The No. 6 Louisville Cardinals are in a tie with Connecticut among the top of the Big East standings after both Marquette and Pittsburgh lost earlier in the week. The Cardinals will need to win their last 3 games and need the Huskies to have some trouble because Connecticut would win the tie breaker due to their head to head win over the Cardinals earlier this season. That may not be much to ask for considering Connecticut still has another match-up with Pittsburgh left on the schedule. Still Louisville must handle their own business as they host a tough Marquette team on Sunday. Marquette could help their own cause and open up a 4 way tie if they could pull of the win over Louisville and get some help from Connecticut as well.

Friday night’s Big East contest on ESPN 2 between Connecticut and Louisville should be entertaining. The Cardinals are led by senior quarterback Hunter Cantwell and senior defensive tackle Earl Heyman. The Huskies are unbeaten on the season while the Cardinals are 2-1 after last week’s 38-29 win over Kansas State. Redshirt freshman Victor Anderson had 176 yards and three touchdowns for the Cardinals in the win.

Mid-week college football is back as Kansas State visits Louisville on Wednesday in a game to be televised on ESPN 2. This is the first mid-week game for Kansas State since 1994. This will be the second-ever meeting between these two schools and the first since 2006 when the Cardinals won at Kansas State 23-6.
An exciting matchup should be in the offing on Sunday as Louisville hosts Kentucky in the battle for the Governor’s Cup. Kentucky was 8-5 last season but suffered a number of off-season losses and is looking at a rebuilding season. Louisville slipped to 6-6 last season and missed out on a bowl game for the first time in more than 10 years. Second year head coach Steve Kragthorpe is looking for better things this season.
