Updated 2019-20 NHL Stanley Cup Odds

The early season struggles of the Tampa Bay Lightning have been forgiven and are a thing of the past, as the Lightning are solid favorites to win the 2019-20 Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay trails both Washington and Boston in points, and will have a tough time catching either one, but as Tampa Bay proved last season, winning the President’s Trophy doesn’t really mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.
The Washington Capitals are No. 2 in the odds and are leading the Metropolitan Division, with Boston at No. 3. The Bruins are leading the Atlantic and are a strange team in that they are absolutely brutal in the shootout, going 0-7 so far and having 12 overtime losses altogether. With no shootout in the playoffs, the Bruins may fare better in the postseason and can’t be discarded.
The St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche are tied for having the lowest odds among the Western Conference teams. Those two teams are at least four points clear of the remaining Western teams and making the playoffs is going to be a dogfight. The Pacific Division has five teams within a point at the top of the division standings.
There is still four weeks remaining before the NHL trade deadline and teams in the mix may be willing to go all in, so there is most likely going to be some movement in the odds depending on which teams are active in the next four weeks.
Among the teams currently on the outside looking in, the Toronto Maple Leafs are probably the most likely to make it from the East, while Nashville may make it from the West, due to having played fewer games than the teams a couple of points in front of them.
There are worse bets than the Tampa Bay Lightning, as it isn’t often that you’ll find a favorite at +700 and when focused, the Lightning are the best team in the league.
We’ll look at the odds as of Jan. 26 at BetOnline win the 2019-20 Stanley Cup.
