the favorite. The Tigers have an overall run line record of 29-37, with an average run differential of -0.1 runs per game. They have been slightly better on the road, going 18-15 against the run line, compared to 11-22 at home.</p><p>When the Detroit Tigers play at home, the over has hit in 38 of their 64 games this season. The over/under line for today's game against the Washington Nationals is set at 7.5 runs, and the combined run average in Tigers games this season is 8.5 runs per game. The over has hit in 11 of the 19 games this season when the over/under line has been set at 7.5 runs. Detroit has hit the over in each of their last five games.</p><p>Right-hander Reese Olson is getting the start for the Tigers today as he faces the Nationals at home. So far this season, he has made 12 starts and has a record of 1-7. Olson's ERA is 3.43, and he has a WHIP of 1.20. In his 12 appearances, he has turned in five quality starts. Looking back at his last outing, Olson took the loss, giving up eight earned runs in four innings of work. Before that, he had only allowed one earned run in three straight starts. So far, he has allowed a total of three homers at home and has an ERA of 4.14 compared to 4.2 on the road.</p><p>Heading into today's game, the Tigers are averaging 4.2 runs per game, which is 19th in the league. They have been slightly better on the road, averaging 4.3 runs per game. Overall, the Tigers are 18th in home runs and have a team batting average of just .229. One positive for the team is that they have been able to avoid strikeouts, as their 8 strikeouts per game is 20th in the league.</p>

<p>Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter have been the Tigers' top power threats this season, with Greene leading the team with 11 homers and Carpenter right behind him with eight. Carpenter also has a team-high 29 RBIs and is batting .283. Greene has a batting average of .242 and an OBP of .339. Over his last six games, Gio Urshela has gone 7/23 and is currently on a three-game hitting streak.</p>

Washington Nationals vs Detroit Tigers Betting Pick & Prediction 6/12/24

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>TOURNAMENT PREVIEW – WGC MEXICO</strong></span>

This week the world's best players head down to Mexico City to compete in the World Golf Classic – Mexico. World Golf Classic events are unique in that the field is based upon the Official World Golf Rankings which rewards points for performance on all tours, weighted according to field strength. This means that, similar to Majors, the field is made up of players from the USA, Europe, Asia and beyond. The top 50 in the OWGR gain automatic entry and the field is completed by adding the highest ranked players from a two-year span on the Euro and PGA tour, the top 2 on the Japan, Australasian, Sunshine and Asian Tour Order of Merits in 2018 and is finished off by adding the top ranked Mexican player in the OWGR. This leaves us with an elite field of 70 and a no cut event giving each player 4 rounds to compete. Before breaking down the course, let's quickly recap last week.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>GENESIS OPEN RECAP</strong></span>

Adam Scott held on down the stretch to secure an outright victory for readers, the first of 2020. Riviera proved to be one of the best tests in golf and the tournament as a whole was outstanding from start to finish. The cream really rose to the top in the first edition of the Genesis with invitational status with guys like Rory, Kuchar, DJ and Matsuyama all making a run and falling short. The fast and firm conditions made Sunday some of the most compelling golf we will see all year and it really provides a blueprint for courses that are looking to challenge golfers with obstacles other than length. Full tournament head to heads featured here went 2-1 and 4-2 overall capping off an extremely profitable week. Onto Mexico!

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>COURSE PREVIEW</strong></span>

The WGC – Mexico is played at Club Du Golf Chapultepec in the heart of Mexico City. Players will not only have to deal with Montezuma’s Revenge but also by far the highest altitude of any course these guys will play all season. The course is a par 71 that plays at over 7300 yards but with the course sitting at 7500 feet above sea level the players have said it actually plays closer to 6600 yards with players seeing 10-20% more distance on shots depending on which club is used.

Off the tee players are faced with a tight, tree lined fairways. Many European players have commented that the course feels like a Spanish or Italian style track which could account for the fact that Euros have seen a good amount of success here in years past. The course plays relatively straight forward, without many doglegs and due to the altitude players will be taking less than driver off the tee and finding fairways is a premium due to the dense tree lines that will block any wayward tee shots. We are back with the rather rare Kikuya fairways and rough, although players should be used to it by now playing it 3 of the last 5 weeks. Remember, around the greens it can be nasty.

Speaking of the greens, Chapultepec features Poa, the last time we will see the devilish surface for quite some time. That means more variance with the shorter putts due to the natural bumpiness of the greens, but I will say it is not as drastic as what is found with the West Coast Poa. This will also be the case when we head to the Northeast and encounter Poa again later in the season. The greens are rather small by Tour standards and players have commented that the slight undulations can be difficult to read. While I don’t expect to see the putting difficulty we did last week at Riv, players will need to be solid from 5 feet and in to have a chance in Mexico.

The Par 5s here are very scoreable, which gives bombers a slight advantage as they will have even less into these important holes. With conditions looking the same as the last two years in Mexico, it is fair to expect the same favorable scoring positions with the winner coming in anywhere from 16 to 20 under. This means we will need to look for guys who put themselves in position to make a lot of birdies. It is worth noting that 13 of the last 16 WGC winners worldwide have come in at 25-1 or less and considering the hefty purse that comes with winning a WGC, that makes sense. With that said, let's get to The Plays!

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>THE PLAYS</strong></span>

<strong>Xander Schauffele +2200 –</strong> With 13 of 15 WGC winners coming from 25-1 or less, it would be hard to leave the no cut event king off the card. If you look past his yearly missed cut at Torrey (hometown, distractions, who knows but he has sucked there) it is hard to find someone more due that Xander to notch his 5th win on Tour. A 2nd place finish at the Tour Championship to end last year was followed by a playoff loss to Rory at the WGC – HSBC in China and another playoff loss at the Tournament of Champions to Thomas. There is likely nothing here but that is 2 more close calls at no cut events to go along with his 3 no cut event wins. Interesting! His form is solid, gaining 5.6 strokes ball striking last week at the Genesis including a 2 under 69 when the course played its most difficult on Sunday. He struck it well enough to be right there last week, he just couldn’t get any putts to fall, losing over a stroke on the greens over the 4 days. He gained 10 strokes ball striking here last year, suggesting altitude will be no issue. Most readers know that I am a sucker for a ball striking machine that just needs a few putts to fall to content and Xander absolutely fits that bill this week and comes in as my favorite under 25-1 play.

<strong>Bryson DeChambeau +3000 –</strong> A 5th last week at the Genesis was all I needed to see to secure Masters ticket at 45-1 and I will gladly back him here at slightly lower odds in a far inferior field. I love hearing stories of guys dedicating themselves to changes in their game during the off season, while I’m sure many do, few talk about it. Bryson was open about his desire to gain more distance off the tee and devoted himself to getting stronger to achieve that goal. The results are there as he was first in SG:OTT at WMPO and 3rd at Riv. My issue came from the fact he lost almost 5 Strokes on Approach at the relatively easy WMPO, but his striking performance at the Genesis suggests that is fixed as he returned to his old superb approach form, gaining 3.5 strokes in the category last week. While last year was undoubtedly disappointing, a 2nd at the weak fielded 3M being his best finish, he is less than 2 years removed from wins at Jack’s Tournament and the first and second legs of the 2018 FedEx Cup. A return to that form seems imminent and I will always error on the side of pedigree (he also has US Amateur and NCAA Individual titles) when attempting to determine if a player will bounce back to past form. In a tournament where his new found distance could separate him from the field, I look for DeChambeau to be in the hunt come Sunday.

<strong>Carlos Ortiz Top 20 +285 –</strong> The University of Texas product will undoubtedly be a fan favorite in his home country of Mexico and he is coming into his first ever WGC event playing some incredible golf. In the field being the highest ranked Mexican player without an automatic invite (he should be thanking Ancer for being so good), Ortiz has jumped between the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour since he turned pro in 2013 but is now in his second full season playing with the big boys and has put together some impressive performances early on. He has made 10 of his last 11 cuts including back to back top 5 performances to close out 2019. What I like about Ortiz is that his game is solid all around. He has averaged positive strokes gained in each of the big 4 categories over his last 5, 10 and 20 tournaments. It is rare you see that kind of consistency with anyone outside of the elite players. Although he is not from Mexico City, my guess is he has plenty of familiarity with the course and the altitude adjustment should be a piece of cake for the Mexican National. Remember, the field is small this week and where you usually have to best 140+ guys to reach the top 20, this week that number is cut in half. At almost 3/1 I will gladly back a player with his form and familiarity.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>THE MATCHUP</strong></span>

<strong>2u Kurt Kitayama -1.5 (+120) o Chez Reavie –</strong> Reavie is in the midst of one of the worst ball striking stretches of his entire career. Do not be fooled by his 10th last week at the Genesis, he did so behind an unsustainable 6 strokes gained around the greens (meaning he must have chipped in a few times) and 3 strokes gained putting. Striking wise he lost over a stroke ball striking, something he has done 3 out of 5 events in 2020, missing the cut in all 3. Kitayama is little known to regular PGA Tour followers, but Euro enthusiasts are well aware of Kurt’s game. The UNLV product qualified for the 2019 Euro Tour and became the fastest player in history to record two Euro Tour wins, collecting his 2nd in just his 11th start. A T6 late last month in Dubai shows he has picked up right where he left off in 2019 where he fell just shy of winning Euro Tour Rookie of the Year. Kitayama can absolutely move it, ranking 6th in driving distance on on the Euro Tour last year and should benefit greatly from the high altitude. Kitayama is likely a name you should get accustomed to, as his goal is to play full time Stateside but for now we can get him at a discount vs an out of form Reavie.

This season, the Dragons have been favored in 11 games, going 8-3 in those matchups.</p>

<p>So far, Drexel has an overall record of 11-6, including a 4-0 mark in Coastal Athletic Association games. The team's average scoring margin on the road this season is +.3, and they have gone 5-5 away from home.</p><p>As the favorite, Drexel has gone 7-4 against the spread this season. Over their last 10 games as the favorite, the Dragons are 7-3 vs. the spread. On the road, Drexel has a 4-6 ATS mark this year and they are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.</p><p>So far this season, Drexel's over/under record is 5-10-1. The average over/under line in their games is 135 and the average scoring total is 134.1. Today's over/under line of 139.5 is higher than the average over/under line in their games. Currently, their last three games have an over/under record of 1-2 and their last five games have an over/under record of 3-2.</p><p>Against North Carolina A&T, the Drexel had a tough time putting up points compared to their season average of 72.8 points per game.
