Ohio Derby Preview
The Ohio Derby is coming to Thistledown Racino this weekend and it’s a massive horse race for Grade 3 horses. While the Triple Crown races are now over, the mid-major Derby series is just now getting going.
There are going to be some great horses in this race, including Catching Freedom, a horse that ran well in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. There are other horses in this field that competed in Triple Crown events, and that will lead to an excellent battle.
Here is a look at some of the odds to keep in mind for this race, and the horse that will come away with a win.

A Few Favorites
Catching Freedom is the clear favorite to win the race this weekend, and trainer Brad Cox has had plenty of success in the past. This horse comes into the race at +180, and that still comes with some value if you want to go that route.
While Catching Freedom was unable to win one of the Triple Crown races, that horse has already won the Louisiana Derby this year. Catching Freedom is a horse that has been able to close in a hurry, and it should be able to stay up with the pack in this event.
Copper Tax is seen as the biggest challenger to Catching Freedom with odds set at +350 to win the Ohio Derby. This horse won at Delaware Park and Laurel Park a year ago, and that should allow it to be in the mix here.
Gould’s Gold is another horse to watch at the Ohio Derby as it currently has betting odds set at +500 to come away with the win. This horse did not compete in the Preakness Stakes, but it did have a good showing that weekend at the Sir Barton.
Uncle Heavy is the fourth horse that you could consider a favorite this weekend, and this horse has been tested on the biggest stage. Uncle Heavy finished in sixth place at the Preakness Stakes, but it didn’t have a ton of time to train ahead of that race.
The betting odds really start to fall off after these four horses, but that doesn’t mean that another horse can’t get the job done. It’s been a strange year in the sport of horse racing as there have already been a number of big upsets this year.
Catching Freedom Gets it Done
If you are someone that likes to bet on upsets in horse racing events then this has been the year for you. While that hasn’t always happened in every race this year, that has felt like something that has happened more often than not.
That trend is going to change this weekend though as it’s just too hard to see another horse challenge Catching Freedom and beat him. That horse has been running well all year long, and the betting odds are set this way for a reason.
It won’t lead to a huge payout, but betting on Catching Freedom to win the Ohio Derby is a bet that you can’t pass up.
